  • keith, went beyond chronic fatigue.

  • Stan Lee on the bass! hahah

  • Keith, insane, incredible, love him. Brilliance. If you don't like his 'performance style' with his vocal bursts then what are you watching him for? You should know he's famous for it. He does the best audio version of Bach's 'The Well Tempered Clavier', Book 1 & Book II. Actually, him or Glenn Gould. Anyway, who cares, this is pretty damn fine & I enjoyed it, thank you.

  • For some reason, I've never liked Jack's comping style... Crazy player nonetheless.

  • Keith Jarrett is hilarious yet a beautiful player to watch

  • i wen't over the 25 min video,i still think he's an an awsome drummer,i watched the whole thing and it was awsome,crazy tignaturee,count that m. f.

  • 3 people must not like when keith jarrett screams random notes and sounds when he plays.... jack is one of my favorite people alive, along with keith

  • Timeeeeeeeeee:):)) jeeeeeeee

  • jackie D is real maan

  • Jesus, that's swingin...

  • @dangerbooboo no no... That's Jesus swingin ;)

  • This dude makes strange noises.

  • i want to see your peacock cock cock your peacock cock your peacock cock cock your cock i wanna see it

  • Enormous and huge! Love them.

  • saw keith jarrett live yesterday, played with the same emotion

  • Whas the name of this tune?

  • @mishaguitar This tune is "Butch and Butch" originally by Oliver Nelson

  • Gary peacock: It's too bright in 'ere...gotta wear ma shades.

  • awesome!

  • I love what this trio has been doing for years but I can seriously do without Jarrett's

    little cartoon man voice overs.

  • @larkydozer I always had the same problem with jarett...

  • @iwannaberock What's that dude?

  • @iwannaberock @larkydozer I don't even hear it anymore. Haven't for years. I have to deliberately focus on it.

  • a religious experience.

  • Thank god there are still true musicians in the world .....

  • Keith Jarrett, for all his skill, is a real jerk - off as a person... Takes himself WAY to seriously...I will take Zawinul, Herbie, Danilo Perez over this twitt any day

  • bella!!! li vado a vedere il 18 luglio a roma ho preso i biglietti su internet su listicket qualche giorno fa pensavo di non trovarne più

  • spettacolare!!!! ho preso i biglietti su listicket e li vado a sentire a roma a luglio!!! Grandissimo Keit... questo trio è favoloso... viva lo swing jazz! esibizione incredibile

    !

  • Rick Wakeman blows this guy away.

  • @GaryNull If you told Rick Wakeman that he can BLOW Keith Jarrett away he would look you up and down twice and tell you to shut the hell up and clear off you silly wanker for sure! He would be lot more humble and have great respect for Keith. Keith was playing with Miles Davis by the time he was 25! I love reading these amateurish dumbass comments of little wankers probably dont even know the difference between a major and minor cord!

  • @jazzflea - you said major and minor cord? really...a cord? i know...a major cord is the one you plug into when you play happy music, and the minor cord is for sad music.

  • @progjazzfusion well you're correct in that major is typically thought of as happy and minor typically invokes a sadder emotion. However, the difference is essentially the intervals up through the scale. Or you could also look at it as being the same exact scale just a different tonic.

  • @skater15153 yeah i know music theory - I was only joking with the other dude as he spelled chord wrong so i made a joke of it.

  • @progjazzfusion wow how did I not catch that hahahah nice i must have been really tired at work to miss that

  • @GaryNull - you must be joking, but if not...i like some wakeman/yes/prog stuff too, but jazz and fusion players are at another level way, beyond most any prog player, and that goes for on all the instruments, unless the prog player in question plays jazzy anyways, then they can get quite good (bruford, gavin harrison, etc) but there is no way even emerson or brian auger can touch the deeper jazz improv realms like a real jazzer who plays it all the time.

  • @progjazzfusion Yeah, Gavin always says he mainly thinks of himself as a jazz drummer, but really, do you think he sounds like a jazz drummer? He's great, my favourite drummer, and he can definitely play jazz, but I don't think his sound is quite there, not compared to Peter Erskine or DeJohnette.

    Fox.

