Hey guys. I'm battling from schizophrenia. I'm not asking for money or views or anything, but just for support and for people to hear me out. My psychiatrist said to let people know about your problem, but everyone thinks I'm weird and my family cannot understand or take me seriously. I made a blog about my problems, and I hope we can talk on there. My blog is battlingschizophrenia.blogspot.com . Fellow schizophrenics, you should also come. We can fight the battle together.
This video is dangerous! Schizophrenia may be a brain disorder, but it's still a physical illness (the brain is a physical part of the body) like cancer or diabetes. You just can't see it like the others. You wouldn't tell someone with those illnesses to not take their meds. Side effects can be adjusted by doctors. End this dangerous stigma now! This is not something therapy can do alone.
@bookjunkie31 actually, if you want to be evidence-based, your comment is dangerous, because you are informationally incorrect. many people recover fully without medications, many with therapy alone (!), and many without any therapy at all. i suggest you do some more research before you put out uninformed statements like this.

Perhaps the key insight of Jungian psychology is that mental illness is not a purely individual phenomenon, but a manifestation of larger imbalances in the culture and psyche of mankind. Schizophrenics are the scapegoats of a culture which clings to superficial certainties, refusing to confront the contradictions and questions bubbling up from it's own depths; they are the receptacles of all the psychical garbage which has been denied and has yet to be dealt with in the culture.

I'm on 20mg of Olanzapine a day. One Psychiatrist has told me I will be on them for the rest of my life, another that I may eventually I will not need them.
Some individuals with schizophrenia can function without medication. However, the vast majority follow a chronic course, where medication is ABSOLUTELY necessary to reduce delusions and hallucinations, which result in substantial distress and impairment. "Atypical" medications are a major advancement. These medications have far less side affects and reduce both positive and negative symptoms. This woman is indeed, very fortunate.
@AnAcademyFightSong well....yes, the vast majority follow a chronic course....WHEN they get the meds. there is no lack of historical and modern research showing that a majority of people do not need any antipsychotics. and, by the way, the atypicals have tons of side effects, and many that the older generation neuroleptics didn't so readily cause. better to avoid them all, if at all possible.

