  • GOD.. I almost started to be an a relationship with a guy that looked just like Trent Reznor.. O.O but.. I decided over someone else cus I love this someone else.

  • Infinitely better than the Terminator Version.

  • This song reminds me of how i felt after my dad died....

  • @23cornchip I know what you mean. This song gave me a lot of comfort and peace when my father passed.

  • @MsPobuda thanks for that man.

  • 1. pause this and open new tab

    2. pull up google and search for "rainymood" and click the first link

    3. switch back to youtube tab and play TDTWWA

adds a serene touch to an already amazing song

  • @theotherSustainiac dude .. pure win . !!!

  • @theotherSustainiac Wow...just...WOW. Thanks, man.

  • @theotherSustainiac thats unreal, thanks for the heads up :-)

  • I love you, Daniel Thomas;!

  • p.s. sorry about ur grandmother, im sure sheez waiting for u in heaven, as is my uncle danny, if heaven is where im going. heh.

  • i can understand ryanjofre, the day my uncle danny died, for me the whole world went away.

  • Bade ass

  • its the sound of the universe

  • Epic

  • This takes me to a warm beautiful place with lots of pretty flowers and love and warmth and... idk. It's like having a warm blanket wrapped around you.

  • every time i go to a video, for one of my favorite songs there are ALWAYS long comments about "How this is so much more meaningful than it shows" or "How its not about depression" or (which i hate) "story's of there life (which COULD always be made up) were they had a break up or abuse or sappy stuff like that" or a bunch of arguments.... -_-

  • ONLY ONE WORD CAN DESCRIBE THIS MASTERPIECE: PERFECTION!!!

  • The Nine Inch Nails are about more than deepest depressions that the human condition creates. No, not creates but simply is. As is the heights of our lives we must learn what it is to become nothing, to become fragile and understand the emptiness man may experience from life. Yet, in all coincidence through the journey many of us have taken with NIN over the years, an amazing thing has occured through this music.

The contrast between the lowest and highest points we find what we knew all along.

  • (no fitting words of praise could be typed for this song)

  • the more i listen to Trent Reznors Tracks, I get favorites after favorites! He is the real Master of Industrial Sounds!

  • @MickeyNox74

great and agree bud. But have a listen to Not the Love We Dream Of or For the Rest of My life By Gary Numan from his new CD Dead Son Rising.. utter brilliance, great production and same level of production where Industrial Sounds are concerned. Enjoy bud.

  • Love the title, love the lyrics, love the song... It's divine.

  • This song make me wanna live my life.

  • @IzabellaRitaSzendi whats stopping you?

    you are.

  • Favorite albulm is Pretty hate machine followed up by The Fragile, a couple of years ago I was in San Antonio in a mall buying The Fragile albulm once more due it being so scratched from over use, anyways when i opened it up it had 4 cds. Two copies of left and two copies of right, lmao that was just tooo cool.

  • The Fragile is a highly underrated album. Don't know why fans dislike this one. Hopefully one day a 20th anniversary edition of The Fragile is released with all remixes and quiet versions on a third disc along with a DVD with 5.1 version of the album and videos. The whispering at the beginning of the song is pretty creepy, but I mean that in a good way. The building of the song in the start is great. The remix goes well with this video. Good job.

  • i love how he can use his emotions and his voice is beautiful trent is a god!!

  • I don't know why, but this song makes me think about all the things I want to do.. It's like "Don't waste your time, you idiot, stop thinking and LIVE" oh Reznor, you have no idea how you inspire me

  • This song made me shake in weakness because of all its power

  • Is there anywhere i can buy this version?

  • Very powerful song . Fucking love it.

  • Behold, my favorite song of all-time. So many memories attached to this one song that I don't know how they all fit in a 5 minute and 20 second stretch of time, but they do.

  • gave me chills

  • Comment removed

  • Um, yeah its good.... did and still doing the alternate reality thing but do not see the relationship.

Yeah, wow, trippy, spacial, memories .. .. blah blah

Its good Trent WAS good, You guys are just as good...

Oh and just to shit that other guy

    BE EPIC people !!!

  • This version of the song reminds me of the sinking of the Titanic. Even the name explains it all because for me, I can imagine the 1,500 people who were left stranded on the ship during her final moments all feeling like it was literally the end of the world for them. The sad, slow, and meloncholy tune just fits perfectly.

