  • Aion suntelia and Ouroboros!!!!

  • i love this song...n///n

  • I have been unwrapping 'snakes and arrows' like a present, song by song. I've been a Rush fan for more than 20 yrs, and if I'm not mistaken, this is some of their finest work. They just keep getting better, refining their craft. Amazing. BTW- why do you Christians feel compelled to ruin EVERY COMMENT SECTION ON YOUTUBE with your proselytizing? Frankly, it's a real party foul, off subject, and the wrong venue. Comment as you like, but please stay on the subject at hand.

    RUSH RULES!!

  • i dont mind the woah's tbh, it is how the band intends to potray the moods and feeling in the poem. obviously diffrent people will hear the song diffrently, and of corse are entitled to thier own oppinions. but you must all agree that this song (and the snakes and arrown album) makes for good listening :)

  • yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You are mistaken. No way Geddy or Alex have this kind of poetry in them. If I'm not mistaken Geddy has not written a song for rush lyrically since the 70s. Awesome song. Yeah the whoas are a touch much but not enough to destroy the beautiful arpeggios and sheer power of the verse.

  • If I'm not mistaken, Geddy and Alex wrote this one, NOT Neil. And besides, how is it hippie crap? This is one of my favourite, if not my favourite song, from their Snakes And Arrows album. Rush forever!

  • duh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Such so

  • Rush never ceases to amaze me.

These guys have been around for 35 years and they still put out music that blows the younger guys away.

You have to think these guys are in their mid 50s and even their senior citizen efforts LOL have more heart, more talent, more soul, more meaning then 85% of the younger rock groups these days.

Unbelievable! just goes to show what has happened to rock music and the lazy slouches that have been invited into the scene in the last 10-15 years. Hail Rush!

  • AnthonyDelRay shut the fuck up damn you talk too damn much. my God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "Hard gay rock"?

  • Yeah JungleScene I like how you got that quote of Google so Im going to have to agree with the guy that actually wrote it.

  • What do you mean he got that quote "of Google"? Seriously, that's just stupid. He didn't even write anything special, why would it be a famous quote O_o.

  • people who trash talk this song obviously have no perception of good poetry, and dont understand the poetic structure and incredible writing involved in this song.

  • Sure, the poem is complicated and admirable, but the song is weak.... The "Woahs" kill it, in my opinion.

  • I've pointed out that Neil's lyrics for this album work better as poetry to be read then as songs to be recorded. Way too wordy, preachy and self-indulgant. 'Hemispheres' was wordy and self-indulgant, but it was still powerful and fun to listen to. Not a whiney snoozefest like this, you know?

  • This has got to be my favorite song on the Snakes and Arrows album. Rush forever!

  • lol "hippie crap"? id say this is a strong song as well..my opinion, of course...

  • Y'know, jnoble12, some people wisen up with age... besides, loving one's free will and independence does not conflict with seeing how this world sucks (which is basically what this song is about...)

  • Neil had a lot to be bitter about and I respect that...I just don't need to hear two albums in a row now that are just bitch bitch bitch about everything, you know? Maybe the next album will be more fun to listen to lyrically and musically.

  • yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sometimes its hard to see the upside of things, rock drummers are no different. :(

  • yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Reason without faith leads to materialism and selfishness, while faith without reason leads to fundamentalism, blind and capricious. ------ Peart should read Papa Benny.

  • i love this song it was so brill sein them at newcastle rush 4 eva

  • What a song. Simply brilliant.

  • i saw them last thursday in hershey pa, they were amazing, especially this song

  • i saw them in toronto last wedsday they were awesome

  • This song is heavy and all, makes me want a toke.

  • cool.

  • knowhat?

  • i love this song saw them live in tampa, amazing

  • In the larger bowl with spindrift on our bravest face.

  • this is a wicked song i saw them do it live and it was awsome

  • Also forgive me for typo errors I make occassionally, I forget this thing doesn't have spell check.

  • Such a lot of jackass' on the earth!

  • Let's stop the bickering, shall we? Neither side can prove their arguments, and both (in my opinion) just come off sounding ill-informed and quite stupid. We can neither prove God's existence, nor refute it, so why not make life better for everyone despite your beliefs and keep your agendas to yourselves. Though, I will say, trying to evangelize people through Youtube comments is probably the most idiotic thing I've ever seen.