this video / editing style of cuts to various people saying the same word over and over, over top of some lady saying something....is going to give me a mental illness.
Eh, This made me very paranoid for some reason. Skitzos, I understand, are not insane people. It's the freaking mind that's doing it, projecting mind voices. I now feel that at anytime I might start hearing voices in my head, though. Damn it. I feel like it's not the devil, but something like a psychotic madman that wants to kill everyone. Man, this is a great idea for a new book! XD
i have overcome schizophrenia without meds and hate the doctors for condemning me to a life with medication for life aarrgghhh when it comes to mental health in the mainstream the help is not there do they have a clue ??
We all think like that. Sometimes I think about ki----ing like what she was saying.
I'm just say we're all weird. We just need a nice get out vacation and a happy friend who we could share our sad stories. My mom used to said I was stupid and not smart like the other or like my siblings because I was born a preme.
Sometimes, I try not to let that get in my way because it's a waste of time. And NOW I'M GETTING MY MBA IN HUMAN RESOURCES THIS SPRING!
Who knows maybe Jesus himself was a paranoid person. Imagine yourself if someone comes to you and say: Hey, you should belive in me i am a God! what kind of reaction you get on that person?
just because i zone out alot, have an over-active imagination, ADD and talk to myself does not mean im schizophrenic, most of the stuff i think, say and feel are childhood trauma and negative habits that made me who i am today.
"I totally believed that the devil had taken me over"
Are you so sure that the devil hadn't? Can you provide proof that the devil doesn't exist? Can you provide proof that God and the Devil aren't one and the same- but one was created to take the blame and one created to bask in praise?
To everything there must be a cause. But what people focus on- such as high levels of certain chemicals in the brain or a person's life story are only the effects which were caused by??????
I cannot provide proof, though personally I don't believe in the devil, and see people's conception of the devil as largely a symbolic representation of certain aspects of their internal emotional horrors. And in my observation this is trauma-based.
You think that people are just making this up in their own heads, and blaming it on events that may have already occurred. I didn't make it up in my mind, and the only trauma that truly produced internal emotional horror in my life was hearing the voice.
There was a guy that was in prison for murder. When he was a kid he watched his Mom be murdered in front of him. Now one could say that the trauma of his childhood caused him to grow up and become a murderer himself. This is one hypothesis.
The other hypothesis is that this guy's life was totally screwed over to begin with, and it never got any better. Maybe God just doesn't give a whole lot to certain people, and some people continue to be a target for his violence their entire lives. Much like walking around with a bulls-eye on your chest and apparently being one of the "expendable" ones.
There are other forces at work here besides just nurture or nature- than just environment and DNA.
@dmackler58 bad spirits do exist, however their only ability is to twist the knife in already existing wounds. So essentially you are correct, they are just that "symbolic representations of certain aspects of internal emotional horrors". Excepting that they are not just passive, they are actively making the situation worse. Heal the wound and the spirit has nothing to work on. If you have appropriate skills you can interview the spirits as distinct from the trauma/wound healing process.
The devil isn't fucking real. Neither is Santa Claus, or the Tooth Fairy, or anything else like that. "The devil" is a concept, of "evil" which is ALSO a concept. Your fucking gay ass religion defies science and logic in the most unforgivable ways. Stop trying to convert people over YouTube, if you ask me, the Gods were aliens with impressive technology that preformed all the "miracles." They don't give a fuck about us anymore, they're not coming back. Stop praying, it doesn't work.
"Your fucking gay ass religion"- ummm.... OK then. I would really like to know what religious organization I belong to so that I can join their church, mosque, synagogue, or whatever. But thanks for stereotyping me just like everyone else that you might ever run across in your existence. Sometimes people just don't fit into your little molds. And sometimes God doesn't either. But you are right about one thing- "They don't give a fuck about us"- anymore though? Last I checked God never did.
@keith1y That is really just wonderful coming from a person whom God has never communicated to. God cares. Boy he must care just an awful lot to make children get leukemia, kill thousands in earthquakes, and be systematically destroying all the beautiful things- such as nature- that he has created. Keep living in your delusion, please, don't let reality bother you. Or just blame all the bad things on someone else. God had nothing to do with it...
My problem is not that God doesn't answer- it is that I can't get him(it) to shut up. They call it schizophrenia, but I call it being victimized by God. And he can drag anyone off into the back room and do whatever he likes with them and perpetually get away with it, because no one would ever believe the victim. Does this sound like an entity who cares? About what? Itself. Also God created my emotions, so what good does it do to reiterate to God what it already knows and physically created?
@Carex09 hi, I have had many conversations with God, and he has always been straight down the line on the side of the wounded and hurting in need of help. He has always been firm with me about my selfishness. The "god" you are telling me is talking to you and will not shut up is not the real god, it is just a little evil lying spirit giving you a hard time. Ask Jesus to remove it for you.
@keith1y "The "god" you are telling me is talking to you and will not shut up is not the real god"- This is always what religious people say. "That isn't my God... My God wouldn't do that." But God is everything. I percieve God as everywhere and everything, whilst your God apparently only is responsible for a portion of what occurs. This is very convenient, and makes life less confusing I'm sure.
@keith1y How you know that you have found the "real" God is if everywhere you look is the same God. My God is the one who made the wildflowers. And my God is the one who created plows which plow them under for monocultures. My God is the one who created Mothers who care for their children. And my God is the one who created drunkards who don't care about themselves. One God who creates all. This is what God has told me it is. If your God does not encompass everything, then it is not really God.
@Carex09 God encompasses everything that is good. If your "voice" will not leave you alone then that is not good, and it is definitely not God. God's character is that of kindness and gentleness.
@keith1y Having children is good, but overpopulating the world is bad. Having electricity for heating and air conditioning is good, but coal power plants, and dams are bad. Being able to have the freedom to travel is good, but spewing more CO2 into the atmosphere is bad. Thus the river giveth water, but it also can drown you and flood your house. Apparently the distinction between good and bad in your mind is very distinct. But in reality, I think it is not so clear. Much like God itself.
