the water level was at the maximum it could be, so when it started to rain for 48 hours non stop, it pasted the maximum level so they had to open the canal locks and the dams to lower it. the panama canal was close for i think 24 hours due to the amount of water coming out of the rivers, because they were pushing the ships to change direction and it could have made a ship run aground
Just to clarify: the bridge is NOT moving, that's LAND moving on the water.
The Panama canal was overflowing so they opened the flood gates in the Chagres' damn.
This is real, I know the people who filmed this and I live near to were this happened, we've had next to non stop rain(Execpt suprisingly the last two weekedns) and the way its' going it's not getting any better.
It's supposed to be dry season right now, what the heck is going on?
@TheSicknessSwine In the newspaper they mentioned this video and said what we are seeing here is a huge build up of trash. Over the years plants started to grow on trash in the lake, and during the floods the island broke loose.
If it were land I'm pretty sure it would would just sink. You could call this, "Coke Bottle Island."
@halfthrottle the mass of vegetation seen in the video is the fresh water equivalent of seaweed. the plant floats on the water and is barely tethered to the ground. it grows up the river and the large amounts of water released by the ACP caused the roots to come out of the ground sending masses that have been growing and tangling for long enough to sustain medium sized trees down the river into the canal

Sldos.

But the strangest thing about it is that we're supposed to be entering the dry season, nobody expected rain like this by this time of year... Hello, climate change.
@WeirdTree its not climate change you idiot all these stupid politicians brain washed your ass into fearing nature itself. Cant you just fucking get thats its nature it happens.Let me guess your response to this comment would probably be no no no its climate change we did it right. you fucking loser!
@IWearMyCapBackwards Actually there is a high chance that you're right and that climate change is a hoax. Imperialism is bound to deceive people. But you know, it made me uncomfortable that you called me a fucking loser... you could have said it politely and i still would've understood your point. Nevertheless, i understand you, sometimes i feel like calling people "fucking losers" too when they ignore something.
@ttdservice not to sound rude or anything but you speak ignorance all over, gringo lover. when it comes to mother nature there is nothing man can do. people who work in the panama canal doing the job of gathering those branches and stuff have been doing it before the gringos left in 99 so they know what they're doing. they are trainned specialists in theyre jobs. so before you speak be sure to know what you are tlaking about, even if the gringos were there yesterday there couldnt stand a chance
@moyqw you are correct we cannot control mother nature. but do not blame mother nature when it is not her fault. we should wait to see the rain index for this month to show you that there is no drastic increase in rainfall this month compared to the highest rainfall in the past 96 years.
The first one occurred into 1915, there was a mudslide around Culebra Cut and the Canal had to shut down for 8 months.
Like someone mentioned, no one can control the weather but a lot of the things that are happening such as the flooding and a lot of the mudslides could have been prevented; Example: Colon is flooded because the Panamanian government is doing nothing about the drainage system.
@ttdservice bueno... si ha llovido mas fuerte que la semana pasada... pero adivina que... no en diciembre... porque usualmente en Panama no llueve tanto para estas epocas... oh... another thing ttdservice... you want Americans to come back... where in the world geography you studied that Panama isn't part of America???
i studied world geography that says that the united states was willing to help defend panama when she gained her independence from columbia. the US lent panama their currency and developed the canal zone oh and one of the wonders of the world. both countries benefited in some way.
now panamanians are proud that the americans are gone, pero, porque?
@ttdservice but I insist... in which continent PANAMA is located??? I still don't understand... according to the MAP, Panama is located in America... doesn't this make us AMERICAN also??? This is the point which I don't understand from all your comments.
Ok, US lent us their currency, developed the canal zone, and etc. but we proud of being Panamenian. Of course, changing the current currency using in Panama, won't help,
@danielngho listen Panama is located in Central America (its in the middle of North America and South America)its a subcontinent and you are not the only americans, its also south america, Canada and Central America
Sincerely, stop discussing about this and tell your town to teach in the school about other countries too.
@juanfe98rain hmh... I'm just clarifying about AMERICANS... not sure if you are from Panama, but seems the ttdservice isn't... So you think north americans coming back to Panama will be able to FIX the weather... good... US isn't GOD which they want to play as they were... So what do you understand as ASIAN? Chinese? well yeah... because people like ttdservice not sure about you will not differ Korean, Chinese, and Japanese... Hahaha....
@ttdservice but we should be able to do everything as US done before with the Canal Zone, but we just have and had president that doesn't do anything more than only take money from us. As US said, if Panama can't manage the Canal, then they'll come back and take it, which they are in their rights to do it, since everything, and what I mean everything is, engineers, machinery, building materials was brought from them, and build the Canal...
@allegrafuct central america is not even a continent. it is a region that makes up a part of north america. and like i said, panama is part of north america.
Yes, but they were floating small islands with branches where people used to go with boats and have a nice day an enjoy the water skiing. It is not garbage...they are floating islands! If people does not know the area, should not comment.
wow WTF that looked like lots of ground on the move tell me are they raising the water level??? and what do you mean gone? flooded or just temp? se fues ?

