  • I don't like this song...I LOVE IT!!!!!!;))

  • Most underrated songs of all time- lyrical genius over musical accompaniment perfection to meet that genius.... Not so eloquent- but hard to say it better than that...

  • How can anyone not like this song?

  • @iplaytehdrums Thanks for the correction. Its "FATE".

Echo and The Bunnymen are one of the Best Bands.

Bring On The Dancing Horses are one of the best songs of all time.

  • Muito foda!

  • saw Echo last night in concert and Ian sounded amazing! :)

  • Roy (Orbison) & the Bunnymen B-)

  • Lindo !!!!

    Magenifico !!!!

    Perfecrt !!

    ....

  • Fades, Up against your will. You give yourself to him. . him . .

    That's echo and The Bunnymen.

    Great band!

  • @rcartoj Sorry, but i think you will find it's "Fate, up against your will" (not "fades, Up against your will")

  • and this is why you shouldnt smoke

  • @davexpert .... or do Cocaine!

  • poor ian, your angelic voice! bah to cigarettes!

  • memorables abria que congelarlos

  • Que pena Ian como te fregaste la voz!!

  • Is that really Ian? I'm thinking not.

  • my cheeky wee hamsters..what a didck.who thinks ts twat is funny

  • @stankler

This guy is probably the best late night talk show hosts on American TV. You'd have to follow him for a while to appreciate those kind of lines. Well worth it.

  • this song is great ,this song is my favorite new wave by agie

  • Such a great song. That 12-string haunts.

  • Still sounds better than the overproduced shit of today

  • its unfortunate that hes lost his voice from the 80s

  • @mssphysics I was just thinking that lol

  • smoking has done a number on ians vocals

  • Still love listening to Ian but all the years of smoking are taking a toll!

  • AWESOME!!!!

I bought this song as an import LP in 1984.

  • @bagueley college radio stations played this. it wasn't easily available.

  • Big time awesome

  • A song that never ages. :)

  • i love that 12-string tear-drop guitar.

  • Great perfomance! Belíssima composição! Mágica! Requinte no Rock!

  • Grande performance! Uma das maiores bandas de todos os tempos. Contra a falta de criatividade e harmonia das bandas da atualidade. Perfeita!

  • Excellent vers of this song. Voice may be gone, but still an outstanding jam. 12 string rocks.

  • never heard of them besides people are strange.

    but I'm excited for Coachellah:]

  • @PhantomWarlock people are strange is by the doors not them......

  • @hoshmaster123 hahaha I never said it was by them. but they do a badass cover of it that gets alot of radioplay

  • That guitar solo at 2.20 is incredible

  • haunting 12-string

  • Saw them in Leeds last night aswell.

First time at a Bunnymen concert. Wont be the last.

Cracking band and Mac was brilliant. I was on the front row for it. Top drawer!!

  • Saw them last night in Leeds.. lucky me!! And his voice was well up to it!

  • LOVE IT!!!!! Thanks for posting. I've been a Bunnymen fan since 1982 and I must say...they are still one of my favorites of all times!!

  • Brilliant. Ian McCulloch's voice superb. Would be odd if he sang with the same voice he had at 20. Has to mature and change - it's called development/growth.

  • fue perfecta la presentasion

  • I perfer his 80s voice but he is not bad now, just diffrent. Age does that, look at Manson. I love him but his voice now is just not like it use to be. That happens over 20-30 years, duh.

  • Girl, you listen to My Chemical Romance

    Shut Up !

  • freakin' A!

    wooo!!

Ian McCulloch and Will Sargeant is still having that 80's fab feel in them!

  • O cara esta judiado ... sem voz alguma ... coitado

  • karaoke backup band

  • "Fred Durst Guitar Solo"

    Gawd

    Not another idiot

  • well, if you watch the video it's funny because his guitar solo is so bad.

  • Fair enough.. lol

    But the other manstream cack

  • haha yup. just checked it...far too much Panic at the disco, chemical romance, amy winehouse and foo fighters...ughhh

  • A lot of times, what makes a song badass is not what you put into it, but what you leave out. This is a very simple song to play, but it's perfect just the way it is. Some monster riff in the middle would muck it up.

  • @vatoencabronado I think you may have responded to the wrong person ?

  • pobresito...

  • Ian McCulloch's vocal style allows for "aging" (unlike, say, Morrissey's smoothness). I just don't see the "this guy sounds horrible" take on this performance. His voice has always had a certain distressed tone to it. I think he sounds marvelous here.