  • actually "AMAZING" is the #1 most overused word of the last year or two. "EPIC" is most likely a close second. though, don't ya know, this last decade the human race has gone into a steep decline of becoming Xerox copies of Xerox copies. less and less people have a mind of their own every day! but wait! here comes Sharon Osbourne with a "STUPENDOUS" or "BREATHTAKING". WOO! GO SHARON!

  • @birddogbull

amazing is actualy not that popular over the internet. More like "Awesome". Kids these days scream "AWESOME!!!" even if they see a monkey digging in her butthole..

  • @IrbisPL okay, so awesome is the most overused on the internet. amazing is on television. I'd like to know what is on the radio, but radio just sucks too much to find out.

  • @birddogbull

yeah. Radio nowadays sucks too much :( i used to love radio years ago.

  • I always hated how short this song was. I could literally swim in this! Brings back memories of early 2000's. lol!

  • simply love this song

  • This is missing the beginning of the track :/

  • This is probably the only NIN song that makes me feel very peaceful.

  • @vetiarvind really? what about hurt or everything in its place?

  • There are days when this song is the only thing that makes sense to me

  • I step back from superficial bullshit and let this song lay in front of me. Like a butterfly telling me the true tale of nature, and all that could have been.

  • Comment removed

  • this song has nothing to do with religion! so many of you are wrong. it's about the repercussions of someone being a fake ass poser to gain acceptance, living a lie, and what happens in most cases when the true self comes back out. people will abandon you, you will find yourself alone again, if everything that was gained, was done so by wearing a mask.

  • @birddogbull:

Pretty sure it's public knowledge that Reznor wrote this song after his grandmother passed away...

Just because many of his songs mean what you described doesn't mean that *all* of them do.

  • @ashengrail ahhh, are there any actual articles on this?

  • Comment removed

  • To me it was always had a sort of "Where the Sidewalk Ends" meaning. To me, it was just about forgetting about the fucked up nature of the world and going to places where the world sort of "goes away." But it wasn't just that. Loss, memory, love, this song means a lot of things to me.

  • just such a haunting song

  • I want this song played at my funeral

  • I'm so tired of the overuse of the word Epic...come on kids, please expand your Horizons...please!

This is the definition of Sublime. I'll be 32 in Aug(ouch) and I've been a fan of Reznor/NIN since two of the greatest songs ever...*.Head Like a Hole and Closer*. As a Recovering Alcoholic/Addict it's amazing to be able to take these Spiritual journeys stone cold sober and vibe with great Music.

When my Grandmother died that was truly the day the whole world went away.

    Namaste

  • @ryanjofre congrats on being sober. Sorry about your grandmother losing a loved one is a lost that time dosen't heal but lucky for us great music such as Nine Inch Nails keeps us going till we end up in the afterlife. Im not a strong beliver in god but i do belief that there is a afterlife. Either in heaven or another form i still belive because life after death noone understands till the day that they die.

  • @ryanjofre is that you Trent?

  • @ryanjofre Epic... I'm sure when you were a kid there was a word like epic you overused. You're the type of person who just doesn't like anything from the next generation.

  • @PhoenixXlegends "epic" is truly overused.

you just may have not been exposed to that overuse enough to consider it to be true.

  • @PhoenixXlegends

good point. but look at his age. this is when people really starts to think they've been living like hundreds of years and they now everything about anything and they are old and expirienced. those ppl i always send to talk with my grandfather (he is 98 years old) who actualy fought in BOTH World Wars and and came back alive, to learn the true meaning of the term "life expirience" heh

  • @IrbisPL Your grandfather was 4 when WW1 ended

  • @rammo123

    huh? O.o

  • @ryanjofre this song is the sound of the universe

  • @ryanjofre Awesome, good for you, I just cleaned up from a nasty heroin then methadone then heroin to get off the methadone addiction, it took 2 years, I am so glad its over, I was in hell........and now, well, let's just say things are better and the grass is always greener on the sober side!!!! I have been listening to NIN since 1992 when Trent came out with songs like `Wish` and `Happiness in Slavery`, I have always vibed to NIN and TOOL, Trent and Maynard, but doing it sober is way better!!

