  • LOVE that sound!

  • @jttb011 You could not have put it in a better way! Yay for katydids!

  • Love, love, love!!! Thank you so much for posting! It's those balmy georgia summer nights! Wow. I thought I was the only one who got attached to the sound! A lullaby for me! Lol!

  • @clairebear0713 So glad you viewed the vid and liked it! I am looking forward to hearing those sounds again later this year!!!!

  • You described the exact memory I was looking for here on youtube. A hot summer night in Georgia--even back when I was young I knew it was precious. I've held on to it all my life, and it's still so real when I recall it. Truly an irreplaceable experience on the verge of extinction.

  • @jttb011 I am glad you enjoyed hearing the sounds. They are wonderful...:-) Thanks for viewing and commenting.

  • The bugs are called Katydid's, I hear them at my Dad's place down there in Georgia every Summer when I visit him.

  • I am new to Georgia from California, and I have to say, the summer sounds are my favorite thing!!

  • thats crazy...you perfectly described the way i feel about the noise of the cicadas...i dont know what it is about it but if i live anywhere else other than georgia (or the south), i will miss it so much

  • unless I'm missing something what is making the sound? I thought it was cicadas but it's different than any that I have heard.

  • Finally found out what that was. Thanks so much!

  • COOL! Glad to help. :-)

  • @SunWarmed what is it? I hear this but don't know what it is? Crickets?

  • Im from a little town called Jasper, don't blink you'll miss it kinda place. Now im the only one in central illinois who has the right accent. HA! I still cook like Paula Deen but I have to send home for some things they just don't have up here. I still miss home but im adjusting.(If I say it enough it will happen right?) The people who live next door have just found the joys of southern cooking after a snide comment or two. They didn't know you could make buttermilk cornbread. Education started

  • I am familiar with Jasper, GA. I live in Gainesville. So glad you're cooking Southern cuisine in Illinois...:-)....Buttermilk Cornbread sounds WONDERFUL......Hope to hear from you soon.

  • Thank you so much for those sounds. Im a north ga girl who moved to the north and I miss home so bad it hurts! Find out how to video southern cooking and you will be my hero.

  • I am so, very glad you stopped by and viewed....and commented! You can view the video ANYTIME...to hear the sounds....Where did you live in North Georgia? Where are you now? SOUTHERN COOKING??? I am attempting to learn that...My Mom cooks GREAT FOOD....I miss my maternal grandparents....They both could COOK!!!!! Have a great week.

    Ronnie

  • hey tommy30507 what camera did you record this with?????

  • I used my Sony Handycam. Since it was night time I shot the video using the NIGHTSHOT PLUS option.....Hope that helped you....Have a great week.

  • i bought the handy cam same model as yours new do you think thats good buy i will mostly use it in low light situation ??

  • Well, I am not a camera expert. I am pleased with my camera. You will need to experiment with the light situation.....I wish I had professional answers for you....Just learning as I go....:-)

  • do i need the docking station for the Sony DCR-SR42 in order upload videos to my computer or charge it please answer????

  • I use the docking station to upload videos to my computer and to charge the battery.

  • do i need the docking station for the Sony DCR-SR42 in order upload videos to my computer or charge it please answer???? because i did not order the docking station

  • My camera cam with a small accessory that attaches to my camera when I am ready to download vids to my computer....Also, when I am ready to charge the battery.

  • we have a bug (I've always called them locus but I don't know what it is for sure.. I guess I could google but who cares hehehe) well this bug makes a noise like that but you will have one or two playing.. Not the whole brass section..if you go out to the desert where there aren't any trees you will not even have bird sounds.. I'll have to go film the sounds of summer here for you soon :)

    Nota

  • That bug sounds interesting. If you decide to make that video, I will be HAPPY to view it!

  • What a noise... I went to the mid west one summer and the "green" hurt my eyes , so much color.. now so much noise.. I don't think I'd be able to sleep much there :)

  • Nota,

You remind me of Georgia O'Keeffe when you talk about the "green"...That was her feeling, too. Well, I really cannot explain the feeling the "noise" gives one out here. It is very soothing and relaxing. It lulls folks to sleep...Believe it or not...During the Winter I miss the sound SO MUCH!!!!!!

    Ronnie

  • o.m. GODDESS!!!!!

i SHiT you not, not more than a week ago i did an online search for cicada sounds, came up with NONE....this is the sound i grew up with in iowa, and i miss it....DEARLY.

thank you for this, i'm adding it to my faves!

  • I am SO GLAD you found the video! HAPPY YOU got a chance to hear the cicadas! They are wonderful. I hope you get to hear them again, SOON!!!! Thank you for viewing and commenting!

    :-)

    Ronnie

  • What a wild sound!

One of the functions of nature is entertainment, I'm convinced.

