  • Game$how Marathon was great tribute to old game shows. Few things: Ricki Lake's voice and style was annoying. It would have been great if there were real people and not celebrities for their own cash and prizes.

  • @ThePatrickinator I agree there.

To be honest, I thought Kathy was being a douche the whole time she played. She just seemed to do everything outside the "norm."

  • @ThePatrickinator I didn't care of Ricki Lake doing it. I would have loved it better if they got a classic game show host to do this series, especially since they were paying homage to classics. I can understand why no Richard Dawson or Ray Combs here, but why not try and see if Bob Eubanks, Chuck Woolery, Bob Barker, Alex Trebek or Wink Martindale couldn't do this special.

  • @rickhh1: If Game Show Hosts were in Game Show Marathon, I would probably test their knowledge about Game Show trivia.

  • The only problem with the game board is that the side boxes that show each family's score should be lower.

  • @godzillahulk The board was accidentally made upside down.

  • The set is OK and almost looks like ABC's, but I prefer the old turn board better than a computerized one.

  • This is complete MOCKERY! RICKI LAKE SHOULD DIE!!!!!

  • The funny thing is, Rod Roddy done an ep of Family Feud in '80-'81

  • Isn't this announcer on "The Price is Right"?

  • It is. Rich Fields has been the announcer for "The Price is Right" for about five years now, ever since the passing of Rod Roddy.

  • @crinos43

Price is Right has a new announcer!

  • ....but he was the announcer for the entire game show marathon

  • I'd like to buy a vowel, Bob.

  • That set is horrible! It looks like something designed at a high school. Okay, the lights cascade outward like on the Dawson version, but this time they're hooked into one controller, where the old version had two. The trilon computer system is projected, unlike the old flip-discs from yesteryear (too expensive to replicate). The family sliding doors' lettering is too small. And I have nothing against Ricki Lake but c'mon! The list is endless!

  • Actually most of the Combs set was Dawson's. The set was left outside so they repainted most of the set like the board and family podiums, but as you said many things were a mock up, like the face-off podium. Who knows what happened to that stuff after Combs was fired.

  • It would be a perfect set if the board wasnt upside down

  • Saying "survey says" during the regular rounds just is a complete disgrace to all Family Feud fans.

  • I have to somewhat agree. It's more appropriate to Fast Money.

  • @mateo096: Most of the players were only celebrities.

  • Worked out great that both Kathy Najimy and Brande Roderick made it to the finals, since it gave the producers a chance to show clips of their respective earlier appearances on FF in 1981 and 2001, respectively.

  • I don't see how the board is upside down!

They were basing it from when Richard Dawson hosted not Ray Combs.

During Richard's era the board rotates to the right after the host is introduced.

In Ray's era the board rotates to the left after the host was introduced.

The trilon is rotating the right way

  • Not the trilon, the actual board.

  • Another technical flaw. The faceoff buzzers were more from the 1988-95 style (progressive like the faceoff lights) instead of the 1976-86 (flashing) and the game board lights did not move on the buzzer. (The faceoff buzzer does not flash, but the game board lights move, on the O'Hurley board.)

  • How is the board upside down????

  • One side is more "flattened" (lest of a sharp curve) than the other. One the original sets, the flattened side was the bottom, where here, it's the opposite.

~Why on Earth do I notice that? lmao

  • yeah, the bottom of the game board was in line with the bottom of each score board.

it's painfully obvious, that's how you noticed. haha

  • @jjlucash Because you're a game show nut like all of us! Welcome to da family, bro! Lol...

  • Wait what version is this? I'm looking forward to the new Celebrity Family Feud version. This format never gets old.

  • This was done on GameShow Marathon back in 2006. It's supposed to be based on the old Richard Dawson version.

  • They should be using all the original cues and sounds from the original Feud on the Celebrity Edition. This is gonna be exciting.

  • Note that the giant trilon was replaced by a huge plasma screen, plus they used the current time for Fast Money. Also, the survey oval was constructed upside down.

  • they spun the trilon in the wrong way (dumbys!)

  • I felt it would have been more appropriate to use the Combs set for the Family Feud portion of this marathon, as well as the Bob Eubanks set for Card Sharks, since both of these versions of these shows were taped at CBS Television City and shown on CBS Daytime back in the day.

  • Kathleen Ann Najimy should be proud of all she had accomplished to this series.

  • LMAO the board is upside down.

  • If they were playing for $100,000, why didn't they just do The $100,000 Pyramid? Shit, they probably would have butchered that set too somehow.

  • Sorry, sorry, it was $50,000 they were playing for. But still, if they did Pyramid, the set would have come out looking like a CHEAPER version of the 1991 set.

  • @gameshowluvr86 Because GSM went for Fremantle-produced shows, and the Pyramid franchise is owned by Sony.

  • I thought the Combs set was a rebuild of the Dawson set.

  • It was.

  • This set really is crappy looking. I'm surprised since they did an incredible job on the sets for Match Game 73 and Press Your Luck.

  • this was based on the old show

  • But they did, however, use the correct font on the scoreboards. (hurray)

  • The board is a lot like the Richard Dawson set. On Match Game, Adam Corolla was in the chair Richard Dawson sat in (Betty White sat in her own chair that night)

  • The "Feud" podium looks so cheaply made. :P

  • the faceoff podium i mean

  • Well that's supposed to be the Dawson era one. Personally I liked the Combs era one much better.

