When I first got the 120 I did the same thing...watched a whole cycle. I've only had one issue. The drain hose was loose where it meets the unit on the under side. I applied some waterproof silicone to the inside of the hose and the piece that it slides on to and replaced the hose. I put out the old litterbox for a day to let the connection dry. I've had no problems since. My cat took to it pretty much right away. Its a very good product for cat owners.

@MrsMeowMix They made lots of improvements - There's a piece that helps cut up any hair that gets inside the hopper, so it doesn't clog or get wrapped around the impeller, there's a piece that cleans the bottom of the granule bowl & bottom of the basin. The whole 'computer" has been redone and it has a cat activation mode so it will only run when used,. There's a cleaning cartridge & cleaning mode. It's just AWESOME.

I had some issues with the original model but none with this one.

i'd really love to get one for my 2 cats but isn't it really cramped in those little bowls? how sturdy is the arm? my luck my dog would try to steal a turd and break it. and what about the sides, do they get soiled often? thanks

They are rather bulky and do require the water, drain & electricity, and I can't imagine that they fit in too many bathrooms. We are fortunate that we had room in the basement near the laundry. But adding even one more would require some electrical and plumbing work. When and if we are able to build our new house, we'll definitely have a "CatGenie Room" with water, drain & electric run for each one! I'm sure that non-cat lovers will think we're nuts!

I saw the CatGenie online a last year and I thought it was awesome. Unfortunately, with the drain line requirement I couldn't use it unless we spent lots of money adding lines to the "cat room". Our bathrooms are too small and we have six cats (therefore, six boxes).

That's good information, too. I didn't think about being able to leave them without a sitter. We would still need to do some major work to get water lines available to where the boxes are; as I said there is no space in our bathroom for even one. And, right now, money is tight (ha, imagine that!)

The granules aren't really moist. The liquid goes through into the basin and if you run a cleaning cycle a few times a day, it'll always be clean when they need to use it. They do have a 90 day money back guarantee, so if your cats decide not to use it, you can always return it.

I've had 2 CatGenies for 2 years. The granules are washable & completely sanitized during the cleaning cycle. You add more as needed depending on if your cat is a "digger" and flings litter out of the box. The poop goes into the hopper where it is pulvarized and goes out the sewer system (or toilet) wherever you have the drain line. CatGenie's website has more detail. I LOVE the CatGenie. I have 4 cats - a Ragdoll and 3 Bengals, and I have 2 because when they were young kittens they couldn't wait to go through a 1/2 hour cleaning cycle. I have each one clean at different times, so there's always an available box for them. The sani-solution is compeletely safe. It's the same stuff vets use to disinfect the exam tables.

Oh gosh... my Sugarplum likes to poke into the shower or bath when I'm in there... I'm quite sure he'd do this, too. I'm a bit worried about the kitties putting their paws into the cleaning solution mixed with dissolved poop and tracking that around, or licking it off and swallowing the mixture.....