  • OK, agentpissant42, think about it, I just analyzed what you said and it's rather idiotic as well. You seem to have an opinion, but have the audacity to criticize others while seeking neutrality. Furthermore what's wrong with the medium of youtube, I got your attention using it!

  • Mediation baby. Mediation. I knew what I did. I just believe that evangelization on youtube doesn't work because all it consists of is naming calling from both sides. I mean, I would understand if you were just replying back to someone, but it seems as though you are going out of your way to criticize rather than just responding. If you're trying to get people to believe, all you are doing is pushing them. I personally believe in God or a god, but don't push your beliefs down people's throats.

  • Shut the fuck up all of you! Rush is live in Phx tonight!!! Their music kicks ass and thats all that matters, fuckers. late

  • The Church of the Agnostics

    Preacher: Neil Peart

  • There is no doctrine. What result would we have for not thinking the same thing? Eternal damnation? Nope...All I see is individualism.

  • Oh would you please shut the fuck up you condescending christian asshole. Neil is just fine the way he is. There is nothing ignorant about not believing in a religion that has no evidence to back it up. Yeah his lyrics are depressing. So fucking what! The poor man lost his wife and daughter. The last thing he needs is some high and mighty christ cunt telling him he needs jesus. Neil Peart is great man and Rush kicks ass, and their new album kicks ass. Bible thumpers, blow it out your ass!!!

  • God is fake. And if he is real then he is a complete fuckhead.

  • So what, just because I think that nobody could possibly do such horrible things to infants (Birth defects) causing me to not believe in god makes me a crackhead?

  • YAY GAWD IF MAI FRIND! HE HALP ME LERN IN SKOOOL! I DO gUd WITH GAWD HELPS ME! YAY GAWD!

  • Dude, you dropped your crack pipe!

  • If you're going to do this, at least be clever about it. I'm all for petty youtube shouting matches, but give us some credit at least. It doesn't take much work to find that you said almost exactly the same thing a week ago. For a born again Christian or whatever you are, you sure like to put people through a lot of suffering.

  • I am trying to get others to think for themselves and read a little about the bible before they form an opinion of it. I find that the greatest critics of the bible, know very little about the word of God. Forgive me if i am being abrasive or harsh in the process it's fueled by the opposition, although I probably shouldn't let it bother me.

  • Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

The gods of Egypt were put to shame by God the creator. Ponder my thoughts for a while before responding.

  • Such a lot of pain on the earth. read the explanation given below.

  • in the beginning man created god there is no god your explanation is false look at Jesus and the myth around him Egyptian gods resealable Jesus quite a bit and that was years before Jesus was ever here

  • Day two of Sunday school.Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in th earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:20:5 thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for i the lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.

  • I feel like i have to take this guy to sunday school. The answer lies in the first few books of the old testament. blessings and curses are a real part of the Law of Moses. It seems this guy will never get it. how can such an intelligent person be so ignorant. Please Neil, wake up.

  • Even after twenty years these guys still rock, if anything harder than ever

  • TMMB- stands for Techncally Might Might Be

BEst Song eVer... listen to the blessed and pure Jam of the last minutes.. SUCH GRACE! starts from birth

  • I hope you were just joking ePhilosopher, TMMB stands for The Main Monkey Business..

  • wha whoa did you mean a pantheon of animals living behind iron gates, Socrates?

  • it's begining to look a lot like a rehashed version of 'if i could wave my magic wand' ...

  • I wish Rush would return to their pop stylings from the mid-80s. The new stuff is too folksy and hard-edged. They sold more records when they adopted the 80s syntho-pop sound.

  • lets see... bought every rush album or cd ever produced,a few posters and t-shirts here and there, listened to about 12 to 11 rants and such Live mind you ... how's that go? ah yeah, such a lot of Priceless on the earth.

  • This used to be my favorite song from the album but Spindrift has won me over. Still a great song, awesome guitar solo.

  • well they're different people than they were 25 years ago, Neils gone through pains that I can't even imagine

  • I respect that they're older and things have happened...it's just that I find the music they wrote to go with the lyrics this time around is boring and mundane, which is something that they can be rarely accused of. Plus, Neils lyrics are too wordy and unorganized..most of the the songs here just read like a long rant instead of proper "verse/chorus/verse/bridge/chorus" etc etc

  • I think Neil Pearts pain has made the songs better.

