The fight will be won once people decide to start educating themselves on the issues. I think it's two-fold, some parts of the country aren't ready and other parts are simply spreading lies and false information to perpetuate discrimination against gays. Well meaning people are voting no on civil rights issues because they don't know any better and are severely uninformed. When religion gets out of the equation we can start seeing real progress.
Well...I think we also have OTHER battles to win FIRST before the country is really ready for same-sex marriage...I am hoping that we can learn from this that the country isn't quite ready and we will spend our valuable dollars in other fights for basic civil rights for all LGBTQ people FIRST then re-attack the same sex marriage issue at a time when the country is more ready. Just my opinion.
I live in PA and am also saddened by this loss. Hopefully things in the North East will come around but thankfully there are still many more open minds here than in the south (where I used to live).
like you said eventually the old people will be gone, and the generation. that is coming up noww ..willl make it easier for maine..and other states too... We have to continue to fight ..I still think we have come along way. even there are steppin stones. we have come along way. The south, never has come close to the percentage as Maine. Its worse here. Peace Ang!

Pretty sad, indeed. Meanwhile Canada has had it since 2005, and conservatives have the nerve to say America is the freest country on Earth.