  • @KolyaKrasotkin

thank you for pointing this out - ian's voice as "different" as it may sound - still sounds incredible. like you, i dont think he could ever sound horrible. yes, his tone and depth is different from what we've become accustomed to from the early days of echo - but this "aged" voice adds a personable feel to this timeless romantic/tragic love song.

  • @johnnyalonso1

    I can't agree more.

  • i love to listen to it thou.very natural. no need to have a perfect voice.

  • Great song - great version - classic stuff.

  • just asking is he blind with that glasses lool i know its stupid

  • man this guy sounds terrible... I love this song, though

  • I do agree with you ...

  • you have good taste. filipinos feel the music, peace.

  • well , okay, easy, after all pete the orignal drummer died in a motorcycle accident many years ago, and Les wont play with them apparently

  • And their keyboardist, Jake Brockman, sadly suffered the same fate only a month ago.

  • la la la through the thick and thin

  • Comment removed

  • I love this band, who trip!

  • times a mother fucker eh his voice sucks

  • this isn't echo and the bunnymen...just ian and will with a buncha hipster studio hacks. and yes, his voice sucks.

  • i agree

  • @earinsound is Will the teardrop guitarist?

  • i love this band and a-ha

  • his voice would sound like this anyway, cant sound young forever. I like it like this anyway adds a bit of.... yeah

  • wow, what smoking can do to a voice huh?

  • Echo and the Bunnymen played Houston around this time. They come every few years. Great shows everytime.

  • Yes I agree, His voice sounds somewhat groggy. Still an UNBELIEVABLE BAND and great song....

  • Yeahhhhhhh

    ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!

  • they use the same quitar from 1984

  • he sounds very different now, but he's still a stellar feller.

  • Awesome song! Some of you should check out the group call BAT FOR LASHES, the song call " Daniel", it is an awesome song. They were on David Letterman last week.

  • his voice is'nt the same but it still sound great

  • My first love...Echo...Ian...Mac! He looks so good and sounds the same as ever.

  • Yeah they are pushing 50... not too shabby.

  • They're great. Never saw them but wish I could. They look better then when they were kids.

  • i regret not having seen them back in the 80's... saw all the "others" like the banshees, the cure, bauhaus, the chameleons, new order, killing joke, the au pairs, etc etc etc... the bunnymen are still geat

  • I've been a huge fan of The Bunnymen since the 80's. Still consider them one of the best bands ever. Don't expect Ian to wail the way he did back in earlier days. Age and years of smoking will have an affect on anyone's voice, but his raspy tone works quite well with their "matured" musical style. Loved Siberia and I look forward to their next release.

  • Having seen this video, I was apprehensive before going to the Ocean Rain concert in New York this past summer. Fortunately, Mac sounded good during that concert. He must've gone through a bad stretch with his voice in 2006.

  • his voice is gone, what did he do to himself? I just can't listen to or bother with anything new from them since OR.

  • gone for sure. the band still sounds great though.

  • .. uh, Yes... the voice here is disturbing to me right now. I am abit stunned. For a moment, I thought that they'd placed someone else instead to sing. My God, do you remember what he could do with that thing? Remember? The vaulting highs and sustained, mountainous caves of wonder that came out of that hole. Without amplification, he vibrated the balconies in so many venues. We were lucky to have shared those moments. They happened, and all we have are memories I guess. Not so long ago.

  • sorry but somebody knows the name of the instrument played in the intro??...thank you

  • the twelve string guitar?

  • yes the string number is the same but i think is another kind of instrument....but thank you for the help:)

  • No, it's really just a simple 12 strings guitar. The sound is typical for this guitarist

  • it's a simple 12 strings guitar

  • I think it's a VOX MARK XII....

  • Oh god...how sad...what the hell what happened to his voice?? and it aint just the years that do this - he ain't that old after all. There are plenty of his peers still around whose voices have held up better. I think chain smoking and drinking and bad living have probably taken a significant toll. Sooo sad. McCulloch's voice was a wonder in its prime.

  • It's not that bad, I think it's just a bad mix. His voice sounds really distant, it could use some compression.

  • exactly what i was thinking...remember how clear it used to be..almost haunting..now he just sounds nasely with just a hint of the old magic. All of the mid to high notes are missing...He used to be able to sing and harmonise at the same time. damn those cigs and booz anyway. Forever the killer of our heros.

  • I love love love this band but his voice has really deteriorated!

  • through the thick and thin.always the bunnymen.