@WeirdTree Climate change? So all unusual weather is now climate change? I thought weather != climate? Fucktard.

@WeirdTree its not climate change you idiot all these stupid politicians brain washed your ass into fearing nature itself. Cant you just fucking get thats its nature it happens.Let me guess your response to this comment would probably be no no no its climate change we did it right. you fucking loser!
IWearMyCapBackwards 1 year ago
@IWearMyCapBackwards Actually there is a high chance that you're right and that climate change is a hoax. Imperialism is bound to deceive people. But you know, it made me uncomfortable that you called me a fucking loser... you could have said it politely and i still would've understood your point. Nevertheless, i understand you, sometimes i feel like calling people "fucking losers" too when they ignore something.

a sad day in canal history..
gatun lake is forever changed, and all due to the incompetence of those left behind to operate and maintain it.

@moyqw you are correct we cannot control mother nature. but do not blame mother nature when it is not her fault. we should wait to see the rain index for this month to show you that there is no drastic increase in rainfall this month compared to the highest rainfall in the past 96 years.
ttdservice 1 year ago
@ttdservice En realidad es la tercera.
JayBe1992 1 year ago 6
@ttdservice bueno... si ha llovido mas fuerte que la semana pasada... pero adivina que... no en diciembre... porque usualmente en Panama no llueve tanto para estas epocas... oh... another thing ttdservice... you want Americans to come back... where in the world geography you studied that Panama isn't part of America???
danielngho 1 year ago
i studied world geography that says that the united states was willing to help defend panama when she gained her independence from columbia. the US lent panama their currency and developed the canal zone oh and one of the wonders of the world. both countries benefited in some way.
now panamanians are proud that the americans are gone, pero, porque?
ttdservice 1 year ago

@ttdservice but I insist... in which continent PANAMA is located??? I still don't understand... according to the MAP, Panama is located in America... doesn't this make us AMERICAN also??? This is the point which I don't understand from all your comments.
Ok, US lent us their currency, developed the canal zone, and etc. but we proud of being Panamenian. Of course, changing the current currency using in Panama, won't help,
danielngho 1 year ago
JediMasterLego 1 year ago
JediMasterLego 1 year ago
JediMasterLego 1 year ago

Hahaha....
danielngho 1 year ago
@ttdservice but we should be able to do everything as US done before with the Canal Zone, but we just have and had president that doesn't do anything more than only take money from us. As US said, if Panama can't manage the Canal, then they'll come back and take it, which they are in their rights to do it, since everything, and what I mean everything is, engineers, machinery, building materials was brought from them, and build the Canal...
danielngho 1 year ago
@ttdservice we actually owning something that doesn't belong to us. I didn't say you gringo lover, but just to correct you about your AMERICANS...
danielngho 1 year ago
ttdservice 1 year ago
@ttdservice Panama es politicamente Sur America, y geograficamente Centro America. Informate.

@allegrafuct central america is not even a continent. it is a region that makes up a part of north america. and like i said, panama is part of north america.

juanfe98rain 1 year ago
lad1956 1 year ago
