  • that is a loveley radio you've got there just watched your video and I really do like the radio you have there it sounds great for a old radio I'd really like something like that maybe one day I'll lay my hands on something like you've got there I've had a YAESU FT ONE in the past but I bet the older radios like this one you've got work a lot better than the one I've had. Anyhow I'll let you go and I'll wish you the best 73's for now. Stephen M3SNV from brekfield Liverpool United Kingdom.

  • I am a radio guy since kid but just getting into tubes. What boat anchor do you recommend the Collins R390A seems to be one top on the list. What Hammarlund do you recommend? Any idea of cost on these collectible good performing radios?

Q2) How do these compare with current transistor Ham gear say 1995-2009 vintage in the $600-$1800 range. Ever do any comparisons? I understand the tube radios hold their own. The new stuff has the memory and displays and smaller of course. Just curious.

  • It's the beauty of the classic, the romance, the quality, the nostalgia of the past. Awesome.

  • I regret having to sell it...just not enough room.

  • Great showing Tim. I also own that piece along with the HQ129X coupled with the Heathkit Q-Multiplier. The 129 gets the majority of my monitoring, especially on the BCB. 5 Stars :-)

  • Hi Tim, some lovely old equipment you have there, the old gear just oozes character and sound fantastic.

    Keep the videos coming.

  • I have an HQ-129x. Weighs 50 lbs. or so. So I bought a cheap auto mechanic's creeper to roll it around the living room carpet. And sit down to play it (have no heavy duty desk). Radio is almost as long as the creeper!

  • Not a bad update on the HQ-129. Those old rigs have great audio. A couple of the old rigs I have have impressed me no end as to audio quality. BTW, I think I've worked W9ZN!!! 73
