I believe this is DICE's first go on having a singleplayer in a BF game, I believe that they will learn from their mistakes in BF4. If you want "freedom", go play Fallout or that overrated Skyrim, even though it's a false illusion of freedom. If you want a military simulator, go play Arma. (which is a good game btw)
Its not their first try at a singleplayer campaign. Bad Company and Bad Company 2 both had singleplayer campaigns - and although I haven't played BC, BC2s was actually quite good. It allowed you to flank, amongst other things (it was built with you blowing holes in walls in mind). Bad Company aperently had a much better campaign then BC2.
Yes, Battlefield 3's single player is heavily scripted, like he mentioned. Not everybody likes the linear style, but I don't mind it at all. That's just how the single player campaign was conceived by the developers; to provide a cinematic style single player experience, blending cut scenes with real time combat.
Even the multiplayer is bad. I don't know why they have to implement these RPG elements like leveling and weapon unlocks into FPshooter game.
New bloods get these peashooters were veterans run around with superior arsenal. If you weren't playing this game right after when it was released then you are effectively screwed.
If some game company would make CoD 1 that looks like this it would be the blockbuster in PC world. Please no more of these RPGhordecrapFPS games.

IMO, Battlefield 3's campaign was the worst campaign I've ever played in my life. It was more cliched than Homefront, buggy, and short. I had to restart the game 3 times just to finish it. If anything, I should have been playing the Bad Company or Medal of Honor campaigns.
And don't give me that "multiplayer games are supposed to have crappy singleplayer" bullshit because even UT3 had a better campaign than this.
I didn't like BC2 because I felt the story was too scripted. And I will not buy a game for it to just be multiplayer based. I like to know that when my XBL runs out the game is still playable. The last Modern wargame I bought was Flashpoint Red River, and even that series is slowly getting more and more scripted now.

I agree, I used to enjoy these kinds of games but ever since this and Money Wasted 3 I've become extremely jaded with them.
It was also extremely fucking buggy for my xbox; it wouldn't even save my progress and in the process of learning that had to play the first half of the game twice before doing the whole thing in one session, which needless to say pissed me off to no end.
If I plan to play a MMS in the future I'm just going to hire it.
i consider myself a bf fanboy, but i do agree with most if not all of the things he says in this clip. BF3 tries to hard to impress visually and not with it's actual gameplay. The single player is incredibly linear and boring, and i would have much preffered to just verse bots on multiplayer maps similar to 1942 and battlefield 2, or if you are new to gaming, TF2.
The Vanilla multiplayer maps are also TERRIBLE. Small and poorly designed. B2K barely saved a game that was 2ft down in shit.
to be honest i dont think most people really care for SP in CoD and BF3. thats why you get things like assassins creed which have real story. but what you do say is true but i find this corridor fighting in most fps's

The Jet mission would have been an amazing opportunity to train you for the multiplayer but no, "let's just have you watch the NPC fly for 10 minutes while you press the LMB every now and again".
The story has way too many plot holes, not to mention it's just bland and generic. It's scripted and linear as hell. Don't even know why DICE bothered with it.

The single player should have had the freedom of Operation Flashpoint Red River ( Hate that particular OF but it would work here) You wouldn't have complete freedom, but you would have enough space to be able to flank and take multiple routes.
Whats actually funny about this is that they said in an interview that the reason they didn't add bots to Battlefield 3 was to make an "excellent" singleplayer experience. DICE, you are disappoint.

Oh, wait, Dice makes the singleplayer... oh darn...
Well it IS the play style of CoD (follow this guy, cover, shoot, follow this guy, cover, shoot) but it is worse because of the overused script, all the area zone you can't go (a LOT of them), bugs, etc.
CoD's campaign is better but it needs some improvement (dying because you didn't follow your friend or you went a bit too far out of the zone? Bullshit!) but it has more rythm and the AI is better.
Or play Halo. Good graphics and more freedom (trololol)

You know why they won't let you fly in sp? Because if they forced you to fly and you couldn't progress without first learning to fly, people would flip their shit.

i agree the passanger in a jet mission was boring but you could've done a better job lol, also i love the part later on outside the bank i think it was, there is an LPR in the window and when you shoot him another runs in his place, i sat there with my crosshair in one spot and killed around 150 soldiers

I was actually considering getting this game because of how much i liked bad company 2 but, if i'm just doing a bunch of scripted sequences then it wont at all be enjoyable for me i want to blow things up without being told to, which was why bad company was fun.
The main reason u cant run around alone is because this isnt Call of Duty. This is a teamplaying game and there really is no point in running away from your squad, going crazy and shooting for every direction. Imagine having a loon like that in your squad in a real war.All of a sudden Totalbiscuit is gone doing his own thing,shooting from your right and u don't know whether or not it's enemies firing at ya. Sure, might not be fun in a game where u cant run and gun. But it's what BF is loved for.

