There were 3 versions in total, and in the end instead of being assigned to the tank company of the germans it was in the artillery company (Self propelled guns).
The versions included a Tank destroyer version with a powerful AT gun, a self propelled artillery version, for a close range arty, and a infantry support version.
The one in the COH is the infantry support. The weakest of the 3, especially vs tanks.

hehe, remember when i played eastern front, used the ISU-152. It could almost 1 shot the panther when face-to-face. But the pather could drive around it almost twice as fast as my tank could turn... Solved it by bringing a anti-infantry vehicle :D

And during 1944 germans are in defensive , it have camo or what and the vehicle not even need to move , imagine how a stug offensive , it will had the same fate
@7511232 rule number one for WW2 tanks, do not move and shoot, the chances of hitting the target is greatly reduced, German Forces were prohibited from firing on the move for this very reason.
However, having a turret it advantageous because it allows you to track a target with more ease than having to pirouette and obviously makes you less noticeable as no diesel fumes will gush into the air
On the flip side, having an assault tank allows you to put more armour on the glacis plate

@7511232 That is not strictly true. The first stugs were infantry support vehicles however the later ones such as the one shown were intended for AT use, as they were quicker to produce, harder to hit and easier to camoflauge than the Panzer 4s
Sherman actually had a tough time destroying German tanks.
When the Americans invaded Italy (my country) they've been stopped in Cassino by German paratroopers and some Stugs for a long time, probably thanks to the fact that by bombing the town the Americans turned it into a perfect place to fight on the defensive..
Interesting note: two of those Stugs have been destroyed by a company of "nisei" soldiers.
Then there's the villers bocage battle where 1 tiger destroyed 21 tanks and more veichles.

I'm not really a die-hard fan of it but it is the only RTS that i play since im more a FPS player. But Judging from the videos that i saw on YT, MoW does look to have some realism in it.

Stugs are a very dangerous weapon. That's one thing that doesn't impress me with games like this is it takes so many hits to stop a tank, yet on all actuallity a shell from virtually all Stugs would tear through a Sherman like a hot knife through butter
A stug should not try to outmanouver a tank. It should go backwards as soon as a tank appears, aim and destroy it. In this vid it is possible to see, how not to use a stug, not how to beat it with a sherman. If properly used, a stug is very deadly.

actualy your wrong. Shermens in WW2 were americans best tanks. The Pershing was ONE of the best bcouse 1 - he was weak in terms of e.g tiger hitting him. 2 - he didnt have eny close combat defence like 30 cal to protect it from foot soldiers , so it was prety easy to take it out.
the pershing was great in the anti-infantry role. it had a hull MG and a turret MG, both .30 cals. Only one pershing was lost due in combat, and it wasnt to a tiger, it was an assualt gun(I forget which kind). And anyway the pershing had better armor and a bigger gun than all models of the sherman but the fireflies. the pershing was made to REPLACE the outdated and casualty-prone sherman tanks, but the war ended before they could be as effective as they could.the pershing had more horsepower,too
actually, now that I have looked it up, the pershing had 3 browning machine guns, and a main gun of 90mm, two mm larger than the tiger I's gun. for a heavy tank, It traveled a whopping 25 miles per hour, and had a range of 100 miles, about the same as the m2 sherman. the sherman had a c1 gasoline driven engine, which was highly flamable, and because of this, the whermact gave the sherman the nickname "tommy cooker." because a single shot would burn the crew if it penatrated (only 60mm of armor)
Actually the real danger was the sherman's ammunition cooking off inside the hull when it caught on fire. People forget that most of Germany's tanks were gasoline powered too.

The Sherman is actually only used in CoH 1vs1s if you dominate the early game and can get them out almost faster than Wehr t2 units.
The Sherman was a stronger unit 3 years ago ^^ but it's pretty weak today, and it's primary use now is as a shock unit and to take out infantry and light vehicles, or supporting AT guns.
So the Sherman "sucks ass" in both RL and CoH, but the Stug sucks too. :p BTW: This vid' is of the best 1v1 CoH player atm outmicroing some poor noob :p
Shermans suck in both the game and in the war, the only reason they were good at all was because we could produce them so fast. Unlike the far superior pnathers and tigers which took weeks to build instead of a day.
the sherman did suck ass in the real war it had low armor not long range and died alot. Plus 1-2 shots sucks you have to shoot a tiger at least 8 times with two shermans to kill it but by then they'd be dead

