@nazworkshop All fighting has a degree of luck to it (your technique's don't guarantee success). I know all about muscle tension/relaxation and structure. I studied Wing Chun in Hong Kong for 5 years. And although my teachers had amazing 'skill' i don't think there training prepared them for real fighting. I have trained in a number of martial art's but if you never test them you never know. I have worked as a bouncer and have fought professionally, i know what works for me. PEACE !

This guy fights the original set of Wing Chun. Wong trained under Ip Man himself and has been teaching and spreading Wing Chun all around Hong Kong. Sadly he died because of stroke in 1997. Wing Chun also trains one to relax besides physical motions, which makes Wing Chun a well balanced martial art, physically and mentally.
Yip Man and Wong Shun Leung won hundreds of fight between themselves. They fought all styles of Kung Fu and shut down their schools lol. They're the originators of MMA. There's no one style that dominates all. Of course the athletes nowadays are in better shape And know many styles, I guarantee yip and wong would hold their own
all you kung fu geeks argue about some lame shit. Get a life and please go to your local bar find the biggest man in there and ask him to step outside for a fight. You will see it does not matter what lineage u study soft, hard, internal, external or whatever its still going to be a fight. You will learn more about fighting and yourself in that fight than from any "MASTER" or martial arts class. Go on do it stop talking shit and do it!!!!!!
so what are you saying that wong shun leung couldn't go into any bar and beat the shit out of any one he likes?
don't think so mate wong was the man he could defeat any big man!
but I do agree with you practice of something is the only way to get better at it
i.e fighting a lot and you will get better at it
However by practicing Wing Chun a lot and its techniques you will be good at fighting as well. although Wing Chun is way better than just fighting without technique. Wing Chun is science!!!
Yes he may of had many fights against small chinese kung fu artists and street thugs none of which offer much of a threat. Against a 300 pound Samoan bouncer or a 155 pound wrestler he would get owned in fact most modern day combat athletes would dominate these old school masters. I love wing chun but i dont believe all the hype, its not no#1. Ppl who practice these arts like to believe there master is invincible cuz it makes them feel like they r part of something special, they know THE SECRET
I agree wiv u on the 'secret' & invincible master stuff. There is alot of stuff still done today that would only work against 'small chinese ppl' (i.e. it breaks down in the face of modern 'hyper' athletes & larger westen physiques) add to this alot of BS teachers and its easy to see why kung-fu has such a bad rep but that doesnt mean that everything is useless and it shouldnt deminish the acheviments of the past, if they were good then, they could prob be good now wiv right training.
I do love wing chun, i just dont think it is the be all and end all. Good to see some ppl have common sense, and dont blindly follow the BS or refuse to except other ideas.
@Simplemindedbogey yeah anyone can kick the ball's, are they pressure point's. If WSL kicked a 250 pound dude in the nut's it might wind him but it might just piss him off. Wong Shun Leung is recognised by many wing chun masters as one of GM Ip Man best students. When Bruce Lee joined Wing Chun kung Fu classes, Wong Shun Leung was already an relatively experienced student there, Sihing, and took him under his wing and help greatly with Bruce's training. This is why I referred to him as Bruce's mentor. Later on, because of Bruce's respect for WSL and his kung fu skills, he sought his advice when to he went into making films etc.
Yeah Bruce Lee official Sifu was Ip Man, but WSL was one of his best students and thus he became a mentor for many newer students in Ip Man class in the 50's, Bruce had many private lessons with WSL and he also helped him with the choreography in 'Enter the Dragon'.
Yip Man was the grandmaster, but if you've ever been in a traditional school, you'll see that the senior students and instructors under him do most of the teaching. The grandmaster can't be everywhere at once. So in fact, Wong Shun Leung was really Bruce Lee's teacher because he spent the most time with him. The grandmaster of my school is Sunny Tang. He's usually doing something else, but he's always there for you if you have a question. One thing though. When you ask him a question, you must be very specific. If you're not, he'll give you weird or even misleading answers. How long have you been training under Sifu Darrell?
You can't trivialize WSL just because he is Yip Man's pupil. Yip Man didn't invent Wing Chun, he was a student, and is Grandmaster because Wing Chun was formerly a secret art. There was no authority on Wing Chun, so made himself authority. Bruce Lee learned too, is he just a student?

I'm just a beginner but ONE thing i understood for sure... the multiform question "can you be aa better fighter by learning tecniques?"
NO. You can't. If all you do is just learn a tecnique for the sole purpose of learning it and use in combat, you've already lost.
Form is the way to teach body and intention the ROOT of the form you are studing. So it can became your root. And be free from