  • @SHAWNWILD1 good job man clean time is difficult to get i know from experience

  • @monkeymanNr1 14+ years clean & sober...funny how we gravitated here. All the "Quiet" NIN stuff has recently become my PERFECZT DRUG...very cool indeed.

    Stay strong .

    Stay healthy.

    Stay true to yourself.

  • @SHAWNWILD1

10 yeears and even alive and sober now! Stay this way, as I do so too - with Trent, Dave G. and some others on my side...

  • @ryanjofre namaste

  • @ryanjofre now that is something you hardly can expect from the kids nowadays - depth, in behaving and in thinking. some of them seem to have lost it even before they were born, most of them might never get it..a shame imho - sometimes those youtube comments, posted under whatever video and by whomever are a pretty good mirror of what kind of generations will take the presidency's seat or become Chancellor and politicians...again imho - maybe completely offtopic? lol ima enjoy the song now ;)

  • @FabianBajorat Don't even act like you had any depth as a kid. It's funny how the older act condescending to kids just because these kids don't use developed vocabulary. Not only that, but you went way off subject ranting about how you are worried about them becoming leaders in the future because they aren't matured yet. Stop taking everything so seriously and quit patronizing. Whatever word they use, they are still showing the same appreciation of this music as everyone else.

  • Never claimed, I had the depth of today when i was a kid. Acting condescending and realizing/noticing something and expressing that is a huge difference. I realized something and concluded it in my first post. The politicians of tomorrow will be even more shallow, uninterested in their fellow citizens and even more incapable of leading people compared to the ones we have today. that is what worries me and that is why i do take things seriously, because i live in this world.how bout you?

  • @FabianBajorat I just find it funny how you flew off topic and are judging off how kids are expressing themselves using words like "epic". It's completely irrelevant. Besides, you should worry more about the current incompetent politicians we have today instead of the future. And yes, I am worried. Sorry if I was rude, but I just hate how people generalize my generation.

  • @ryanjofre i hear ya i just turned 32 on nov 9 and i know how you feel NIN is my favorite band ever his words bring tears to my eyes everytime i listen. i wish you the best and recovery is hard but you seem to have the strength to get by i wish you the best. Long Days and Pleasent Nights dear sir

  • @ryanjofre cool story bro

  • @ryanjofre im in recovery to step 9 stuff like this keeps me clean and it did

  • This is one of the few songs I learned to play on the piano. Beautiful.

  • please, any reference to what this song is about?

  • Nine Inch Nails - The Day The World Stood Still ..... "Whoooooa"

  • altered

  • If we stay the course we are dead, we are all dead!!!

  • Trent Reznor is brilliant. His compositions take you on a spiritual trip. Sometimes those trips take some scary detours. But there is always a sense of humanity in even his darkest explorations. His evolution as an artist over the years is wonderful to behold. His images are as powerful as his music. I would love to see him direct a feature film and write the score as well. His visual sense is poetic and dramatic, especially his more lucid moments like this video.

  • This song inspires a whole movies worth of content in itself. Shouldn't be a backing track to the movie. The movie should be a backing track to it.

  • I imagine my love slowly turning into dust and getting blown away at the end of the song..Makes me unbearably sad..I guess this means that she means the world to me.

  • 47 Wankers :)

  • is there a download link??? This is badass :D

  • I think the Quiet version of "The Day The Whole World Went Away" is better than the original 1999 The Fragile album version.

  • @Sean19a7x2 Religion and faith and understanding the story of Christ are 3 different things. The institution has been corrupted, true... Also, I wasn't speaking on him, the artist. And I think if you don't see any parallel to the story of Christ in here, you don't want to see it or you are blind.

  • Here's a thought: Imagine this video, the lyrics and the music video images, representing Jesus' descending to Earth (the feather falling), and then resurrecting (the feather going back up)... and the black snake being the Devil and tempatation in the desert. "The sweetest price he'll have to pay... the day the whole world went away..." the day Jesus descended down to Hell to save past prophets and to suffer our sins for us. "It eats the fear, it eats the pain" Jesus Christ's blood... ???

