  • i LOVE that intro!!

  • The picture is of the Benny Goodman Trio...not The Fletcher Henderson Orchestra on this recording. The Goodman connection is: Fletcher gave up bandleading to become pianist/arranger for Goodman. Because of this, Goodman aquired the entire Fletcher Henderson library of arrangements.

The BG Trio pictured is Teddy Wilson on vibes, Gene Krupa on drums, and Benny on clarinet.

  • @deancook652 Thank you for the details!

  • i'm listenining and this is the best Valentine's day..I've every had....this was before my time...but I feel like I was there.

  • Yeah the drummer is Gene Krupa.

  • Teddy Wilson on piano,Benny Goodman on clarinet, Lionel Hampton on Vibes and I can't think of the drummers name. Fletcher Henderson arrangement.

Hope you enjoy the class and the music.

  • @hendelr1 drummer=Gene krupa?

  • Why is there a pic of Benny G on here?

  • The solos here are Hilton Jefferson alto, and Red Allen tpt W/Buster Bailey cl. I believe this is John Kirby on bass from 1934

  • what year is this? war time?

  • 30s

  • I concur. I used to have a Smithsomian jazz collection from a jazz history class I took. This is exactly the recording (solos are a giveaway) that the Smithsonian said was Fletcher Henderson's orchestra....the REAL King of Swing (not to take away from Benny, but Fletch created the sound, as noted here).

  • Y'all are RIGHT - This IS Smack and His Band doing this, not Benny!

  • its not Bennie Goodman , Fletcher Hendreson

  • thats FLETCHER HENDERSON!!

  • @hep2jive - And in a very good sound restoration from the early high fidelity 1934 Decca recording - My guess is that this was taken off the recent MCA CD reissue, which was done quite well.

  • This is really Fletch!!

  • This is NOT Benny Goodman's band, but that of Fletcher Henderson.

  • What a complex arrangement. The band must have spent hours rehearsing to get it this tight. Oddly enough, it sounds closer to Jimmy Lunceford than BG.

  • Oh yeah!!!!!! Benny Goodman........a gift from the Lord to us earthlings.

It do not get any better than this.

Is it coming through that I dig this man?

  • Who uploaded this version and when? The one uploaded by Vinylrpm on 1/28/08 features a fine

BG solo missing from this one. If this is a Henderson arrangement who did the other harder driving one?

  • nice!

  • awesome!!!!!!!! gotta love that swing era

  • @joseluis8585 When music was music....O Yea