All the songs have a good message, and I love it

  • Songs don't need a Chorus or a Bridge... different parts yes but they don't need to be specific...

  • his lyrics are fine. Theres nothing wrong with them

  • its such a great song, this song is so true about the world

  • great guitar solo

  • isn't there a different version of this song?

  • Great song, very sad though. I didn't even know who did this song, thought it was Rush bc it sounded like them. Had a bad night a few weeks back, got in a drunken shouting match with ex-girl and she left and woulnd't return calls, havn't spoken to her since. Had this song playing in my head all night so I had to look it up and yes, it is indeed Rush.

  • well, esb818, Rush can help you through the hardest time of your life, no lie.

  • lol saw them at sheffield last night!! what a gig!.

  • I hope to see them june 1st in portland, or

  • LMFAO!

  • Whats so..

    LMFAO ..

    about this?

  • It's like a hardcore lullaby!

  • This sounds like the Go-Gos song "Vacation," but it's good anyway

  • three best songs on the album to me are: Armor and Sword, The Larger Bowl, and Far Cry

  • what about faithless and we hold on

  • I wish Willie Nelson would do a cover of this song.

  • The most beautiful song I've heard in the last 20 years! It should play on a celestial music box!

  • This song hasn't gotten old in 3 months. S&A is not a revolutionary Rush album but in its way it is a masterpiece and absolutely a "beacon in the night" of music right now. I don't think Rush has ever recorded an album so understated or confident. It doesn't sound like an ending, and it should be a beginning.

  • Great choice in songs bro. This one was one of those songs that at first I dont like/get the song, but then it one day just sounds bad ass and thats it. Then again, that is how most Rush songs are for me, I get hasty to hear their new shit, and for some reason I wish to hear the older Rush in the new stuff, but I listen to the new stuff and it begins to click after a few listens and it is the best Rush ever!

  • Old Doctor Bojay's gonna "light up a bowl" and kick back and listen to some Snakes and Arrows. This one happens to be his fave. In honor of it, I'm going to fire up a "larger bowl" than usual.

  • You bet.

    What a great song.

  • This has been released as a single to COUNTRY stations as well as rock

  • I love this song.

  • If there's an "official" video for this, I hope it's not too soppy or sentimental, because the song avoids that while driving home its powerful message without cliche.

  • why such diferent fortunes and spiining thoughts, sirs, when , Obviously, seem to see, sucks to seem. May you never need to seem. Something so badly arranged.Ged knows better. put out the folding chairs.

  • "Let be be finale of seem / The only emperor is the Emperor of Ice Cream." --Wallace Stevens. "The possible dream, finale of seem ..." --They Might Be Giants. The only ePhilosopher is the ePhilosopher held in high esteem. The only doctor is Bojay Gupta, breast exam and vaginal gamut complaint healer extraoirdinaire.

  • Jose Chung speaks about Juggernaut Onan Gupta:

    watch?v=1SyHLXvqPdY

  • You guys are crazy

  • You must understand that Neil has been through a lot of pain. He is, I hope, asking some hard questions about the meaning of life. This seems to be reflected in the post-trauma lyrics. (ie - One Little Victory, for instance )

I find it ironic that he is focussing on the spiritual questions - but is respectful about his atheistic position. I pray for these guys - that they will come to know the truth.

    See you in Seattle.

  • If we're so much the same like I always hear Why such different fortunes and fates? Some of us live in a cloud of fear Some live behind iron gates Why such different fortunes and fates? Some are blessed and some are cursed Some live behind iron gates While others see only the worst Some are blessed and some are cursed The golden one or scarred from birth While others only see the worst Such a lot of pain on the earth
  • The golden one or scarred from birth Somethings can never be changed Such a lot of pain on this earth It's somehow so badly arranged Somethings can never be changed Some reasons will never come clear It's somehow so badly arranged If we're so much the same like I always hear Some are blessed and some are cursed The golden one or scarred from birth While others only see the worst Such a lot of pain on the earth
  • Peart is asking us to consider whether faith is relevant in a world seemingly ruled by chance. The last line circles back around wryly to Peart's own compassionate elitism.

  • I forgive you son.

  • more crap

  • I forgive you son.

