In WC:III:FT Kael led what used to be the high elves to serve Illidan post-sunwell and they became the Blood Elves, however many of these blood elves (including the playable blood elves in WoW) splintered off from Kael's leadership due to his growing insanity and manalust. These blood elves, due to the efforts of the paladin general, made an alliance with the Na'aru in which they fed off of their power until they were able to find a new manasource.

The high elves are empowered by arcane energy aka blue eyes. There is actually a highly distinct difference between the two.

Yes kael'thas renamed the blood elves sin'dorei but they also changed physically after the destruction of the sunwell, where the high elves found other sources of arcane magic rather than fel magic which the blood elves used.

@kylefont1 You are both wrong actually. The only difference between a Quel'dorei or a Sin'orei is the name. Sin'dorei were created long before they tasted fel magic, in the end they are both addicted to a form of arcane. The models in wow do not show it but a lot of the Sin'dorei have not taken in Fel magic. So a lot still wouldn't have green eyes. One race is with the horde and honors their fallen. The other is with the alliance. Both tangled with demons.

Alexstrasza's previous model on the Wotlk beta was one of a high elf with red hair and the red cloth robe from the Sunwell patch. :D

just to clear up the Black dragonflight useally use Human forms or on odd chance Dwarf forms Blue use Human forms aswell as High elf forms Red use high elf forms aswell Green use Night elf forms and Bronze high elf form and Gnome form some times they go other races but thats the prime ones, also it isnt blood elf forms cause the dragon took the forms of the oldest races being at the time High elf and humans, the greens took up Night elves cause of the connection to emerald dream via Druids.

So she has to keep up the numbers or the race will go extinct. However, when Sylvanas raises the dead, they awaken with their OWN free will and NOT a part of the scourge like the Lich King did, which is why that title is simply ridiculous.