  • @Fox622003 - I agree, gavin doesnt sound jazzy enuff to be considered a jazz drummer. hes technical, but dejohnette is real deep jazz with feeling, invention, soul, creation, reaction to other players, etc...so now way was i comparing gavin to jack. jack is on his own level, way above most. jack is prob my fav drummer, way more than gavin...gavin is more progrock technical and fun to listen to. Check out his buddy here on youtube called 05ric who is a great jazz drummer as well as guitarplayer.

  • @progjazzfusion i agree with you ,i have been playing drums for many year's and still don't have the knack,my buddy does,i recorded it off my phone, theres 1 about 25 min long under HACKDRUMMER8463 ,not bad ,the drummers name is mark ,he's one of the better drummer's arounrd toronto and he loves jack dejonetts playing ,his syle is pretty similar

  • @hackdrummer8463 - ok i checked out your buddys vid...the drummer on it is ok but he's still far off from being a real jazz or fusion drummer, especially jack D who is one of the tops of all and no one can touch him at what he does. the guitarist is not fusion or jazz at all...just random fingerings and noise...so I dont know why your bud calls it a fusion jam...that gives fusion a bad name, as if it means playing any random unrelated things fast. p.s. i play fusion guitar and drums...over 25yrs

  • Jack is the most musical drummer I have ever heard!!!

  • I would pay money to get a recording of Jarret wearing a muzzle, those groans are gay.

  • @BetterTasteThanU Man, you are not a musician i bet! Bud Powell is gay in your view too? So many top players groans like that but that would be well beyond your comprehension, what made you even look up this page? Anyway ur comment is very amateur and tasteless, although u probably only 22 and just started to taste Jazz!

  • @jazzflea - some low level vocalizing is ok, but come on with Keith it's often too loud and distracting, and never manly sounding at that...sounds like a little kid w/mental problems. We like Jarrett cuz of his piano playing, so that's all i want to hear from him...not his vocal noises. Let's hear him do his vocals without playing piano and see who likes it then...like a whole album of unaccompanied jarrett vocal solos.

  • @progjazzfusion That would be pretty damned funny...a Jarrett vocal solo album. That comment made me LMAO! Thanks!

  • lets face it, those noises he makes, same as the ones I make when Im taking a crap

  • Keith should just shut his mouth...always hate when i hear him widdy widdy along like a crazy old geezer...jack dejohnette kills like usual!!! amazing.

  • @progjazzfusion know what I mean, I cant stand that tourettes shit

  • @progjazzfusion Those fools are dope, but I cant stand when Jarrett busts that tourettes shit.

  • That's music!

  • Jack just KICKS ASS!!!!!!!!

The greatest modern jazz drummer IMO(together with Elvin Jones and Omar Hackin)

    Thanks for posting!

  • Jack's playing is so smooth yet rythmically perfect !

  • i don't know about gary's tone. jack though... what a mother fucker!!!!!!!!!!

  • Três Monstros do Jazz!!!

  • keith jarrett is one of the best piano players alive

  • What are you talking about? Just listen and enjoy... Universe us gave this!

  • sure some of the best musician at the world

  • And you are absolutely 100% right! I listen to live standards almost every day and Gary is my favorite upright player and gets annoying when I transcribe. I dont mind groaning and moaning but Gary does

test my patience, and that is without any disrespect as This particular Trio is my very very favorite little group of geniuses. They own they instruments.

  • tremendo nivel de entendimiento y muy claro el conocimiento de lo que estan tocando por eso son los maestros.

  • now thats jazz.

  • dryest cymbal ever wow beautiful

  • i have one, i use in a rock band as my only ride.. lollolol

  • wow, impressive

  • Man...music Keith wouldn't comprehend??...Keith is the MUSIC...can't you hear

  • Its just the way he plays, he says himself hes not tryin to sing along to his lines but the noise just comes out cause of excitement..

  • i would say both. and its a funny sound hes making

  • Bud Powell definitely did that. All you need to do is look up Bud Powell here on youtube and you can hear him groaning while he plays. If all you can do is pay attention to Keith's voice rather than his playing, that's a problem with your focus, not with him. Your loss.