  • Why such different fortunes and fates? Gee, I don't know??!! In the USA poverty is generally a self-inflicted condition. Get off your asses and change your fate! Keep your pecker in your pants or your legs tightly closed. Work hard. Don't complain. Don't look to government. Pray.

  • work smart....not hard ;^)

  • Great song, lyrically & musically(like most Rush songs).

  • This is the new single from the album. They are also sending it to rock, adult contemp., and COUNTRY stations!? Yeah I know! I think it's awesome.

  • I thought Far Cry was the single from this album

  • It is... There's 3 singles. "Far Cry," "Spindrift" and this one.

  • I love this song! The style it is written in, a pantoum, is so awesome! how the first line of a verse is the second line of the verse before it, and how the first line and last line are the same (not counting the chorus, of course, to make it a song it is a bit different, but its written like that). Love it! great message!

  • Infact i defy anyone to name a band with a better body of work, the stones & AC,DC have been around a while but there is no comparison musically, U2 overated! GnR now a joke, only Led Zep, Aerosmith, Floyd, VH come close

  • Great song from a legendary band, apart from Van Halen what band is there right now with that kinda history & respect on a worldwide basis? count every new Rush album as a blessing cos too many great bands don't make it that far & they're still here! all the more power to them

  • i like armor and sword the best. this ones a little too depressing and acoustic, although the only legitimate solo in the album is nice.

  • everyone just shut up, a musician wants to write a song about how he views the world and you all sound like you are offended. ther are plenty of tracks on this album that have deeper meanings so quit complaining.

  • All you guys are dumbasses. Neils wife and daughter just died, his lyrics for every song are going to reflect that.

PS this is one of the better songs of the album (they all are)

  • finally someone else is spreading the message...ive been telling a shitload of people the exact same thing. the whole album is about losing faith or questioning life itself

  • well it was about 10 years ago, but still I can't even imagine that happening, I don't know if i'd make it.

  • why do i dont get a single word of what ephilosopher is saying?

  • none of us do.

  • Dudes - ePhilospher is a bot, generating gibberish from an ngram model. If I had to guess, I'd say it's trained on philosophy and poetry texts, interpolated to the content of clustered discussions (hence "dear anthem records") that you find here. Know what I'm sayin?

  • Anyway, the pantoum construction of The Larger Bowl is a tight little tour de force on Neil's part. When I first read it and saw how it interleaved and rolled back on itself in perfect completion - I couldn't help but smile at his cleverness and skill. And awed by pulling it off.

  • "If we're so much the same, like I always hear" ... I love the way Neil takes common, bland, patently false expressions that are uttered unthinkingly by millions as unquestionable truths, flips it inside out, makes a song of it, and turns out a fresh perspective for your enjoyment and contemplation. So no, erock33, it's not lame at all.

P.S. How does one get indented comments?

  • Like this? You don't reply to the video itself, but rather reply to a comment. You'll notice each comment has a little blue 'Reply' link, that is the key my friend, that is the key.

  • pressed down by yoore wourds and quivering shadows, and why , socrates?

  • I look at lyrics from all previous albums, including VT, and this one is just lame lyrically compared to the rest. I am a fan but this album just doesn't do anything for me other than depress. In fact, if you are diagnosed with depression I would recommend skipping this album it might push you over the edge.

  • dear anthem records, way way back when hey rocked. our far flung iron gates make no sense post-katrina. something is as flowing as the water, ebb, worst curves. Love, Bong

  • Yeah, you probably shouldn't speak, as no one knows what you're saying.

  • What are you smoking?

  • You'll notice he (or... it?) used the word 'Bong' in there, so I think we can do some resonable assumptions to figure out what, exactly, this fool has been smoking. He's not smoking salmon, I'm tellin' ya right now.

  • Write Neal Peart a letter, tell him to smarten up. Oh yeah, dont mention the fact that him and the guys have brought you tons of happiness over 30+ years. Great F'N song you slappy bastard.

  • I'm really kind of disappointed with this track. There is almost no sarcasn or deeper analysis... just a kind of lame "life sucks sometimes" feeling. He even gets close to contradicting freewill... disturbing.

  • while others only see the worst

such a lot of pain on the earth

dude that last line sounds great. I don't know about you, but this has to be my favorite song on this album beside far cry.

  • Me to that why i posted it.