@keith1y "God's character is that of kindness and gentleness." And this is the same entity who created great white sharks and crocodiles? Who caused at least 5 major extinction events that killed more than 50% of the worlds species? Who caused the crusades to happen, as well as having people fight for thousands of years over a piece of land that isn't worth anything (Jerusalem, Israel)? Who told Abraham to kill his son? Who crucified Jesus among thousands of others? Nice rose colored glasses.
@Carex09 Hi carex, God does not cause leukemia, nor does he kill thousands in earthquakes. We have responsibility for the world, God will help out when asked, he cares a great deal, and he has answers, if you will ask the questions.
WTF? Firstly if you believe in God you give him respect by using A CAPITAL G for his name, God! secondly you have no right to judge who goes and who doesn't enter the Kingdom of God!
which god are we talking about here? why is it a him, a gender, at all?
and what respect does it so deserve? where's the evidence of this god existing in the first place to be given respect, and where is the evidence of this god, if it existed, having done anything to deserve the respect?
is it just automatic respect without evidence or is it earned, like the rest of us? and if it doesn't have to earn it, how is it all powerful?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! You actually believe it, too - that's the sad part. Have fun eating pie in Heaven, I'll be over in reality, being realistic with the other smart people.
@torking82 Carex, I have had many conversations with God, and he has always been straight down the line on the side of the wounded and hurting in need of help. He has always been firm with me about my selfishness. The "god" you are telling me is talking to you and will not shut up is not the real god, it is just a little evil lying spirit giving you a hard time. Ask Jesus to remove it for you.
@tehlulz576 au contraire, in my experience praying works very well indeed, you could try it yourself and see. I have seen and documented many miracles, and many healings. I have also encountered something like 900 specifically identifiable spirits, some of which were particularly nasty.
@JoeFGale so am I..she wants to get off of her meds and try something natural, but we need to find a physician who will be willing to help us go through this..
@JoeFGale My fiance was scared of my diagnosis but now he totally believes in recovery and how people can get sucked into the Disability Industrial Complex.
I am very happy to have been taking part in the ISPS world conference in June this year. Seeing such people as Debra Lampshire gave me a lot of hope for the future. Also the fact that recovery was a major theme at the conference and the focus on the 'truth' in the patients experience - I found that very important in terms of involving the patient in his/her own recovery. Much similar to what is said in this clip.
My opinion, based on my experience, is that if there are such things as chemical imbalances they are caused by the underlying emotional problems...mostly traumas. If you resolve the emotional problems (though any number of means, therapy being just one, and perhaps not the best one!) then the so-called chemical imbalances go away.
The conventional mental health field, though, simplistically & incorrectly blames chemical imbalances as the cause! (Then they prescribe the meds.)
your'e right, if you just properly nourish someone with a chemical imbalance you can almost make it go away like a bruise. but there is so much money in prescribing medications. terrible! and only in the states you see these extreme cases... i wonder why.
as far as i understand, the dopaminergic hypothesis as a cause for schizophrenia has been discredited. but yes, in some cases there seems to be a correlation between imbalanced neurotransmitters and the symptoms of schizophrenia, but certainly childhood trauma can throw off your neurotransmitters in a major way...
@dmackler58 Can prolonged subjection of a child to a narcissistic parent, along with a total lack of participation in said child's personal development cause schizophrenia to develop?
@quartercherries no. like bipolar disorder it is caused by chemical imbalances. although someone will always be "seeded" with these diseases even if they are not apparent until later on, im sure enviromental expreiences can traumatize a person enough to make them submiss to the illness at a quicker rate or with more sevarity.
there is no such thing as a mental DISEASE ask any pathologist who have done autopsies on people who were diagnosed as "mentally ill" there is NO evidence that those people had a chemical or brain disorder according to ALL pathology Yes !People do suffer from mental "conditions" but they are not "diseases " nor "illness " a Mental "condition" is abstract Psychiatry is NOT science its pseudo science an OPINION based profession that perscribes DRUGS to MASK symptoms they cure No one
I agree 100%... I'm on meds, but I'm constantly working towards getting off, I believe my psychosis wa caused by trauma and negative habits... and drugs
@pacskin lots of exercise, lots of water, lots of rest(not necessareli sleep), there is no other way... of u live in the US you could try to get a medicinal marijuana prescription
@pacskin but it will not be schizophrenia u are recovering from.. this so called disease is just a condition.. poorly and egocentrically cast upon fellow men as a disease. it is indeed scary and it takes a whole lot of hard work consisting in 90% rest towards recovery but it is not a mental illness.. just as many other so-called mentall illnesses they are just glitches, bugs.. inevitable, or at least unforseeable(well not anymore) consequences of 2day's society's lifestyle
I wonder, when people say they "believe" in chemical imbalances, if they have looked at the medical facts put forth by doctors who don't agree with this. That they're not real, biological diseases. Symptoms that get called "chem imbals," in their argument, come out of the circumstances of a person's life. Part of the challenge, There is often a "belief" without necessarily knowing the facts. Do you know what I mean? Not meant as an insult at all. Just continuing the dialogue.
I'm so glad someone is making a movie about this. The myths of "chemical imbalances" and patients so-called "need" for medication have become accepted truths. The general population speaks them as 100% fact not to be disputed and if you try to offer an alternative thought (that people's human problems/circumstances can cause them to have a breakdown and psychotherapy w/no meds can help them recover fully), they just will not hear it. We need more voices like this to help examine the reality.
I agree on how chemical imbalances have become mane focus for the cause of mental illness. I believe that chemical imbalances are real. But really, some people go to see a psychotherapist for strange behavior, and get diagnosed for schizophrenia while the real cause in some cases is drugs like Methamphetamine. I feel like the doctors and therapists don't really give a shit, as long as they get there pay check.
1) Lots of people get diagnosed with schizophrenia when the problem is something else---drugs, etc. People who love to diagnose are often SO lazy.
2) I think most therapists are downright terrible---and many are just out for the paycheck. And some like the combo of the paycheck and the ability to control others' lives.
If someone else doesn't, another will step in and take over or abuse. All they have to do is threaten you with that or a mental illness, manipulate with it, and you're theirs. Either or, or you accept going to the funny farm. It's all about control. It's okay, most would rather have a therapist/ police officer to deal with than some other loney manipulating, and they will, every chance they get.