  • @UltimaSlacker He's not religious, it's corrupt and causes too many problems in the world. This song is about his grandmother Clara, who passed away suddenly. He put it off and didn't deal with it, which he regretted. That's probably what inspired him to write this amazing song.

  • This song is so underrated... True, basher songs are awesome, and who does it like Nine Inch Nails? But, the uniqueness of this take on things and what it brings to mind, especially in light of how they use it for a movie about the "end of humanity", well... when we die out, it'll be very quiet... for US, not for everything else... so, why not honor that? Makes sense to me...

  • 46 WANKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TennyMedia 47 wankers lol!

  • Dedicated to Harold Camping for another failed prediction! ahahaha!

  • The best thing about poetry, only the poet understands it. Everyone else can try to interpret what it means, they can dig into every detail of the words cited, the writer themselves can even give you a story as to what the words mean, but it will always remain an enigma to anyone but the person who wrote it.

  • 46 people should be raptured. Leave the rest of us alone with our good music.

  • @TheSilverStardust i Completely agree. Tho Trents ability to captivate our Senses with Multi- tones and Loud Fillers, His Quiet stuff holds the same impact sometimes even more.

  • Check out my video Dark Logic my first attempt at video and all music!

  • trents lyrics are NOT open to interpretation you idiot. what poet writes something and says ah! think of this as you will, thats why i made it!

  • Have you ever just not wanted a song to end? Experiencing that now.

  • hey, i've done a interpretation of "all the love in the world".

would be glad if you just could give it a look and rate because it's recently the only accoustic cover on youtube (at least i believe so). and yes it has some mistakes in it but i'm okay with that. ;)

    also don't mind the pronounciation.

    /watch?v=aO-wTtBtOFI

  • i am going to eat somw chiken now

  • beauty.

  • If i could i'd marry Trent Reznor's hands

    and his brain

    and his face...

okay, this is just getting weird

  • If i could i'd marry Trent Reznor's hands

  • This song is about Trent's grandfather dying, hence the references to the words "He'd" say. He lost both his grandparents while recording The Fragile. "I'm Looking Forward to Joining You, Finally" is the song for his grandmother.

  • @lollerkittenz hers is lights in the sky

  • @TheSilverStardust silence is deafening

  • @BlackrebelMC83 no problem..... and, just to let you know, the original starts off with a bunch of na, na, na's...

  • Reznor is a better composer and producer but as for songwriter and singer....got to go to Maynard. Trent is a musical mastermind though!

  • this isn't the original TDTWWA track, thought i was losing my mind for a minute. this is off the Still lp... the original can be found on TDTWWA single and We're In This Together, disc 2 i believe.

  • @ninjunkie13 Yeah "the fragile"

  • @shukaku No... The Fragile has the final cut of this song, the one in particular i'm talking about is on The Day The World Went Away single. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.

  • @BlackrebelMC83 it was released on The Day The World Went Away single, then again on a 3 part disc, which is usually found as a box set.

  • I like some NIN, but most of Trent reznor's work is just a bunch of emo noise

  • my name is john connor

  • Marilyn Manson is much better :P

  • @M0rbidly Marilyn Manson, is an image developed by posers whom think that acting like a total freakin' creep, dressing in womens clothes and writing disturbing lyrics, means that you are expressing yourself. In the end it is all just a meaningless image that kids want to look like. NIN is meaningful beautiful music all about true self expression. To sum up... screw you, Marilyn Manson sucks.

  • @shadowofthevoid69 I don't mind :P But MM has more success. And know much about him, believe me ;)

I wouldn't say something like this if i didn't know anything :P I didn't say i hate NIN :) I like them but personally i think MM is much better :)

  • @M0rbidly Wow, I really feel like an idiot now. Sorry I blew up with that comment I guess. Marilyn Manson always just kinda annoyed me. I understand how you would feel like that if you are informed about an artist. I feel very strong about NIN because of how much I know about it and Trent so I guess you can truely appreciate MM more than me. So sorry I take back the whole screw you thing. :)

  • @shadowofthevoid69 in a way you kind of contradict yourself, you say that marilyn manson is a creep, so is trent, and trent reznor and marilyn manson produce music together as they are pasttime best friends, some marilyn manson songs are worked with trent reznor, and some NIN songs are with the help of MM, so their is a connection between trent and manson

  • I lisssten toooooooo the words he saiiiiiiid

  • This is the first time i've listened to this song, and it leaves me shattered. I've honestly never felt a song touch me to the core of my being this way. Trent's a genius.

