  • great vid. You should have a 73 at the front or back. That way you dont need the third rail. Did you use a kit for the lights in the 73 or is it your own design?

  • Some speed there.

  • I think your vid's are great. What is the overall length of your track, and what track are you using. i have to admit it has got me inspired to have a go at a garden layout. love your snow vid's by the way,

  • @heezabirddog Hmm do you know I have never actually measured the length of it to be honest. It was constructed round the perimeter of my little garden so i would say it's about 20 ft square. The track is all Peco Streamline Nickel Silver flexi track most of it using the concrete style sleepers hence the rather light colour.

  • Excellent vid and some very nice views of Bachmann's 4-CEP units - I love your layout! After seeing this I am very tempted to get a 4-cep, even though I'd been holding out for a refurbished unit! Just for info there's a company called Southern Pride which makes 4-CIG and 4-VEP units that would compliment SR layouts very well - I do seem to remember they were looking at refurb 4-ceps but I'm not sure if anything came of it.

  • Awesome mate very very cool set up.

Oh at 4.40sec "Two in a section" sack the Signalman or at least give him a form1.

Oh and the driver of the 2nd EMU , had the reds instead of a head code :)

LOL , I dont know just can't get the pretend staff these days :)

  • Ah.. yes i wondered who would spot that.. In actual fact if their is going to be a "joining" of units at a station you can technically have two in a section but this is a case of bad film editing on my part so no form 1's

  • My first 7105 arrived on the 12th. I have 4 kitbuilt emu,sa2HAP, 2EPB, and 2 MLVs.

I must build a small layout.

  • G'day Metadyneman I love your 4-CEP vid. I've been thinking of getting a four car set but may wait for a Jaffa cake liveried one. You've really had your share of snow this year haven't you,and what sort of paint do you use on your station platforms. I use an acrylic that is oil fortified and available in gloss or low sheen. I use low sheen.

    cheers,faulcon1.

  • I fear you may have a long wait for a "Jaffa cake" liveried one.. the 4-CEPs had all been re-built by the time "Jaffa Cake" livery arrived which alteredt the external and internal looks of these units. I don't think bachmann have any plans to produce a refurb unit but i may be wrong. The paint I use is Rustins exterior wood & metal paint It's not very good and I'm looking for a proper oil based Matt Black paint that is completely weatherproof. As yet i have not found what i want.

  • Great Work! Gives me inspiration to start on the SR portion of my layout, in addition to the LU "tube" section that I have running. I have the same two 4 CEP EMUs sitting in their boxes, but no track to put them on. BTW adding flash to the 3rd rail is quite easy to do if you can solder by the use of white LEDs and miniature magnetic reed switches. I have such a system working on 3rd and 4rth rail.

  • I've just had a gander at your vid of the Central Line. That is probably the best start/stop control I have ever seen of a model Tube train. I'm also impressed with the imitation flashing. I'm still unsure about installing 3rd rail in the garden as it needs to be fairly robust. Peco individulay "pots" dont look all that robust. I'm going to experiment with a short section over a few months to test it out. Thanks for your comments

  • I have spent a good part of my life drilling track and install ing 3rd and 4th rail. I use "Gorilla Glue", although locktite superglue will suffice. I find that it's quite robust, once installed and will survive quite a bit of mechanical stress. I use Lenz gold decoders exclusively, they have the silky slow motion and can stop very precisely. Believe me it is worth the effort of adding the 3rd rail and then simulating the flash going over points, etc.

  • I also have a green 73 i could use for rail tours is your 73 the only one you got

  • At the moment, yes it is. I have no plans to get another one.

  • Correction I have just bought an old Lima one in large logo blue!

  • thank you i will do that tonight then cheers

  • Hi Metadyneman, great vids and great stock, looking forward to getting 3 or 4 sets myself. Just as a quick thought. Whats the music you play in your videos?

    Keep up the good work.

  • I think I'm going to stick to two units especially in view of all the other stopck i have too. The music is The Next Dimension by Medwyn Goodall

  • i was just asking if the lights in the coaches stay on in this unit

  • Yes they do on DCC but will go out on DC. The interior lights can be switched on and off by pressing function 1 (F1) on a DCC controller

  • Really great clip, thanks for uploading. As you say one of the best Bachmann products ever and I am going to get a second set when finances permit. How did you find connecting them together though ? I didn't like the idea of laying them on their side and then putting all four on the track but can see why they did it - now wonder they give you a spare packet of connectors !!

    Hollpoll

  • I think the best way to connect them is not to be too frightened to use a bit of elbow. They went together fine for me using the no fear method. They have remained permanently coupled since purchase. The separate units run really well in tandem as an 8-car.

  • mine is still boxed,i dont want to break the couplings its a shame as its the best model i've ever brought i'll have to take the plunge all the best

  • I don't think you will have a problem. The coupling bars are quite strong they just take a little bit of effort to get in the coresponding socket, They supply two lengths of coupler bar one set slightly shorter than the other for closer coupling n layouts without tight curves but as the units do not have buffers within sets this is not really a problem

  • thanks mate ,all done its now on a running in turn ,superb : }

  • Great set-up.The closeups really brought back some memories.

  • Very impressive vid!!!! - liked the 'portion working'! - what dcc system do you use?

definately prefer the blue/grey livery, but will probably aquire green with yellow panels.

Think your class 171 is great, have just purchased a class 170 in swt - is the sound an addition?

  • I use the Bachmann Dynamis. It's basic but it works and comes at a reasonable price for what I want it to do. Believe it or not the 171 noise was picked up by the camera and is just the sound of the motor itself. No sound decoder in it at all! It's a lot quieter in reality.

  • PS... I'd love a ride in an A60 cab before they go, they share the year in which I was born and i've a few years left yet before they replace me :0)

  • @metadyneman

A ride 'upfront' will be my pleasure, I'm going to build layout in loft approx 16'x12' and am having difficulty deciding on which system to choose - digitrax or lenz....got to get nice camera - you have set the president with your vids!!!

  • I've heard good stories about both Lenz and digitrax. I had considered upgrading to the Gaugemaster system but I'v been very happy with the dynamis... a kind of, garden chair under sun parasol beer in one hand dynamis in the other.. sort of happy :0)

I;ll defo take you up on the offer too feel free to pm me and i'll give you my e-mail addie

  • great lay out not cluttered and so realistic . im moving my southern region layout to the shed as i want it bigger than it was keep up the good work and be lucky

  • Great Video. I Want The Blue And Grey One,Would Look Awesome Round My Garden Railway.

When I Get Paid In A Couple Of Weeks I Will Purchase....

  • You won't be disappointed! Probably the best model produced by Bachmann in terms of running quality I have ever had experience of.

  • Great Video Mate 5*, you should of done a unit drag with 73 and 4-CEP :-)

  • I have tried that in fact. With DCC you have to calibrate the speed/acceleration of the loco in tandem with the unit by adjusting CVs so the two don't fight each other. I'm almost there with the shoebox and a CEP and have succeeded with my bagpipe crompton so you will see it eventually.
