I lived and grew up in the projects here in Pgh. and I went back once and there was a trucking company there and all these big wharehouses. I also went back and visited my first school, Saint Philips, and a nun chased me out! (Just kidding.) We moved out in Oct. 1956. I can remember I was happy and also sad at the same time.

Sure, I went to bayside HS and we practised there i believe (track). So long ago(for me). The shopping center in the old days was was a big field full of weeds and frogs and birds. I remember when they started to build it. I still have relatives in Bay Terrace!
I liked how you ended your video Sam..you can't go home anymore. Kinda sad. I remember when I went back to where I grew up in the projects and there was a large trucking company there now. I couldn't even scoop up a handful of dirt, it was all concrete.lol
Thanks Sam .. I recently called a friend in my old hometown.. It's a suburbe of Chicago.. My last visit there was 1983.. My friend told me they closed down an Industrial Park and built a Scoccer Stadium.. Crazy, I thought.. He said that the stadium also holds music concets as well..
Right now I think I'd like to back at Chicago as todays temp in California was 112 degrees.. 109 in the shade..

We were both born in Melbourne, Australia but we spent a good few of our childhood years living in Holland and going to school there before flying back here again. My father is dutch although for the most part he has been living here for the last 30 years.

Listening to you talk about the big mall that was once a field you played in reminds me of where I grew up in SoCal. We had a whole bunch of lemon and orange groves near our house that we played in. Lots of fun. Now they've all been replaced by cookie-cutter homes. Oh well, have fun at 7-7-07 :)
All of Bayside was once "country"and people would summer there about a hundred years ago. It still had a small town flavor about 40 yrs ago, but my how it has chnged-for the worse. IMHO.
I guess about a decade or so. The actual town of Bayside has changed drastically, and the only store that has remained from the 1960's is the White Castle, but the burgers are 15 cents any more.
You are right on both accounts. I knew there would be many changes that I didn't want to deal with. I am a tradionalist, I guess but change is inevitable.

It was GREAT to see your tape!!! I lived at 1606 212th street until 1974. I went to PS 169 from K - 2nd grade. Brought back a lot of memories.
