  • Wow.. that Mary Weiss sure was a super hottie! I feel sorry for the boys going through puberty around the time she was on TV all the time. Probably cried themselves to sleep every night because she wasn't their girlfriend hahah!

  • Hot Jewish girls. I was there in 1964-65. Me likey!

  • If Mary and Dion had a kid....

  • damn and i thought my screams

    and deep growls were talent.

  • Chilling. This is...outrageous. Now I realize that was normal as a kid, were the heydays in postwar music history. What a voice.

  • Damn, I dig her voice ! Sweet thing.

  • Damn it, I wasn't even born around this clip, and I'm falling in love Mary Weiss right now!!! She is sooooo damn cute, just wanna kiss her all night long!

  • So young, so talented, so beautiful.. I'm still in love almost fifty years later. I like their cover of this tune better than some of the original work the girls did...but then, "I'm still digging James Brown"(a tip of the hat to The Tower of Power).

  • quite enjoyable in fact very good performance

  • this is so fast and furious

  • love it :-)

  • sweet and taste

  • cant see the fab twins faces.anyone have a better film?lou

  • they were hardcore

  • She was such a fox. Love this group.

  • Anything without Lulu on it gets my vote.

  • This isn't bad. I didn't think Lloyd Thaxton clips existed!

Lulu's version is the definitive, but the Beatles did a good job with it as well, especially when all four of them swapped lead vocals (the only time to my knowledge that they ever did that on a song).

  • Look for the Johnny O'Keefe version

  • The Shangri-Las were a hard working girl group.Sure got better entertainment back then and the groups didnt charge an arm and leg to see them. Its crazy what all of the big stars make. Way out of reach.

  • Not a patch on Lulu version a real singer ..

  • This is Betty singing lead on this song,Mary is lip singing it, Betty didn't travel with them much.

  • more like the gangster sisters hahaha

  • What, are the Ganser sisters in the witness protection program or something?

  • lol no, i think it had to do with the old kinescope recording.

  • hahaha!!!! I was thinking the same thing!!!!! These girls were and still are FABULOUS!!!!

  • The dance jumps or whatever the hell they were at 1:57 I aint complaining. Kinda glad I couldnt see the whole thing. Good version of the song though.

  • @putsomething

One of them died in '70.

Barbituate and alcohol overdose in L.A..

  • @ChopstickBrando thanks for that depressing bit of information

  • @putsomething You're welcome.

  • @putsomething

I'm afraid I have more depressing info for you re: Ganser sisters; the other one, Marge, died of breast cancer at 48 in 1996.

  • @ChopstickBrando you're taking this pretty far

  • wow she des have a nazal voice but they gr8..i nicked me mums cd of this hahahahaha......ptty how back then i suppose money they didnt get much unlike today where tey get 50% of the cut.gr8 band.

  • i love mary's nazal voice in this song

  • The last Shangri-Las song was Past,Present and Future and was on Mercury records not Red Bird.

    HH

  • I do not know where you get your info. But Mary and Liz(aka Betty) the last remaining members of the Shangri-Las told me that this was not their last performance but a early one.Just passing on the info from the people that would know.

    HH

  • andypoo: I think the sound and video might be out of sync in the transfer online. The backing vocalists don't jump at the "right time" either, so it seems more of the video's problem than the actual performance

  • So who did this first Lulu or Shangri la? I was born in 1963 so dont have a clue..

  • as far as i know the isley brothers 1962

  • Isleys on RCA in 1959

  • the lead singer cpouldn't lip sing very well!LOL! I remember Lloyd Thaxton practically starting the lip syncing craze, what fun!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I do remember the troll!!!!! I loved that show.........what a nice time to be young

  • Do you remember the Troll doll that opened the show?

  • Great song on a great show...The Lloyd Thaxton Show!

  • cool song