  • This song is so depressing I can hardly stand it, but its so beautiful.

  • this is mind shattering. makes me think of all the time i have wasted through the course of my life, all the things i wanna do before i die and how frustrating it is to watch life flow and disappear right in front of you. but it's just beautiful to realize how this song enters you in such a sweet way

  • @arcticmonkeyzzz interesting comment like it like the delivery. when your in the moment and a song captures that feeling that essence and you can relate its humbling peaceful

  • @travsarnoldpump couldn't agree more

  • this man clearly understands the true nature of what is called depression

  • Wow Old time rock n roller just been listening to a lot of these lyrics WOW gonna end up in B ward with doc phil or on Dope again if I keep this up! A lot of the emotion that comes out with addiction shows in a lot of these tunes! always a different view from the bottom looking up or out ! I have many near death exp's and it can be a positive exp. or an over whelming one. I FEEL a lot of it here. Rick Wichita Kansas Positive Today!

  • @ChestrCopperpot shut the fuck up spit wad lol

  • ahh terminator

  • @ynattirbelise I've been listening to NIN for nearly 14 years now and my life has changed a lot since I first heard them. So many things are different now, I am different, but then..... when things become bad, when I regain my perspective, I am there again, Floating in that place. NIN and especially this song is always in the background to my life, pulsing like a heartbeat. I may not always be aware of it, but it's always there, and without it I would surely be dead.

  • In the beginning, where's the "Nah, nah nah nah..." from the single? My daughter has loved this version since she was four and used to sit in the back of the car and sing along to the nah-nah part in my rear view mirror. (Yikes, don't anyone judge me for playing nin for my girl.)

  • it's songs like this, and hurt, hat i wish would play on forever...

  • Im not gay, but if i was i would totally want trents nuts

  • these song's lyrics are universal because they talk about a FEELING, and since all humans have feelings it's quite easy to relate to it but at the same time you are able to have your own interpretation of it. this is the difference between a mediocre songwriter and a great one.

  • lets face it, hes just fucking wonderful!

  • to me this song teases me. when will the world go away..........

  • @defiant636 I know. I'm assuming 'the place that still remains' is the will to live and put on a plastic face. I guess he's talking about suicide.

  • @weebeastiebaby I heard he wrote that after his granny died actually...

  • HUGE HANDS!!!!

  • I love the original, but I prefer this version. Depending on my mood it makes me laugh and cry at the same time.

  • I love NIN i have my own solo music thing im trying and trent is my big inspiration im not the best in the world but could i have other peoples opinion on it? its at myspace /rankoffall

  • Very good song.

  • deep

  • where can i find this version(quiet) ???

  • @grimmmm1 on "HALO 13 : The Day The World Went Away"

    .

It's single release and contains three songs ("original version", "quiet version" and song "starfuckers, inc.")

  • @grimmmm1 itunes

  • This song is so beautiful , It makes me dreaming , flying...I love NIN !!!

  • 41 people may have chosen the wrong pill...

  • Greatest track on the Terminator Salvation OST. :D I like this one better though regardless it's meaning and impact are still just as powerful.

  • Beautiful and meaningful song

  • @dhellbilly

    1) That was one comment that said that, not "every page."

    2) For the love of God check your spelling and grammar.

    3) Trent Reznor's grandmother, who raised him, perished. Thus we have this song and the Deceased Grandmother Connection

    4) The brilliance in NIN's lyrics lie in how open to interpretation they are. One song could have several different meanings. Not so cut and dry as other artists.

    5) The only person who left a comment which sounded stupid is you.

  • @spidersean43 shit... ivoted down by accident. Goddamit. Hope it fixed itself. I'never forget listening to this at my fathers office at Mather AFB in Sacramento right after Halo 13 was released. One of my ablsolutely, most cherished songs of all time.

  • @spidersean43 Also made "Lights in the sky" for her as well

  • @spidersean43 amen to that

  • Lot of Australian flora in this clip. Banksias mostly. Even the single cover art looks like it was based on a Kangaroo Paw (a flower). I wonder what that's all about.