Well it wasn't as bright in the game because... notice how there's always presence of shit and dust on the guy's goggles. So it blocks out roughly 40% of the light. Very smart not to wipe it off. Ancient Chinese trick or something.

i dont know if you have ever been in a real fire fight or even shot a real machine gun in that matter...but the muzzle flash is bright as hell and will actually light a room up. BF3 is way better realistically and graphics wise than MW3. ~ coming from a US Army Soldier

That wouldn't be awesome - flying planes is extremely hard (at least for me), in over 50 hrs of gameplay i managed to get combined 50 plane points (with around 20k of heli points, i'm not using vehicles much), so it would made this mission IMPOSSIBLE to pass for me.
Acctually when the character was walking towards the plane i was praying that i won't have to fly. Fortunately i didn't.

TB, as a big fan of yours, I'm kind off dissapointed of you. You are a proffesional gamer, and reviewer (From my point of you.), so you should consider every intch of detail and information of a game. DICE aren't really the Campaign veterans. This is only their 3rd try on a campaign. You may think, thats enough. Really?! Look at CoD. It is a long franchise, with every game having campaign. But are they the masters of campaign making? No. Theyre not.

The game is dull and boring but looks amazing and sounds amazing like he said. DICE's standing with previous campaigns don't matter, TB pointed out what was in the game,and very well, not what it should have been. Besides, he's not reviewing it.

There aren't any Rambo's in real life, that's what Battlefield 3's campaign tried to say. Also, games which are mostly multiplayer focused, have campaign as training for multiplayer.

The Jet mission would have been an amazing opportunity to train you for the multiplayer but no, "let's just have you watch the NPC fly for 10 minutes while you press the LMB every now and again".
The story has way too many plot holes, not to mention it's just bland and generic. It's scripted and linear as hell. Don't even know why DICE bothered with it.

@matthewthereviewer If you really care about singleplayer you should neither get BF3 nor MW3 and actually buy a fps that is mainly desined as a singleplayer game with a multiplayer option not the other way around .
However, BF3 has the most awesome multiplayer i have seen in years so if you are mainly an online player then you should deffinately get it.

The single player should have had the freedom of Operation Flashpoint Red River ( Hate that particular OF but it would work here) You wouldn't have complete freedom, but you would have enough space to be able to flank and take multiple routes.

Well it IS the play style of CoD (follow this guy, cover, shoot, follow this guy, cover, shoot) but it is worse because of the overused script, all the area zone you can't go (a LOT of them), bugs, etc.
CoD's campaign is better but it needs some improvement (dying because you didn't follow your friend or you went a bit too far out of the zone? Bullshit!) but it has more rythm and the AI is better.

Games are meant for enjoyment and I don't see enjoyment in being paired with a complete noob and losing the game because of it. How and why the hell would have that infantry had any contact with that pilot. HQ told her where to go, not Blackburn. Maybe if he was calling in an airstrike at his location or some shit like that. But in this case, that line was just dumb, made no real sense and was a great example of bad writing imo.

i agree the passanger in a jet mission was boring but you could've done a better job lol, also i love the part later on outside the bank i think it was, there is an LPR in the window and when you shoot him another runs in his place, i sat there with my crosshair in one spot and killed around 150 soldiers

I was actually considering getting this game because of how much i liked bad company 2 but, if i'm just doing a bunch of scripted sequences then it wont at all be enjoyable for me i want to blow things up without being told to, which was why bad company was fun.

The main reason u cant run around alone is because this isnt Call of Duty. This is a teamplaying game and there really is no point in running away from your squad, going crazy and shooting for every direction. Imagine having a loon like that in your squad in a real war.All of a sudden Totalbiscuit is gone doing his own thing,shooting from your right and u don't know whether or not it's enemies firing at ya. Sure, might not be fun in a game where u cant run and gun. But it's what BF is loved for.

Well it wasn't as bright in the game because... notice how there's always presence of shit and dust on the guy's goggles. So it blocks out roughly 40% of the light. Very smart not to wipe it off. Ancient Chinese trick or something.

They should have looked at Crysis 2 more - Battlefield 3 Multi allows for many tactics - Crysis 2 SP does that too... To make the SP in the spirit of the MP (as they should have done)...

You do realise that BF3 is based on BF2 which had NO SINGLEPLAYER AT ALL. This is no Bad Company console rubbish, it's a 64 Player Multiplayer based game. That wouldn't be awesome - flying planes is extremely hard (at least for me), in over 50 hrs of gameplay i managed to get combined 50 plane points (with around 20k of heli points, i'm not using vehicles much), so it would made this mission IMPOSSIBLE to pass for me.
Acctually when the character was walking towards the plane i was praying that i won't have to fly. Fortunately i didn't.
