j ai vu le reportage et ce qui ma choquer c est un vieux qui disait qu il etait l homme le plus heureux du monde après la mort de LUNA,ce vieux me dégoute pour rester poli,elle demandait juste un peu de tendresse je suis vraiment navrer pour LUNA, il y a beaucoup de gens qui doivent avoir des regrets la bas pour leur comportements!!!!

Sad. I would have run over Luna with a flimsy trolling prop on "accident" and hurt her a little, but then jumped in the water and comfort her and address her minor wounds.

Why? Because some one needed to teach her what fire feels like, and not by running her over with a powerful motor. It would be the toughest thing I would do, but I would do it.

i think this orca is a beautiful animal and to have played with humans they way it did is just somthing of beauty the lucky ones who got to see this orca should cherish it. animals should be left in the wild and it be there choice with reguards to communicating with humans

i'm sure the experience people had with Luna will be a life time memory but honestly he should of been rejoined with other orca's .Sad but the selfishness of humans is why he's dead. Luna apparently learned to think it was safe to go by boats.:(

@Andysangelkf she was a killer whale separated from her pod when she was a baby. without a family, she decided to play with humans. She taught our species about the fine line between wild animals and human beings. She lived a good 6 1/2 years before she was killed by a tugboat's propellers. RIP!

I am really starting to get bothered I can't get my hands on this video anywhere when its 3 ficken years old. Sure I am grateful it was made but to not release it on video and instead choose to go parading around selling screening rights to theatres still willing to pay is wrong. They could have been making a new orca film on the southern resident pods where he came from while including info on the not so long ago tragic and nothing known of the death of his mother and brother .

Why did the Tugboat not slow down? They would have known about Lunas personality, and should have slowed down.

Perhaps this wasn't the 'accident' it was made out to be...

Poor Luna. He experienced the loving side of us humans, and returned us with his love as thanks. But he also witnessed the unloving side of our species...

Perhaps oneday we will be free of the psychological discord that afflicts our minds, and we can each be as free as Luna. One with nature.

I agree. The same day I watched the Luna Film, I smited the company for doing what they did. Within hours of my comments. A whale killed it trainer. Who says they don't have a sole. They sure speak to our God. And its not over Yet.

apparently the tug boat was idling in stormy conditions. as in, stopped, but keeping itself from being taken by the tide. the propellers were very strong, so it was unfortunate. but i agree, more should have been done earlier. poor Luna R.I.P.

@l337z0r The General Jackson was a rather large tug, twin screws I think, so it was rather hard to notice a small whale I think. Luna was only probably 4-5 years old when he died.

Luna died? I read his story online a long time ago but the artical stopped being updated...so I never found out what happened. Poor Luna, I was hoping he'd be like Springer and be successfully reunited with his pod.... :(

well they didn't intentionally kill him. i'm pretty sure it was just an accident. he was killed by the propellers of a boat. the boat didn't' mean to kill him, but because he was so used to people, he was not longer afraid or hesitant to get close to boats :(

and yes, it is illegal to kill whales in America

The General Jackson was a large service tug, and luna probably was underneath, so there was no way they could have seen him/avoided contact with him. If you watch the documentary "saving Luna" the original radio call to tofino coast guard is on there from the general jackson.

That man was pleased, the 'son of a bitch' as somone referrred to him, was dead and he even laughed. Luna had been swimming safely right at the side of boats/ships for four years. He knew how to be safe around boats.

Just for the record, it was the tourists that flocked to Gold River, that were harassing Luna...the towns people, for the most part were trying to reunite him with his family...the government got in the way...as usual...thanks for caring...

People ruined him, at that point he would never go back home. Maybe bringing him to SeaWorld would be the right thing to do, or even better, just put him in a seapen or something for the time being, because of his attachment to people, he was killed.

He was killed by the people who loved him. By feeding him, he just hung around, never to return to his family, and be in danger of the constant boat traffic.

Luna, or L98 was a wild orca that literally became a pet. People treated him like a puppy, instead of leaving him alone. Luna never would have died if he had been successfully rehabilitated without humans interfereing. I am from the area, and I am familiar with what people did to him. Fed him like a seagull.

This is such a blind statement. The fisheries department in BC was directly responsible for killing Luna. They knew where his pod was, and they implemented fines for interacting with the whale...yet they didn't pony up when it came to actually finding the solution. If you are from the area, maybe you should have gone outside or read the newspaper once in a while. All they had to do was move him.
