  • It's me again, Mary, and yes I just have to have my "fix" of Tony Christie. It's going to be a long and busy weekend with the kids, shuttling them around and cleaning the house. At least I can dream, can't I? Tony, if you read this, be happy you make this FL housewife happy for a few minutes each day. God bless you!

  • Wheneven I'm feeling down, like this week, I play this video and dream of Tony Christie! I listen to it a lot and I just can't take my eyes off him! Even though he's as senior citizen now, he'll remain "forever young" in my heart! Hats off to Mr. Fitzgerald!

  • the texas town made famous by sedaka and tony christie because it rhymed with the words pillow and willow.......

  • @asd36f yeah, as long as you pronounce amarillo wrong - as tony christie does in this song :)

  • @MillyVanillification

So how is he supposed to pronounce it? I've been to Amarillo and they pronounce it exactly as Tony Christie does...

  • @MillyVanillification Amarillo is pronouced NASCAR

  • Repris en francais par Ringo "cinderella"

  • This is the only version that I like.

  • NICE. :)

  • fantastic singer and song

  • Make me happy....

  • Oddly, most people who live in Amarillo Texas have never heard of this song!

Usually songs about US towns get some kind of airplay, especially in the town itself - but not this one.

It's a strange case of marketing that runs outside the UK and Europe, but are disregarded for North American release.

It's very common as well for this and other songs to have big hits on one continent and is unheard of on the other.

  • I disagree. Most people from Amarillo Texas did hear this song in era it was released. I should know. I am from that era and I remember it well.

  • I lived in Clovis, NM for about 3 years in the early 1980s and I never heard it once. We used to be able to get Amarillo radio stations. I must admit in all that time I visited Amarillo itself only a few times.

But I guess you are right in that it was only popular in the era it was made and that's something I couldn't know.

  • Do most of them like this song in Texas?

  • @speedbird007 they hate it

  • @barneyboscoe Why?, prob becouse it makes Amarillo sound like a lovely Tropical Island, rather than the desert shack town it is.

  • @speedbird007 most people in america have never heard of him...

  • so sweet!

  • whenever i think of texas this song plays in the back of my head.

  • yeah same here

  • happy feel good track gets the feet tapping

  • This is from my earliest childhood....but that voice...what a voice

  • Lunches at College were never complete until someone played this on the pub jukebox & we all had a sing along... and that was only in 2006!!

  • I just love his music and this is a great video shows how good looking he is ;)

except for that annoying circle in the middele..grrr

  • you mean is mouth?

  • What a melodious and fantastic song. One of the best hits of the early 70's.

  • this song brings back nostalgia in the 70's.What an era it was.Its as if time stood still..........

  • This song reminds me of when i was about 5 years old...early 1970's? i think i was playing with my GI Joe....with Kung fu grip.

  • I'd be sweet Marie anyday

  • this is the one that those guys are miming at. isn't he handsome?
