Therealanimale: Interesting that you mention the atmosphere that this music captures. For me this type of music has a soothing yet energizing effect, whereas a lot of black music today such as R&B does the complete opposite for me.
There was a lot more attention to detail in the musical production stage and the arrangements sound classy. Even though a lot of black music in the 80s was electronic, using drum machines and synths, it still had soul.
Exactly. And that soul had everything to do with the human feel that was put in to the recordings. Becaurse of the limitations in the electronic equipment back then (not too much digital cut ups and perfection (which takes the soul out of recording mostly), the analogue recording instead of digital and the fact many records, even the digital ones, still had some kind of acoustic instrument playing along somewhere.
@Therealanimale Defo right mate. I think the early 80's up to around 1984 produced songs from classic long standing bands. The last 6 years, everyone was jumping onto the bandwagon bring out utter tosh. 1980-82 was the best in my opinion. Tony Blackburn has a lot to answer for!
@CiaranOD67@CiaranOD67 Agree with u on the best parts of music in the 80's was from '80 to '84. It all had to do with an important invention of MIDI (musical instrument digital interface), which allowed keyboards, drumcomputers etc. to lock and sync.
In these years, the integration of electronics was a fact. But there was always a human feel also. The rest of the 80's..would not call it utter tosh. It remained producing jewels of classics, but not in that extent of the first half of the 80's.
wowowowow!!! love this track, nice memories, thx for upload this one!

Oliver Cheatham sure made his mark with 'Saturday Night: . I mean..the title is an icon on it's own..
And it was refreshed not so long ago...in dancable track which was not in any way better than the fantastic original, in my opinion.
Now I remember this one...but did not heard it much...made in the second half of the 80's which was different from the first half..
It immediately convinces me still..
For one, by the atmosphere these kinds of records have captured in them.
