Buicks were all about Speed, then all about luxury for the old folks, what you are seeing now is Buick backing out of the older folks market, but clinging on to the luxury. People can hate on Buick all they want, But like Pontiac, they didnt have to be saved, so i would stop the pointless hating, and move on!
Everyone complains this car isn't rear wheel drive.
I'm glad it's front wheel drive. Coming from a snowy climate, it's nice to have a nice sporty sedan that can be driven in the winter, without having to worry about the handling issues of rear wheel drive, or having to pay the extra money for all wheel drive.
@maximuswinnie9 It be nice if they just found a way to add the options of all drive trains. Wouldnt it be nice to say I want it in Rear Wheel, or front wheel, or All wheel or the option of 4 wheel drive? Im still waiting for the day that it becomes a reality, when you can custom order wht wheels get the power. Although being in the winters myself Of course the only things you can drive is front wheel or all wheel or 4 wheel lol....which I prefer over rea wheel anways.
What the hell? So american cars of today are actually europeans? Where are those old school 6m long caddys with huge engines and luxury? Gotta change back, othervise there will be no american cars at all
@DASVWPOS. A v6 engine is by far the stupidest option to even consider. The car is very light and more than perfect for a 4 turbo. Stop thinking inside the box and get out of it. Its about damn time gm did. At a time when gas is constantly going up a turbo is the best ooption.
I always thought The regal was a re-badged Malibu. But this actually way better, even thought it have the same problems as always. One its as small as the Malibu, and its a product of GM. GM hasn't made any good cars since the 70's. They've made so much crap they started to bringing their foreign badged cars over to the USA to make a profit. First the re-badged Holden/Pontiac G8/soon Chevy Caprice, now the Opel/Buick Regal
I like Buick, but I don't like how the big detroit 3 are going all Front-Wheel Drive. It's what kept me away from the Chrysler 200, and it's what will keep me away from this. It's not that I want to drift, or do burnouts - it's that I believe front-wheel drive always has, and always will be by companies who care more about just having an entry rather than actually caring about what they produce.
I really tried to like this car, but 0-60 in 9.9 sec on a base and 8.4 on a turbo that is just laughable. I guess that is what you get if you fit 2.0t engine in a car that weights more than a moon. My old 02 rsx would smoke this "sport" sedan (or coupe). Also great build quality @4:56. I'm currently on a market for a decent car in 30k range, almost definitely will get 09-10 g37xs
This is a Vauxhall Insignia (or Opel if you drive on he wrong side of the road) In the UK this is a low rent hire car sold at massive discounts to fleets, usually with a Diesel Engine. There is nothing whatsoever premium or sporting about it. Having seen some of the tat the rest of the US car industry produces however, I can understand why its considered a luxury car over there.
@rickerbycourt buick is a mid-level car, Is a mid level car in GMs range above the Chevrolet, but below the Cadillac. They did upgrade the interior, and bells and whistles to fill the midrange position. " Having seen some of the tat the rest of the US car industry produces however, I can understand why its considered a luxury car over there." howmany of said cars sold for more than $20,000?
After the bankrupcy, someone woke up and suddenly said, Opel is a subsidiary that allready has entered the 21st century, let's not sell them but use the knowledge thats allready there so we can offer americans good cars instead of the crap we rammed up their arses over the last 15 years.
Watch out Lexus, GM is reborn and coming back stronger and better. You can lease a new Buick Regal for $299.00 a month and no money down. Check out your nearest Buick Dealership NOW!
This whole lexus vs GM thing is crazy. A new Lexus IS in its most basic form will run you around 40k. With this you get pretty much the same thing but at around 25k. People cannot accept that GM is starting to put out a good product that can compete. Not to mention the reliablity and cost factor. working at a lexus dealership i have seen how un reliable they can be and how expensive they are to fix. With American cars they dont break as much and when they do they dont cost as much to fix.
@CapitanBluebeard A Lexus IS in it's most basic form is closer to 35k and I would put a Regal around 27k. Still 8k more, but RWD makes the Lexus a much better performance car from the get go. Also, while I have been inside a Regal and admit the interiior is very nice, I would still prefer the IS interior.
@CapitanBluebeard The Regal is a Opel Insignia Made in Germany with another badge (and minimal design changes but still roles out of the same factory..) in general GM cars no matter whatt brand aren't as good as the Ford cometitors or those from many European or Japanese firms. (my personal opinion mixed with personal experience)
@Raffix394 Dont act like Ford, Toyota, Honda and Nissan dont all do the same things. Ford brings over the Transit and the Fiesta from Ford Europe, Toyota brings over its JDM models and makes them Scion everyone does that my friend.