  • I am convinced, also. Glad you viewed and commented.

  • Very cool video! Great Summer noises!

Kinda had that Blair Witch thing goin' there though!

  • Matt,

Thanks for stopping by! It's good to hear from you. Hope you're well. The Summer noises are GREAT. I have been wanting to do my own Blair Witch video...Just a short one...Even though I have NEVER seen the movie (have no desire, lol....The only scene I am familiar with is the girl's close-up snotty nose crying face....I think I should do it soon.

    Ronnie

  • Doin' great, Ronnie! Hope you are too!

I'd like to see your version! But really I think unless you're in film school or are a psychological horror movie buff already then you've pretty much seen enough to go on just from that clip!

It's worth watching from a filmmaking standpoint though because it's a well-made low budget movie that's worth studying for some specific tips and gimmicks...but there are plenty of other lo-fi indie flix out there just as good or better!

  • Gotta love it!!!

    Love Ya, Tubeskanke

    The queen of all Trash!

  • I do love that sound!!!!

  • I've only heard one or two cicadas this year! Normally, our yard is deafening too! Also, the bullfrog is gone this summer... boo! But thanks for letting me hear! It must be because y'all have had rain (we have not!)

  • I know you miss the bullfrog. I hope you have MORE cicadas, soon!

  • It's really remarkable. I don't think I've ever heard those sounds before. Do you have fire flies in Georgia? I saw fire flies once when I visited my brother in Pennsylvania.

  • Valerie,

The sound is awesome. I am sure you won't believe me, but the sound will lure you to sleep at night...Fire Flies? Yes. We call them Lightening Bugs...I love them.

    Ronnie

  • I think those are cicadas. I remember the sounds outside my bedroom window at night with the windows open. We didn't have air conditioning, so every night was like camping:)

  • Sue, I've NEVER known for sure what the creatures were called. I've heard so many things through the years. They're loud tonight, too. HEY, GUESS WHAT? I got another phone. LOL. I have not started using it, yet.

Hope your family reunion is going well.

    Ronnie

  • That really was fun! I hear them in my backyard too. But I have been camping before where they got so loud as to hurt your ears! Sort of like a Steven King movie :^)

  • Greg, I know what you mean. The sounds can get PRETTY LOUD!!!! Still, the noise is WONDERFUL....Enjoy them while Summer is here.

    Ronnie

  • God, I miss that sound! And lightening bugs. I miss my childhood...waaaaa

  • Now, what area of the South are you from originally? (Glad that you stopped by and viewed and commented).

    Ronnie

  • Out in the country in West TN and out in the country in West KY. Till we moved to Nashville.

  • Cool. Thank you for sharing this. I had wondered. Hope you have a great day.

  • Tommy, This is SO FUNNY!!! Just last night, I was sitting in my (Florida) house with the windows open and the noise of all the creatures was so interesting. I was thinking of doing a video about it. Then I woke up to see this video! Great minds think alike!! :-)

  • I am SO HAPPY you viewed and commented! PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO featuring the sounds, etc. DO IT YOUR WAY!!!! I would LOVE to see the video...MANY OTHERS would, also.

    Ronnie

  • I am still looking for your video! Hope you're well!!!!

    Ronnie (tommy30507)

  • yea! computer working again. and yes, memories. crickets and cicadas..ahh yes

  • Diana,

Glad to hear from you! Actually, my computer is still CRAZY...I am discovering different ways to get into it...:-)

As for the Summertime sounds...SO NICE.....

  • Ronnie,

What sort of animal is making that sound? It is fairly loud. Does it keep you awake at night?

  • James,

I wish you hadn't asked me the name of the bug. LOL. I have never known for certain...They live in the trees and really go wild at night in Summer. The noise is LOUD...You would not believe how WONDERFULLY peaceful the sound is. It will put you to sleep at night...If one does not use an air conditioner and opens the windows at night...

    Ronnie

  • James,

One of the names I have heard the insects called is "CICADAS"...Other folks who have commented have called them that..I have heard that through the years....WHO KNOWS?????

    lol

  • Yep you're right Ronnie. That brings back memories of childhood. Sherron I can remember chasing those lightening bugs and putting them in a jar also. LOL Thanks for stirring up fun memories for all of us Ronnie. -Jim

  • Jim,

I remember the lightening bugs in jars....FUN. Thinking back to lazy Southern days and nights...GOOD MEMORIES....

  • Makes me think about chasing lightening bugs! These sounds are sooo peaceful!

  • Yeah, lightening bugs!!! What fun. How beautiful, too. I miss those days. The sounds are like therapy to us...Healing!

  • I miss them too! Wish we could just go back to the old ways, don't you?

  • For sure!

  • Check your e-mail :)

  • Yup sounds just like my back yard

  • It's great! Isn't it? I LOVE IT! One of my favorite things ever!