  • this wouldve been beyond amazing; to see ECHO!!! <3 && sexy craig ferguson(!?)...ohmahgosh...*moans*...haha

  • I've noticed that for some reason this song sounds kind of similar to "Wicked Game"

  • OK A) This sounds freakin' awesome. I don't give a shit what the naysayers asy about Mac's voice not being the same. Things change. I think it great! B) What the hell is it with aging musicians and their damn sunglasses? Like if we don't see your eyes we can't tell how old you are? I sure miss the immediacy and connection of being able to see people's eyes when they perform.

  • I think everyone's eyes grow more sensitive to light as they get older.

  • Seen The Bunnymen 2 weeks ago @ Liverpool Echo arena . Fantastic 1 hour set then back on and done Ocean Rain Album with London Met Orchestra , cant describe how good they were , well in lads .

  • Fantastic! Simply fantastic!!!

  • I think he looks healthy for the first time, definatley not fat, he's just actually eating now rather than living on coffee and cigs and booze

  • i think he looks flippin' great for his age. sounds even better

  • MAC is the fucking man, Robert Smith is fat ass looking mental patient ( on his best day )

  • Oh, shut up. Robert Smith is the most beautiful man ever walked a pair of shoes. If not on the outside, these days, on the inside! People saying stuff like that can't see he's beuty. Probably. It must be so. Yeah.

  • its called middle age spread,I have some for sale,Fuck it you can have it Ha,

mega band.Better than the Beatles but that's cos i have only seen the bunnymen/Ian n Co.

    cool members o this day

  • better than the beatles?

    funny guy...

  • schmuck

  • he is not fat, you wanna see fat look at robert smith he is fat

  • I know, he looks way better than R. Smith.

  • robert smith was always a bit chubby though.

  • ice cream pain

  • viva echo! playing tonight @ radio city-nyc...celebrating 25 years of a masterpiece: Ocean Rain!!!

  • what a vibe

  • He sort of sounds like Bob Dylan here (don't get me wrong, I love the Bunnymen).

  • Traurig die Helden meiner Jugend so zu sehen.

Echo an the Bunnymen waren zu ihrer Zeit state of the art und haben unser damaliges Lebensgefühl getroffen. Haben sie wirklich so ein Retro-Gedöns nötig?!

  • I perfer is voice in the 80s however he is still pretty good. A few notes he couldn't hit but big flippin deal. He is 20 years older, do you know what 20 years does? A whole freaking lot. As for him being fat he is not fat. He has a double chin but he is not fat. He looks to have actually maintained better than most men his age.

  • his voice got so high! it's like a mix. theres a lot of "EEEEE" comin from him, does he still sound like that today?

  • Actually, I think they sound better since they got back together in the late 90's. Ian's voice has character now. Growing up in the 80's I never liked bands like this because the singers all sounded drone (except for PiL), now they sound great. The late 90's Echo beats the 80's hands down.

  • Maybe he just wasn't revved up. His voice sounds amazing on the song "Stormy Weather" from Siberia CD.

  • I feel your pain raincrowd lol and I agree the cure and echo & the bunnymen are both awsome and fat lol and now im working on it too!

  • man... all the lead singers of my favorite bands when i was a kid got reeeeeeally really fat - the cure, echo and the bunnymen, new order, etc. even I am getting fat. damn!

  • really fat? for fucks sake, this guy is far from reaaalllllly fat. you assholes should stop being so superfluous.

  • @raincrowd - Monosodium glutimate will do that to you (fatten you up). Thanks to our horrendous food industry that stuff is in everything. In the USA they they let food companies get away will calling it "natural flavoring" (which could also be anything else just about).

  • Spelling correction: monosodium glutamate (also known as MSG, autolyzed yeast , hydrolyzed proteins, and already mentioned, "natural flavor etc, etc).

See: blessedquietness (dot) com (slash) Journal (slash) theworld (slash) msg.htm

  • Don't know what some of you are all moaning about, he still sounds great to me, his voice hasn't changed that much!

  • Sad live version of a great song

  • Oh if only these great singers could hold onto their voices as they grow older.

  • They don't have to.

As long as people are paying money to see live shows muscioans will parade around in to their 60's-70's! I.E. Stones, Eagles, Clapton etc.

  • Great song but smoking and aging does do a toll on the voice. But great posting.

  • true, but sometimes it sounds better! Look at leonard cohen!

  • Agreed. Bono and Ian BOTH need to stop smoking.

  • Thanks for posting!!

  • muda foka - you are insane....get the dvd live...and you will see the talent has not abated in any way.....ian's just too fu*%)ing coo....

