Padre Pio was given special dispensation from saying the Novus Ordo. But it was due to run out the next day, from what i was told by people who were there, and close to him.
If you look at his hands closely, in this video, you will see that the Stigmata is gone. It disappeared three days before he died. Its too bad this vid doesnt show the Elevation of the Host/Wine, its much clearer to see then.
St. Padre Pio wouldn't have said the Novus Ordo as it would be another year or so before it was introduced. Could this perhaps be the interim rite that I've heard so much about. If it were a traditional Mass, the subdeacon would be wearing a humeral veil during the Canon. A few things are done in this Mass that the rubrics of the traditional Mass simply don't prescribe. This is where conflicting reports come in, I've heard that he continued to say the traditional Mass...
Some say his wounds are self inflicted. And that as a neophyte priest, he had a dubious reputation. Hence, to go up the corporate ladder of the church, this stigmata thing was concocted and it worked! I think he will be declared (or is already) a saint.
It doesn't look like it, but the new Mass wasn't introduced until 1969, and this one was offered in 1968.
Padre Pio is offering Mass facing the people, although, it may be that he his offering the Latin Mass just turned around for the benefit of the congregation (perhaps knowing that he hadn't long to live?). Many of them look as though they've turned up for a good old look, rather than actually wanting to attend Mass.
im a catholic and id rather die than to convert to protestantism. i dont wanna be a member of a church founded only by man who reads bible make by catholic church! god bless!!
What a privelege it to live in the same life span and Padre Pio. God chose him to bear the wounds of Christ on the Cross. There is no other way to say it. "This Man is a Saint." Don't misunderstand me; there are saints in every religion but non but a Catholic has born the stigmata. He lived an exemplary life and I defy any one to prove different.
if you look very closely at his hands, especially at the Consecration of the bread and wine, you will see that the wounds of the Stigmata are gone. they disappeared 3 days before he died, but he went on wearing the fingerless gloves, so as not freak out the pilgrims.
It must have been amazing to have been in his presence, receive Holy Communion from him and especially if you were lucky enough to have him hear your confession. He would know if you left anything out and even ask you about it!. I read he would listen to confession up to 18 hours a day.
Pray for us st.padre pio..i would love to hear or see you in my dreams for inspiration..pls tell GOD we are sorry for the pain of sin we inflict

I met Padre Pio in 1985. 17 years after his death. This is the truth. His wounds are NOT self inflicted. This is very, very real. Believe me.

But I'm wondering if he would have said the interim rite, I believe from the 1965 Missal.

He is doing the Mass of his order. It is different from the Tridentine Mass.

God took him at the right moment, right before the implentation of the new mass. There were other priests who died in holiness, the same way.