@CapitanBluebeard "All do the same things" what are you talking about? Rebranding? Not everyone other firms use the same platform for different cars but at least most of the cars also look different like VW for instance the Audi A1 is based on the Polo but you wouldn't see that from the outside. Anyway that's not my point. My point is that GM cars are pretty much crap, and the company wouldn't exist anymore without (illegal) gouvernment help.
@CapitanBluebeard good point,I own a 2007 4 door wrangler,2005 chrysler 300C and a 2005 lexus SC430, bet you can guess the only one to break down not once but 4 times in 5 years.the other two haven't broke down once yet touchwood.
@CapitanBluebeard you just said lexus is not reliable? You sir have no clue. I had a 1997 lexus gs 400 for 13 years with around 250k miles and it still drove perfect and i sold it. Lexus sells some of the most reliable products.
@xjado321 Luxury cars in general are not reliable due to the many added features. ( more on a car more to go wrong with it) But as far as lexus goes i have seen people drive out of the dealership brand new Lexus GX and come back and have 5 dash lights on all related to electrics. I will admit Lexus is better than say... Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Land Rover AS FAR AS REPAIR COSTS GO. Because most of the parts are toyota parts. but beacuse more is put on the car the parts arent as reliable.
Uh, KBB, they had turbocharged Regals (the GS) all the way through 2004. And even the naturally aspirated LS version had a 200hp, 220ftlb V6 engine that blows the craptastic Ecotec I4 out of the water. I've test driven this car - it's slow as hell.
"You'll like the Buick Regal if you want a premium American sedan, with an American look and feel, that doesn't care your European price tag." Actually it is an European car, the only thing American on it, is the badge. You even said it like 10 seconds ago yourself .
Wait, why would they comparing this to BMW 3 or Infiniti G? The Regal starts at $27k and those cars are at least $7k higher starting. The Regal competes with the Volkswagen CC, Jetta, or Acura TSX...
They should have kept the concept cars front bumpers, they lloked way better than the one implemented here. The car just looks a bit boring from the front IMO. If they would have kept the original sporty aspect of it I think it would have done a bit better at attracting the younger generation of luxury buyers that they are after.
@derk702 Yep thats true. If you want to see some good car reviews that have a main focus on fuel economy check out mpgomatic channel.. Dan does pretty good reviews and covers a lot of aspects that the big names don't. Just tell him flatblackstrat sent ya, haha.
Why has KBB become such a joke? I love how towards the end they show competitors to the Regal, and they have a picture of the "Volvo S60." Only...it's an artist's rendition of what the production model will look like before Volvo revealed it. Sad.
What have the American Automakers been doing for the past 15 years. Arg.So annoying we wait till bankruptcy to redesign things. I think instead of coffee they have been drinking warm milk. Isn't Buick getting fazed out? Damn shame.Nothing better than beating a Japanese car with one my grandfather would drive...
calm down people, a turbo 4 producing 220 horsepower is coming out very soon and itl prlly cost around 30,000$. NOTE: Thats more power then a TSX, A4, or the all new Infiniti G25 and is the same price.
i find the styling bland, something my grandpa would find attractive.. i doubt its very sporty- cant expect much from a sedan anyways. wish auto makers were a little more daring with the styling.
buick doesn't have to go on. It's one of those automobile companies that can die right now really easily. Nothing nice coming out from Buick "Turbocharger makes it sporty" yeah if it was on civic, but not Buick
I wasn't crazy about this design at first, but it's starting to grow on me. Should be more interesting once they put the 6 speed manual in with the turbo four.
And its not a sports car if there's no manual trim level. Yes you shift up and down but still has a torque converter...not a clutch.
nvm there's one planed but still 2.0L turbo is a bit small for that sized car although 220hp is not horrible. Rather have the 3.5L V6 sport 6 speed manual ford fusion. Our 2008 Ford Fusion Se 3.0 auto is an amazing car for the price.
EVERYTHING about this new Buick is fantastic except for ONE thing, the lack of a v6. Sadly, Americans like bigger engines. Many people wont be buying this Regal due to the lack of a v6. This is why Acura was forced to introduce a v6 for their TSX due to customer demand.
@sdlausen Blame Obama and the new CAFE standards. GM was going to bring the Opel Insignia OPC with it's 325 hp V-6 to the U.S. as the Regal GS, but apparently it won't meet the long-term standards. Instead, they will opt for the re-tuned turbo 2.0 which will produce 252 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque, up from the 220 hp and 258 lb-ft of the regular turbo-4.
It is German made clone of Opel Insignia ( name in Europe ) best chose is 2 liter diesel..

Instead, they will opt for the re-tuned turbo 2.0 which will produce 252 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque, up from the 220 hp and 258 lb-ft of the regular turbo-4.
