its 2 in the morning right now..and i dont even feel tired cause watching this video makes me wonder just how tired are u after doing all this??????????????so much cutting,cleaning,ect 0_o
Tired. Not that much. It took me several months to finish it. Having too much free time back then resulted in much gunplaing and enough sleed not to get tired XD
Well. Actually I do think of my Building [insert kits name] series as tutorials how to modify and finish gunpla.
Pla plate are polystyrene sheet you buy at a hobby shop (I guess it's even a brand of Tamiya). The thing I used was from a plastic card (health insurance card or telephone card...doesn't matter). Same material but for free. You could call that Pla Plate...
Neat techniques! I couldn't exactly tell everything you were doing and what for, but I could tell you were doing a pretty nice job of it! xD So, you're saying with just that 3M sponge file thing, you can give the surfaces of any model a matte finish? Nice trick! I'll look into it. Just one question; does using that sponge file mess with panel lines?
That's basically my conclusion. If you have sandpaper in the 700-900 grid region you can try it out on a sprue. Sand it and the shine is gone. The sponge is just easier to use because it adjusts itself to the surface and you can handle it better.
I rechecked the package of the sponge file: It's 320-600 grid. A don't go over highly detailed areas with a new one and start at flat ones. The sanding effect lovers after a while and then sand the highly detailed and panel lined areas.
Sorry for that strange typing of mine. I meant: "Don't go over highly detailed areas with a fresh one and start at even areas. The sanding effect lowers after a while. Then sand the highly detailed and panel lined areas."
Addition:
I can't remember sanding away panel lines with the sponge but edges get rounded very fast if you aren't cautious and don't use an old sponge.
Panel lines and in bend details are somewhat highlighted by this technique because the sponge doesn't reach that regions ^^
question:after the permanent marker test,what if u end up making more grooves?
jayko657 11 months ago
@jayko657
That has to be prevented by moving from low to high grid sandpaper.

I got 3 question's
1:what is that thing you used for Char's zaku's eye?
2: did you paint the zaku?
3: where did you get the sanding spounge? I cant find any...anywhere!

@D3VENSTATION
I got three answers:
1. The eye is a lens of an old CD-Rom drive XD
2. I only painted details after sanding the whole kit to remove the plastic's shine
3. I got it from hlj. search for "sponge file"
Cheers!

wat the difference with 500 and 1000 grid and when to use them does they have different purpose
gundamexia95 1 year ago
@gundamexia95
grip 500 means 500 sand grains per area (imho per cm²) 1000 means twice as much.
Less grains means bigger grain size -> more scratches, more material removement.
So you go from low grid to higher to archive a smooth surface. 500 is pretty rough 1000 is smooth.

I always feel like I'm choking if I don't wet sand, so I think what you were pointing out in the video was "no joking matter".

i thought it is painting 1st then sanding??
madnessroxs 2 years ago
Why should you do that? Sanding removes the paint you just applied. The typical build order is:
crafting -> surface smoothing (sanding, priming) -> painting -> applying decals -> inking + dry-brushing
lhasarus 2 years ago
oo.. when u said painting, what painting do u mean?
madnessroxs 2 years ago
and can i sand my model after top coating? Or will it remove the top coat i appiled? Sry for asking so much =D

I'm in the UK too, can you tell me where to find that sponge :o B&Q?

I got it from Hobby Link Japan. I assume you go to DIY shops or something like that. Perhaps they have it (I didn't see it anywhere here in Germany)