If I recall the Stug was well able to penetrate the Shermans armor, frontaly or from the sides. For gameplay balance the sherman was beefed up tremendusly, far beond its realistic ability.
The sherman would most likely go 'Boom' after getting hit once or twice in the sides, frontaly it could survive maybe 3-4 shots at max. (As armor gets hit more it becomes brittle, which eventuly makes it useless)
This is a very classic example of how to uterlize speed and mobility to win.
Pretty much any hit may have taken out a sherman due to the fact that a single piece of loose shrapnel could've lit the fuel tanks up (yay Gas engines)

I'm not really a die-hard fan of it but it is the only RTS that i play since im more a FPS player. But Judging from the videos that i saw on YT, MoW does look to have some realism in it.

take that u stupid forward firing guns. i have a game called No Surrender, tanks can be dug into sandbag barriers where they cant move and and u can sneak up behind jadpanthers,jadtigers,stugs and disable the tracks and the AI will abandon it so u can kill the crew and take it. its funny , any ol squad of infantry can over take a tank. u can even take out a group of tigers with a couple a flamethrowar units. btw, does CoH have strumtigers?

Stugs are a very dangerous weapon. That's one thing that doesn't impress me with games like this is it takes so many hits to stop a tank, yet on all actuallity a shell from virtually all Stugs would tear through a Sherman like a hot knife through butter

A stug should not try to outmanouver a tank. It should go backwards as soon as a tank appears, aim and destroy it. In this vid it is possible to see, how not to use a stug, not how to beat it with a sherman. If properly used, a stug is very deadly.

in the game, the tank-fights are not really realistic... sry but have to say it so... in real a tiger only need 1 shot to blow a sherman to pieces, and it doesnt matter from which distance (long, midd or near) i know this because my grandfather was the driver of tiger-tank no. 217 of 3rd schwere-panzerabteilung 104 (heavy-tank force 104) they shoot 3 shermans and a cromwell during their raid in normandy. and it was luck they didn´t died because they had no fuel and couldn´t get some more.

the pershing was great in the anti-infantry role. it had a hull MG and a turret MG, both .30 cals. Only one pershing was lost due in combat, and it wasnt to a tiger, it was an assualt gun(I forget which kind). And anyway the pershing had better armor and a bigger gun than all models of the sherman but the fireflies. the pershing was made to REPLACE the outdated and casualty-prone sherman tanks, but the war ended before they could be as effective as they could.the pershing had more horsepower,too

actually, now that I have looked it up, the pershing had 3 browning machine guns, and a main gun of 90mm, two mm larger than the tiger I's gun. for a heavy tank, It traveled a whopping 25 miles per hour, and had a range of 100 miles, about the same as the m2 sherman. the sherman had a c1 gasoline driven engine, which was highly flamable, and because of this, the whermact gave the sherman the nickname "tommy cooker." because a single shot would burn the crew if it penatrated (only 60mm of armor)

Actually the real danger was the sherman's ammunition cooking off inside the hull when it caught on fire. People forget that most of Germany's tanks were gasoline powered too.

the only, and I mean ONLY advantages the sherman had was that its parts were easily replacable, It was easy to produce, It was easy to repair(the engine was similar to the ones in car of the day, a v8 engine) and over 50,000 were made.
In terms of technology, the pershing is FAR ahead of the sherman.

@XxAncientxXX m26 never saw footage in ww2, i dont even think it managed to serve in korea, it was an experiment that never saw battle experience. so basically the sherman was the better tank of the war, because for one thing it actually was there to begin with, was cheap to produce, and was effective for its cost.

Still, if it came to maneuverability and speed, it would probably make more sense to choose a tank destroyer like the M18 Hellcat which could go up to 60 mph. Really it all depends on the situation. If there truly was a tank that was better than all others, there would be no need for any of the others.

The Sherman is actually only used in CoH 1vs1s if you dominate the early game and can get them out almost faster than Wehr t2 units.
The Sherman was a stronger unit 3 years ago ^^ but it's pretty weak today, and it's primary use now is as a shock unit and to take out infantry and light vehicles, or supporting AT guns.
So the Sherman "sucks ass" in both RL and CoH, but the Stug sucks too. :p BTW: This vid' is of the best 1v1 CoH player atm outmicroing some poor noob :p

If I recall the Stug was well able to penetrate the Shermans armor, frontaly or from the sides. For gameplay balance the sherman was beefed up tremendusly, far beond its realistic ability.
The sherman would most likely go 'Boom' after getting hit once or twice in the sides, frontaly it could survive maybe 3-4 shots at max. (As armor gets hit more it becomes brittle, which eventuly makes it useless)
This is a very classic example of how to uterlize speed and mobility to win.

Pretty much any hit may have taken out a sherman due to the fact that a single piece of loose shrapnel could've lit the fuel tanks up (yay Gas engines)