  • His voice definitely is a lot weaker than it used to be. Maybe a consequence of getting older? Still good stuff.

  • His voice has changed. tsk, tsk, tsk. But still a great song.

  • He's voice sounds very weak, probably due to smoking, excessive drinking and too little sleep. I've seen them twice, and both times I was dissapointed. Pity because I really love their music.

  • Awesome! Don't fuck with EEEEEEN. Everyone's voice changes over time, because vocal cords are just connective tissues like ligaments and tendons which are prone to deterioration over time. Rock n roll isn't about pretty singing, though, it's about emotion, and they still have it.

  • Tha souds good to me kids. The guy is a little older don't forget. Perhaps he's mid Sinatra

  • sounds good to me!

  • His voice doesn't sound AS good as it did, but come on it's really not that bad.

  • They're almost like a new band now. The absence of Pete and Les is the most obvious change. I like how Ian's voice has transformed to crooning style. It kind of suits their new easy listening psudo-psychedelic direction. They've aged well...

  • his voice... why.. why...

  • Its painfull to hear his voice now.

  • your right ..a bit painful. but live, like in a concert he is amazing to be honest. i mean, i saw them 3 times in the last 7 years and he sounds great.

  • ur d best!

  • Amazing performance! He's a smoker so his voice is a bit raspy, but you gotta give it to him, he didn't miss a note!

  • everones voice changes over time, even if its slightly. tho i gather this is them on an off day

''partizanartist'' - did his voice sound like it did back in the 80's?

  • Jock Goth Rox!

  • hi to all the wavers out there...one of my favorite song!

  • i think its cool

if his voice sounded the same then whats the point?

i like how it sounds here too

  • this song rocks so much, especially the beginning it holds this mystical feel to it.

  • Its Mac for fucks sake...his voice is still Macs voice....to all you doubters JUST LISTEN

  • good point. i'm not a doubter and did listen, and Ian's voice IS different. sort of Dylan meets grunge ??

of course i listened to echo live on the tube before this version and man what a BIG differece.

thanks for sticking up for him though.

  • saw them 2 months ago in the cavern.nothing wrong with his voice that night.going to see them tomorrow night and sunday night in liverpool cant wait going to be gig of the year fact.

  • the cavern! wow. my bands played there like 3 times now. not boasting but i didnt think any band so important to me had ever played on the same stage. know what i mean? ah possibly not.

  • The cigs have surely taken a toll on Ian's pipes over the years but this Bunnymen classic still sounds fantastic. Mac always had a difficult time hitting high notes live anyways. The grind of touring limits a tenor that way as Ian said once" I wish I could trade Thom Yorke some lows for his highs".

  • well said hutson...

  • I think its all the fags thats made his voice decline. I'm having second thoughts about ordering my tickets for their albert hall show now.

  • What happened to Mac? his voice was unique, but now he sounds like he had a sandpaper in his throat

  • It's a shame - Mac, in the 80's, sang better than anyone...now, he's just a shadow of his former self.

  • Go out and buy Flowers and Evergreen then listen to Supermellowman. Then we'll have a serious conversation about how good his voice is. or better yet. Go and see them, in liverpool on december the 8th or 9th. You'll be blown away, best live band ive ever heard

  • You'll notice now Mac doesnt write songs like 'killing moon' because hes moved away from that style of writing. Theres a massive difference between Heaven up here and flowers. Whoever said this is a result of being past your prime, you know nothing about good music.

  • The thing is people are so concerned with wether or not he can sing the killing moon now they dont stop to think if he needs to. All the best voices are like this. I suggest any of you look up Tom waits, outstanding singer - voice like a chainsaw.

  • Theres nothing wrong with his voice.

Ive seen em live, what 13-14 times now, Blown away every time. The thing is everyone remembers Mac wailing in a promise and the killing moon and think yeah his voice isnt as good anymore, When thats not the case, his voice now is far better. It has such texture and character.. easily on a par with Sinatra.

  • My bad. Only two original members.

  • The band plays great, his voice is just shot. Same deal with The Pixies reunion. Original lineup, awesome songs, but these guys can't sound the same as when they were 23... a shame.

  • frank black never had a great vioce. he sounds the same now as he did in the 80's

  • Better a has been struggle than another never will be lip synching

  • I loved this song but I agree with the others his voice is gone, its a shame he can't be like Morrissey and still sing,

  • Sad. Will and Mac have gained the excess middle-age pounds, and Ian has lost his vocal glory. The band sounds good and is some sort of consolation, though this is a good example of what happens when you push past your prime.
