shut up @bigshotism , you want crazy people running around norwich were people are growing families ? you crazy ? if you think this is a bad idea have em live with you you .
I find it absolutely disgusting how we let our state hospitals wither on the vine. They should be preserved as a testament to human cruelty. Under the guise of 'therapy,' hundreds of thousands of people have been stripped of their human dignity. State hospitals were not places were people 'got better.' People were systematically stripped of their human dignity and destroyed through barbaric treatments such as insulin coma, electroshock, lobotomy, and forced drugging with neuroleptics.
Amazing work for a high school documentary, guys. I'm impressed to see the kind of projects NFA kids can work on, it kind of makes me wish I had applied there rather than Woodstock. Be sure to keep in practice if you can, and keep making movies. Besides some stiff presentation, which will only go away with practice, and a silly music choice in the beginning, you're really working towards professional level stuff.
Great video. What a terrible waste of space. Rather then destroy it they ought to develope it in some form - If for nothing more then it's historical value. You did a wonderful job on this. Thanx.
now people wonder why so many people who arent criminals are in are jails peopele who werent fit to be in the ct commmunity some od years ago who thought they could do it no closing that hospital was a huge mistake
i feel we went too far these type of places are needed today, now we just throw them on the streets to fend for themselves, that is not good for the community nor the patient
The fact that this hospital was left to rot is nothing short of depressing. The fact that the Redevelopment Agency doesn't even care enough to fix up the place at least for educational/entertainment purposes is even worse. I've even tried to get their permission to film on the grounds to no success. How did you get permission?
I really hope that someone buys the property and does something to restore at least a shadow of the hospital's prior glory.
Why do they never turn places like this into museums? What better way to educate people about the treatment of people with mental health issues.
Trouble is that developers who buy places like this only see the value of the land and not the value that could be added to the community by restoring this place. *Sigh*
Not surprising many ended up in prison ...its a shame more focus isn't given to the root pathology of psychic illness, but at the same time I know "all" is going accordingly.
Three Rivers should have bought the place. It would cost a lot of money to fix up the buildings but the college wasn't originally named Mohegan Community College in idle fancy. Maybe TRCC should have upgraded into a dual-type college. There would be community college aspects for local students and live-in commodities for prospective students from other states. None of the buildings should be knocked down, make the officials that let it crumble pay for it.
i can not thank you enough for making this i have always been curious about the history of the hospital. i drive by it often.

For a bunch of Students to do this as a project, this is amazing. I suspect you will be scouted for this fine effort.

Wonderful video. It truly brings a sadness to see that such a beautiful place will be destroyed. An amazing part of history and it will be erased.
