I loved being a kid in the 80's, we had cool computers like the superb C64 which the kids of today would most likely scoff at with they X-Box 360's and PS3's but in all honesty, the C64 is better than those anyday. Yes we had to wait for games to load and yes, saving our progress was not possible but I didn't care, the games were brilliant and the loading music was and still is superb. Next to the Amiga the C64 was and is the best computer in years.
I was around 6yrs old back in '88 when I was playing with C64, and this tune is something I remember like yesterday :) just awesome. If anyone remembers, was this tune in begining of some Rambo ???
They say that music is the soundtrack to our lives. Well, this is certainly the soundtrack to my childhood. I'm 34 now but hearing this it takes me back to being 12 or 13 again. Hmmmm, not great really but some great times were had with the old 64 and Martin Galway's music. In these modern times, you don't get "loading music" any more. Damn shame. This is actually a bone fide classic. Remember the times when you even got games to play when you were waiting for the game to load?
@TheSacredTurf you're right. Loading music was the good stuff. Two years ago when I was installing Test Drive Unlimited I had the same felling as when I was a child - I was waiting but was damn happy and excited about the game because of the music (and this game installs about 10 minutes). So the feeling was very similar... well... I wasn't scared about the Load Errors :)
@draconpost Thankfully loading errors are (sort of) a thing of the past. But I'm dismayed when I'm installing games today and all I get is a static screen with a loading bar. I mean, game devs had better ideas in the 80's and this is what we get now? A blank screen with a loading bar? Come on...
@TheSacredTurf good point, although some later game companys are/were known for more colorful installing screens, Westwood (RIP) and Blizzard to name a few
@MissPeggle It looks like we all have Martin Galway to thank for that. Everytime I hear the SID or Mr. Galway's music it really takes me back to a different age. But, unlike most nostalgia, it's a good thing!
it is the soundtrack of our childhoods and anyone from around 25 to 45 will appreciate and recall these loader tracks and immediately be put back in time, in someone's bedroom ...chilling while the game is loading.
@viciouswhips For me, listening to these tracks isn't just about nostalgia but just appreciating GREAT TUNES. I mean, they're just great damn pieces of music, regardless of technology or instrumentation. Great work, Martin Galway!
@TheSacredTurf I agree wholeheartedly. Just clicked in here and got shivers, remembering how I would sometimes load games from cassette just to hear the Ocean Loader. Rambo comes to mind.
@BrokenHaiku Rambo was fantastic but the main title music from Times Of Lore has to be Martin Galway's masterpiece. Not loading music, I know, but it was a nine minute track with randomized guitar solos at the end. Amazing.
I remember this excellent music while loading Hyper Sports, I actually stopped the tape once during loading on purpose as the the music was interrupted normally by the game loading (I'm sad), but the music on the Hyper Sports main page was awesome too. For a 1982 computer, the Commodore 64 SID sound chip was amazing although it wasn't fully utilized until 1984 when Rob Hubbard started writing music for it. Various other good music writers appeared shortly after like David Whittaker.
Weird time signatures that work brilliantly well.

We used to love this tune so much that we'd stop the tape while the game was loading, just to get the full version. LOVED IT!! Still do ;)
