I don't like morning doves that much because they chase away the cardinal, even the squirrel, and they eat until the seeds are practically gone, ...but watching this video photo composition of the mother with the chicks, and those black eyes! and the music makes me love them.
If you do find a baby bird: 1. Usually the mother IS around somewhere......2. If you DO rescue a baby bird, A. First check yellow pages/google for a bird rescue place. 3. If you try to save a baby bird, buy baby bird formula at a pet shop with eye dropper/syrenge and feed them as directed. (Usually about every 3-4 hours. Birds sleep through the night). A bird rescue place is preferred because they baby bird needs other birds to learn to gather food....and be a bird.
@CaptainPrivate . mine are on a airconditioner. this is the third year. they do the laying now and in sept here. the mom is leaving them alone for hours at night.. they do grow fast. and i can't ell which is the babies after they flew off. last time it seemed the mom abandoned them so they would attempt flying off on their own? it is tearfull to see them gone. :(. cherie. wi.
nice video. It normally takes14 to 16 days for the eggs to hatch. I'm breeding 2 different species of wild doves. The Eurasian collared doves, and the spotted turtle doves.
@cybercab Its Nt hopeless. Im just 15 and i found a Baby Mourning Dove outside and the mother was no-where around. It hurt its leg as well so its kinda limpy So i took it in and have been feeding it giving it water and made it a nice little nest in a box. I feed it little pieces of Bread or rice And it has grown Alot Ive had it for About 2 weeks now And its right here with me while im typin this(: Its So cute And i love it. And there is a certain way to feed it.
I've got a mourning dove family on my back porch, too. The eggs hatched this morning (15 days for one, 14 for the other since they were laid a day apart). Sooo tiny! How long were they around before they learned to fly and left the nest? Have there been more families there since?
@godsentangel1 well i took the baby and taught it all it needs and it fly and comes back everyday and comes to play with me winter i will put it back in its cage and let it go when summer comes around again
I heard they are going to try to clone passenger pigeons in the near future using mourning doves...i don't see how they can but this is what i read in a book written in 2004 about passenger pigeon extinction
I hadn't heard that though I've heard a lot of talk about cloning mammoths. They have semi-fresh ones in freezers. I'd pay $100 to see a live mammoth.
You should put the name of the tune you used in the video description so that people don't have to ask in the comments. (And I AM asking ;) ) Anyway, nice video :)
They are such peaceful birds...I love them so much. Yeah but theyre nests are like poo and they often build them in weird places. Thanks for posting this. It made my heart fill with.......umm......Candy Apples.
I like them alive too. They are really neat birds. My favorite birds are Roadrunners and Humming birds. I have a lot of dove and humming birds in my back yard. Here in Arizona they are everywhere. Gambel quail too. I wish I could see the roadrunner more often.
My favorite birds are Orange cheeked waxbills. They're around an inch long and have orange cheeks, brown eyes, white bellies, red right at the start of their tails and they're very cute.
I wish I could film humming birds but I don't have them here. Nowadays I film moose more than an other animals. The big snow ravens are pretty cool too.
this is like a memorial to doves with that sad music. More upbeat music is needed,, you are celebrating life.. this doesn't sound like it. Sounds like mourning. No pun intended.
I like the video. Mourning doves are my 2nd favorite bird, my first favorite are my pet birdies, and they come from Africa. They're finches, and the type of finch they are is orange cheeked waxbills, they're so cute, but they get scared of sudden loud noises or if you get too close to their cage. Thanks for posying
a coupl months ago or somethin like that i found a baby mourning dove outside so i brought it in so first we fed it some ground up bird seeds (didnt kno wut to give it) and then after a while he started eatin on its own. he started eating seeds that i feed my parakeets :) he pwns i like the cooing sound it makes in the mornin
i love mourning doves. Hopefully one day, i can nab a baby and raise it to an adult dove of my own. ive always wanted a pet morning dove since i was a kid. i love hearing their mournful cooing early in the morning.
6V92TA: Coming from someone who has rehabbed a LOT of wild birds, doves are -very- difficult to hand-raise (you could very easily drown them even if you know what you're doing).
Besides, "nabbing a baby" just to raise it is not only cruel and a bad idea, but against the law in most states.
If you like hearing their coo in the morning, I suggest just luring wild doves to your property with places to nest and food, and listen to them in their natural habitat.
My ornithology prof. says that mourning doves lay eggs ~every month, 'cause they're such poor nest builders (lots of gaps in the twigs, so babies fall out). I've got some that nest in an old hanging basket and once their babies left the nest, the parents laid more eggs within a week and now have more babies!! What a life!
I currently have a mother Mourning Dove buliding a nest in my flower pot that hangs over my balcony. She comes back every single year to the exact same one and lays her two eggs. It's so cute!!
Cybercab, you'll never believe it! yesterday I posted saying that I'd like a mourning dove, and THAT AFTERNOON we found a baby in my brother's room! Our cat must've brought it in-- it has a lame leg, but is doing well. I'd guess it's about 2 weeks old-- so cute!
Isn't that weird, and just yesterday I bought a birdcage "just in case".. !
I love mourning doves. I like blu jays, cardinals and other colorful birds but i love the way they sing. They have a distinctive look and feel. My dad installed a spotlight on my house under the roof and a few days later a mourning dove made a nest there. It had 2 eggs and i watched them groe up. I was the reason they had their first flight. I opened the window to look at them then they both flew away. Now... the mom has had 2 more eggs!
Thanks. Yes they were alive and well last time I saw them. One night after work I went out to photograph them as usually. Normally, the mother would fly off and I'd photograph the babies, but one day they all few off. I have doves out there again this year but no nests.

We experienced a few years back
how adaptable mourning doves are
with humans. We were able to capture
via webcam and camera the building of the nest,
the birth of their squabs and the final flight into adulthood.
A priceless experience for us also!
