But, as I point out, these particular individuals are not that big of a deal because they are ON the island, and there is room for everyone on this particular day. But, when they are on the causeway leading to the island, or there is traffic on the island, they are a problem. By law, they are allowed on the causeway, but they still make problems on busy days.

Also these "road" bikes will not fall apart if you hit a bump, however driving on a bumpy road will cause the tires to twist and eventualy break. Also thanks to stupidly thin tires its quite likely to fall from these bikes at higher speeds.

I can't stand these douches that ride their bikes on busy roads. It makes it dangerous for motorist, because you have a lame hobby. Why should I have to swerve my truck into the other lane to avoid you, but increase my chances of getting in a head on collision because of bike baths have other people using them... It's easier to avoid someone on a bike bath vs avoiding A in coming vehicle.
Also, most bike paths are actually simply non-motorized vehicle or public use paths and many people walk their dogs on these paths. Dogs can be hazardous to cyclists. Unless of course you'd rather have the dogs in the road instead of the cyclists?

I have a road similar to this where I live, with a bike path next to it. However, the bike path is complete shit, full with pot holes and cracks. Can't ride a road bike on it. So I do what these guys do, ride on the road. It's legal, just pass when you have a clear its not a big fucking deal unless you're a drama queen bitch.

the problem with riding on a path, and I don't know where you are but at least here in santa monica, is that people who are slow, or walking, on the path take up space and create a block in the path that requires you to slow down or stop before you can actually pass them, by riding on the road, as far right as is safely possible, a cyclist allows cars to pass and avoids the possibility of running into slower cyclists or pedestrians on the bike path.
I can't describe to you how often this happens where I live, and yet we have one of the most extensive pathway systems in the country. I've seen these clowns run red-lights all the time on parkways, and block traffic on smaller roadways. One time a frustrated friend actually threw an empty soda can at one of these dudes, lol. I mountain bike myself, but ever since I was kid the number one rule was stay out of the roadway, and utilize the sidewalks and paths!

@bambizzoozled Velodrome Track racing and Road Racing are 2 different things, requiring 2 different kinds of bike. Many start out on track then work towards road. But they are 2 different disciplines. In this era of increased obesity rates in the developed world, cut some slack for those trying to stay in shape and compete.

like i said before i average 20+ mph on the road, i use a carbon fiber bike and sometimes super light wheels (also carbon fiber) so a bike path would mess up my bike due to bumps and also the speed im going at is too fast for a bike path. Plus when im doing efforts i can go faster than the speed limit.
For the road I am sponsored by debernardi so i have their highest level bike. For track cycling i use a giant tcr advanced ( track bike not the road model) its full carbon and there are only six in the U.S. I use the giant the most since im trying to get a national title under my belt for track and go to worlds next year. I do have a 2008 fuji sl pro but i only use it for races or coming into the days before hand

If a carbon frame is made correctly it can be very strong. But many companies are cutting corners to make bikes lighter and cheaper that carbon today can be very brittle and no stiffness than it was ten years ago. As for the giant its a sprint bike so they made the bike super stiff. It is heavier than other bikes but for stiffness its better than some other bikes. Ive seen tour de france level bikes get holes in the frame from a rock that flew into the air.
A real Lance cyclist has enough energy to use that swerving cycle path, using thicker tires if required. Been there, done that.
Nowadays, even some JOGGERS jog on the road, when there's a perfect sidewalk present! For their own good they should be fined.

But, as I point out, these particular individuals are not that big of a deal because they are ON the island, and there is room for everyone on this particular day. But, when they are on the causeway leading to the island, or there is traffic on the island, they are a problem. By law, they are allowed on the causeway, but they still make problems on busy days.

Also these "road" bikes will not fall apart if you hit a bump, however driving on a bumpy road will cause the tires to twist and eventualy break. Also thanks to stupidly thin tires its quite likely to fall from these bikes at higher speeds.

Why should I have to swerve my truck into the other lane to avoid you, but increase my chances of getting in a head on collision because of bike baths have other people using them... Also, most bike paths are actually simply non-motorized vehicle or public use paths and many people walk their dogs on these paths. Dogs can be hazardous to cyclists. Unless of course you'd rather have the dogs in the road instead of the cyclists?

I have a road similar to this where I live, with a bike path next to it. However, the bike path is complete shit, full with pot holes and cracks. Can't ride a road bike on it. So I do what these guys do, ride on the road. It's legal, just pass when you have a clear its not a big fucking deal unless you're a drama queen bitch.

the problem with riding on a path, and I don't know where you are but at least here in santa monica, is that people who are slow, or walking, on the path take up space and create a block in the path that requires you to slow down or stop before you can actually pass them, by riding on the road, as far right as is safely possible, a cyclist allows cars to pass and avoids the possibility of running into slower cyclists or pedestrians on the bike path.

I can't describe to you how often this happens where I live, and yet we have one of the most extensive pathway systems in the country. I've seen these clowns run red-lights all the time on parkways, and block traffic on smaller roadways. One time a frustrated friend actually threw an empty soda can at one of these dudes, lol. I mountain bike myself, but ever since I was kid the number one rule was stay out of the roadway, and utilize the sidewalks and paths!

@GUMMYBEAYUH If I'm riding on smaller roads I don't block traffic because I can accelerate as fast as cars can (on small roads), so in a line of traffic there's never a big gap between me and the car infront of me. I've had water balloons thrown at me, and my parents have had bricks and glass bottles thrown. DONT EVER FUCKING THROW SOMETHING AT A CYCLIST! It could be an amateur rider who gets distracted and crashes/dies because you throw something at them.

But they are 2 different disciplines. In this era of increased obesity rates in the developed world, cut some slack for those trying to stay in shape and compete.

like i said before i average 20+ mph on the road, i use a carbon fiber bike and sometimes super light wheels (also carbon fiber) so a bike path would mess up my bike due to bumps and also the speed im going at is too fast for a bike path. Plus when im doing efforts i can go faster than the speed limit.

For the road I am sponsored by debernardi so i have their highest level bike. For track cycling i use a giant tcr advanced ( track bike not the road model) its full carbon and there are only six in the U.S. I use the giant the most since im trying to get a national title under my belt for track and go to worlds next year. I do have a 2008 fuji sl pro but i only use it for races or coming into the days before hand

If a carbon frame is made correctly it can be very strong. But many companies are cutting corners to make bikes lighter and cheaper that carbon today can be very brittle and no stiffness than it was ten years ago. As for the giant its a sprint bike so they made the bike super stiff. It is heavier than other bikes but for stiffness its better than some other bikes. Ive seen tour de france level bikes get holes in the frame from a rock that flew into the air.

Nowadays, even some JOGGERS jog on the road, when there's a perfect sidewalk present! For their own good they should be fined.
