Considering of what lions are etc. I'd say a territorial marker would be far more likely as that's actually in a lion's "vocabulary".
And yeah, it seems like many humans are having a hard time telling reality from fiction. But at the same time they cannot say what makes their holy book different from say Harry Potter.

It wasn't a threatening sound as in, your my lunch. The keeper described it as making us aware its his home and a warning to leave ^.- How did they even make this assumption? Why would this matter to the organism at all? The way this is done is constant. Little hairs in your eyes detect soundwaves like reeds move with the water in rivers. This is nothing fancy either.