  • this is real. some believe only if they see. well, ive seen this, this is the thing, enjoy this music. jazz !!! ... and believe it or not im a big metal fan, but this mates, my god!!!

  • This is Pure Poetry!

  • moresco63, thanks for this video, i got a few album of this 3 guys together, they are great. the best in jazz!!!!

  • Oh, mama, I've enjoyed every peace of this music. Rituals? Spiritualism? Come on, it's just jazz!

  • That being said, I will agree that spiritulism does require some ritual base and can help all of us and probably does help these guys in life which does come out.

  • It's more about having an open head space, not about going home and praying to something or ritualizing. Jack and Gary are into spiritualism, and keith probably, but all these guys were playing like this before they knew who they even were. Rituals, etc. do not correlate with how good or bad someone can play..that's obvious.

  • Pure musical genius. LOL

  • haha at the beginning it looks like he's trying to bum the piano

  • Witch standard is this??

  • "butch and butch"

check out the version from the trio album "Up For It" - just amazing.

  • thank you!

  • are you mental? they're not 'tics' its keith jarrett ya dafty..! listen more .. say less...

  • say less

  • He is the best living jazz pianist on the planet. The most original sound and brilliant improvisations. When he is gone, he will be remembered as one of the giants...if not already.

  • Don`t fool around.

If you want to listen only the instrument, search a classic pianist, but don`t think in that way about Keith Jarrett. It´s part of his identity like musician. One of the best piano players ever.

  • yes, i don't doubt that he is one of the best piano players. but i think this whole screaming and acting is unnessecary. music is a thing you hear, you could be blind to be a great musician (stevie wonder; ray charles; etc.) or to have a understanding of what a good musician is.

  • Music isnt just what you hear. Its something you see also. C'mon!! All the senses are excited (Bar taste). I sometimes see musicians in bands that i dont like the music of but i get a buzz from what i see them do. Get with it man!

  • ummm most pianists who grunk and yell and sing their ideas say it is a bad habit that helps them hear the ideas before they play them, but they would stop if they could. Love them all!

  • It is all about energy, and harmony. To everyone his own way to get the most out of his body and mind. Rituals are essential. Whatever they are (the rituals) is at full discretion of the artist who was lucky/unlucky enough to find/not find those that suited themselves.

  • the screaming and physical movements are not acting, that is just how it comes out of keith. something that is rarely acknowledged is that even herbie hancock often groans along to his improvisations (check out the video of him playing "toys" with mcbride and dejohnette recently). it's a natural thing.

  • Nothing wrong with that, I know heaps of brilliant jazz pianists who do the same thing, myself included (but I don't call myself a brilliant pianist!).

  • the screaming/singing is just apart of his identity as a musician, wouldn't be a keith jarrett performance without it.

  • nice to see the bitches brew guys still hanging out

  • Is this "Barbados"?

  • it is Oleo

  • It is Butch & butch

  • great performence!!

  • i love how he "sings" when he plays piano

  • "The house is too loud" lol

  • perfect

  • le batteur il est fantastique

  • completely agree,

    joues tu la batterie?

  • I love the part in this DVD where Keith complains about the sound LOL. This is great stuff tho, Jack's swing is otherwordly.

  • that bit is great yes! right after this song is performed - when gary peacock says the monitors are too loud, and keith tries to get the attention of the japanese sound guys but can't. when he tells gary peacock that he's getting no response from them you can hear peacock say something like "fuck 'em" under his breath. hahaha. just great.

  • this is sick! those two-hand lines by jarrett near the end are ridiculous.

  • It's the melody of the song, Butch & Butch

  • Some people get on Keith for acting so weird on stage, but I mean when you're playing like that you gotta be reaching into the very inches of your body to wrench that musical inspiration out. :P

  • YeeeeeeaaaAAHHH!!!!

    keith jarrett trio :

"LIVE AT OPEN THEATER EAST" 1993

( with jack dejohnette + gary peacock )

    thanks moresco63!

  • I have been after this gig for YEARS!!!!

does anyone know what the dvd is called?

i think it was recorded from japan taken from two performances. its soooooo gooood!!

    10/10