  • Everything looks cheap. They didn't even put the gray trim on the front of the podiums. The faceoff lights are all wrong. Plus, they built the damn board upside down! This set was a travesty.

  • WELL... they should've use the set when Dawson came back in 1994. The game board, we're similar to the one on today's version & why didn't they use the original BUZZER "XXX" sound? The one they sound, doesn't last for 01 full second, like the DAWSON/COMBS/ANDERSON version.

  • Anyone know what the final answer was?

  • I'm not sure if you guys know this but a long time ago a guy by the name of Todd Robinson made a presentation software version of Family Feud and he ran it for a few years before Fremantlemedia caught on to him and gave him an offer to run the big feud board on this show and at a casino stage version of family feud on the condition that he'd get rid of the software, he had no other choice but he did take both offers and now here we are.

  • She's no Dawson,But I have to say I enjoyed this. Riki did a good job.And they should of used the 1994-1995 set that was a good set!!!!

They need to do this again,This year!!!!!!

  • Unfortunately the network heads in their infinite wisdom gave us pirate master instead.

Shame. I really liked this tournament format. I hope one day they'll bring it back. But I don;t think it'll be anytime soon. Sorry...

  • I would lvoe to see GSM come back. So long as they use civilians instead of celebrities.

Heck, being the quaterfinals with Rich calling contestants to COME ON DOWN to play the games.

  • Exactly. Who wants to see a bunch of lame fucking celebrities that almost no one gives a flying fuck about, when they can use "civilians" (everyday folk like us)...plus they can replace Ricki with someone more palatable as host, perhaps raven-symone or heck Todd Newton would be better than Ricki.

  • I enjoyed the whole series. Don't think Ricki Lake paid homage to the original hosts, might have been better for the original host to do it. I bet I probably could've done better, so...

  • Richard Dawson would've been a hoot to see for the Family Feud portion! But of course there needecto be one host for the whole marathon, I just didn't care for Ricki but it bothered me worse that dippy celebs were used as contestants. Why not normal folk who we can better relate to and we'd have more fun watching them make money than celebs who are already loaded (okay, they were playing for some charity).

  • What a relief to see the Dawson era set proof they could indeed use it in this day and age :)

  • I wished they could have used this set for the current John O' Hurley Version,(but with the board right side up). Keepin it ol' 'school but at the same time keepin it updated.

  • ricki lake???!!!.... you got to be fuckin kiddin me...... okay, got to sympathize with ray combs here, if this was before his suicide, this is definately a good reason to pull the plug........

  • Dude this was way after Ray Combs' suicide. It was in like 2006

  • And Press Your Luck host Peter Tomarken died in early 2006, just a few months before the Marathon aired. Peter would've been GREAT not only to have hosted "Press Your Luck" on the marathon but the entire thing. Even Jeff Probst (Survivor) would be better than Ricki.

  • Um....dude, this happened last year dumbass. Hence "Gameshow Marathon" which was a 7 day special with each day being a different game show. They used all the old sets from Family Feud, Match Game, Press Your Luck, and others. It was actually pretty good. Sorry if you don't agree close-minded person. Perhaps doing research next time will earn you some brownie points next time you criticize something without knowing the facts. Have a nice day.

  • Brande is HOTTTT

  • Maybe because they was using CBS's version of the theme since the Dawson version was back on ABC (Not counting the 93-94 Version that was on CBS after the Combs era)

  • you know what I noticed?

the theme music isn't from the Dawson era. It's from the Combs era!

  • Makes sense considering this show, as well as the ones from the Combs era, were taped at CBS Television City, so it only makes sense to dig into the music archive if the tape is still good.

  • But you notice, they lowered the pitch a little to reflect how the theme was in 1976.

I can hardly hear the faceoff cues.

  • like how ricki pulls her mini Richard Dawson tribute by bowing to both "families"

  • Rich Fields announcing for the Feud: Priceless!

  • this set looks aweful compared to the real one used in the 76-95

  • I do agree with you. The Dawson/Combs era set was MUCH better. Hell, the current set with O'Flannery looks better than this!

  • give me the Dawson / Combs era anyday!!

  • That's "O'Hurley." :) And you're right. The board is upside down and everything looks too... awful. Hell, the 1994-1995 set would be better than this.

  • Would love to see the rest of this since i didnt recored it on my vcr.

  • Believe it or not CBS and Fremantle Media was using Todd Robinson's Family Feud Presentation Software to run the survey board. Also could you (crinos43) post the rest of this episode please, this is the only one i missed (i screwed up the vcr recording and wound up only recording the first 5mins or so)

  • Changing the format on "Family Feud" is probably a bad idea. The flip over board is way better than a computer generated board, and it's best if there were still up to 12 survey answers instead of 8.

  • But 12 answers are rarely (if ever) needed. I think the only time they really needed all 12 spaces was once, on the Dawson version in the early '80s.

  • I agree, I don't see why they could not have had a computer flip board.

  • I do.

  • Did you know at the end the confetti rains down?

  • IMHO, other than Ricki Lake hosting it, I enjoyed this game.

  • The oval gameboard and face-off podium looked too "characatured" rather than a replica. Though I like the digital rendition of Dawson's yellow survey board with the Dawson era strike "font".

  • Alex is adorable...

  • The board isn't the same one. It's actually digital, and this is based on the Richard Dawson version, not the Ray Combs one.