XD

Carex09 2 years ago
I cannot provide proof, though personally I don't believe in the devil, and see people's conception of the devil as largely a symbolic representation of certain aspects of their internal emotional horrors. And in my observation this is trauma-based.
dmackler58 2 years ago
You think that people are just making this up in their own heads, and blaming it on events that may have already occurred. I didn't make it up in my mind, and the only trauma that truly produced internal emotional horror in my life was hearing the voice.
There was a guy that was in prison for murder. When he was a kid he watched his Mom be murdered in front of him. Now one could say that the trauma of his childhood caused him to grow up and become a murderer himself. This is one hypothesis.
Carex09 2 years ago

Stop praying, it doesn't work.
tehlulz576 2 years ago
"Your fucking gay ass religion"- ummm.... OK then. I would really like to know what religious organization I belong to so that I can join their church, mosque, synagogue, or whatever. But thanks for stereotyping me just like everyone else that you might ever run across in your existence. Sometimes people just don't fit into your little molds. And sometimes God doesn't either. But you are right about one thing- "They don't give a fuck about us"- anymore though? Last I checked God never did.
Carex09 2 years ago
@Carex09 God Cares, talk to him about you emotions and he will answer.
keith1y 1 year ago
@keith1y That is really just wonderful coming from a person whom God has never communicated to. God cares. Boy he must care just an awful lot to make children get leukemia, kill thousands in earthquakes, and be systematically destroying all the beautiful things- such as nature- that he has created. Keep living in your delusion, please, don't let reality bother you. Or just blame all the bad things on someone else. God had nothing to do with it...
Carex09 1 year ago
My problem is not that God doesn't answer- it is that I can't get him(it) to shut up. They call it schizophrenia, but I call it being victimized by God. And he can drag anyone off into the back room and do whatever he likes with them and perpetually get away with it, because no one would ever believe the victim. Does this sound like an entity who cares? About what? Itself. Also God created my emotions, so what good does it do to reiterate to God what it already knows and physically created?
Carex09 1 year ago
@Carex09 hi, I have had many conversations with God, and he has always been straight down the line on the side of the wounded and hurting in need of help. He has always been firm with me about my selfishness. The "god" you are telling me is talking to you and will not shut up is not the real god, it is just a little evil lying spirit giving you a hard time. Ask Jesus to remove it for you.
keith1y 1 year ago
@keith1y "The "god" you are telling me is talking to you and will not shut up is not the real god"- This is always what religious people say. "That isn't my God... My God wouldn't do that." But God is everything. I percieve God as everywhere and everything, whilst your God apparently only is responsible for a portion of what occurs. This is very convenient, and makes life less confusing I'm sure.
Carex09 1 year ago
@keith1y How you know that you have found the "real" God is if everywhere you look is the same God. My God is the one who made the wildflowers. And my God is the one who created plows which plow them under for monocultures. My God is the one who created Mothers who care for their children. And my God is the one who created drunkards who don't care about themselves. One God who creates all. This is what God has told me it is. If your God does not encompass everything, then it is not really God.
Carex09 1 year ago
@Carex09 God encompasses everything that is good. If your "voice" will not leave you alone then that is not good, and it is definitely not God. God's character is that of kindness and gentleness.
keith1y 1 year ago
@keith1y Having children is good, but overpopulating the world is bad. Having electricity for heating and air conditioning is good, but coal power plants, and dams are bad. Being able to have the freedom to travel is good, but spewing more CO2 into the atmosphere is bad. Thus the river giveth water, but it also can drown you and flood your house. Apparently the distinction between good and bad in your mind is very distinct. But in reality, I think it is not so clear. Much like God itself.
Carex09 1 year ago
@keith1y "God's character is that of kindness and gentleness." And this is the same entity who created great white sharks and crocodiles? Who caused at least 5 major extinction events that killed more than 50% of the worlds species? Who caused the crusades to happen, as well as having people fight for thousands of years over a piece of land that isn't worth anything (Jerusalem, Israel)? Who told Abraham to kill his son? Who crucified Jesus among thousands of others? Nice rose colored glasses.
Carex09 1 year ago
@Carex09 Hi carex, God does not cause leukemia, nor does he kill thousands in earthquakes. We have responsibility for the world, God will help out when asked, he cares a great deal, and he has answers, if you will ask the questions.

