and I get great framerates...

that was when I had a Celeron D (356 OC'd to 3.75GHz)

but I've upgraded to my Core 2 Quad, but not much better strangely, I think it only uses 2 of the cores... :(

Never had a problem with COD4 on my 3850(256 mb).

I play 1440x900 at max settings and can get 90-110 fps depending if I use the ATI software that lets you overclock the card. I don't even need that many fps since my monitor is only has a refresh rate of 60hrz.

Pound for pound, the 3800's were better than the 8800's. Cheaper, less power, less heat, less noise, and the thing performed. The added bonus for me was that the 3850 was a single slot.

AA is anti-aliasing. You should play at low-medium. If you get 28+ frames on High then play on high.

Two things, probably ur processor isn't that great. HL2 uses multicore cpu's to work faster. Anothe thing is your mobo could not be PCI 2.0 x16, slowing down ur gpu's. and maybe ur mobo doesn't support crossfire.

3850 core clock speed = 670MHz

3870 coreclock speed = 775MHz

3850 memory clock speed = 1.66GHz

3870 memory clock speed = 2.25GHz

3850 math processing rate(multiply-add) = 428 GigaFLOPS

3870 math processing rate(multiply-add0 = 487 GigaFLOPS. either way u cant go wrong with both of these GPU hope this helped...