give 'him' respect?
which god are we talking about here? why is it a him, a gender, at all?
and what respect does it so deserve? where's the evidence of this god existing in the first place to be given respect, and where is the evidence of this god, if it existed, having done anything to deserve the respect?
is it just automatic respect without evidence or is it earned, like the rest of us? and if it doesn't have to earn it, how is it all powerful?
I'm just curious.

@tehlulz576 au contraire, in my experience praying works very well indeed, you could try it yourself and see. I have seen and documented many miracles, and many healings. I have also encountered something like 900 specifically identifiable spirits, some of which were particularly nasty.

Such a crime!
dmackler58 2 years ago
your'e right, if you just properly nourish someone with a chemical imbalance you can almost make it go away like a bruise. but there is so much money in prescribing medications. terrible! and only in the states you see these extreme cases... i wonder why.
hiMaryJane 2 years ago
an excess of dopamine in the brain can cause schizophrenia. medication can reduce symptoms but side effects can be thought without emotion
glovnhand 2 years ago
as far as i understand, the dopaminergic hypothesis as a cause for schizophrenia has been discredited. but yes, in some cases there seems to be a correlation between imbalanced neurotransmitters and the symptoms of schizophrenia, but certainly childhood trauma can throw off your neurotransmitters in a major way...

KaceFace275 1 year ago
@KaceFace275
there is no such thing as a mental DISEASE ask any pathologist who have done autopsies on people who were diagnosed as "mentally ill" there is NO evidence that those people had a chemical or brain disorder according to ALL pathology Yes !People do suffer from mental "conditions" but they are not "diseases " nor "illness " a Mental "condition" is abstract Psychiatry is NOT science its pseudo science an OPINION based profession that perscribes DRUGS to MASK symptoms they cure No one

@pacskin but it will not be schizophrenia u are recovering from.. this so called disease is just a condition.. poorly and egocentrically cast upon fellow men as a disease. it is indeed scary and it takes a whole lot of hard work consisting in 90% rest towards recovery but it is not a mental illness.. just as many other so-called mentall illnesses they are just glitches, bugs.. inevitable, or at least unforseeable(well not anymore) consequences of 2day's society's lifestyle
pawppy 1 year ago
I wonder, when people say they "believe" in chemical imbalances, if they have looked at the medical facts put forth by doctors who don't agree with this. That they're not real, biological diseases. Symptoms that get called "chem imbals," in their argument, come out of the circumstances of a person's life. Part of the challenge, There is often a "belief" without necessarily knowing the facts. Do you know what I mean? Not meant as an insult at all. Just continuing the dialogue.
MusicTeacherMcGorry 2 years ago
I'm so glad someone is making a movie about this. The myths of "chemical imbalances" and patients so-called "need" for medication have become accepted truths. The general population speaks them as 100% fact not to be disputed and if you try to offer an alternative thought (that people's human problems/circumstances can cause them to have a breakdown and psychotherapy w/no meds can help them recover fully), they just will not hear it. We need more voices like this to help examine the reality.
MusicTeacherMcGorry 2 years ago
I agree on how chemical imbalances have become mane focus for the cause of mental illness. I believe that chemical imbalances are real. But really, some people go to see a psychotherapist for strange behavior, and get diagnosed for schizophrenia while the real cause in some cases is drugs like Methamphetamine. I feel like the doctors and therapists don't really give a shit, as long as they get there pay check.
OmegaMeho41 2 years ago
I agree with much of what you say:
1) Lots of people get diagnosed with schizophrenia when the problem is something else---drugs, etc. People who love to diagnose are often SO lazy.
2) I think most therapists are downright terrible---and many are just out for the paycheck. And some like the combo of the paycheck and the ability to control others' lives.
dmackler58 2 years ago
If someone else doesn't, another will step in and take over or abuse. All they have to do is threaten you with that or a mental illness, manipulate with it, and you're theirs. Either or, or you accept going to the funny farm. It's all about control. It's okay, most would rather have a therapist/ police officer to deal with than some other loney manipulating, and they will, every chance they get.
