I make my own money now anyway I can under the table, because if they are going to allow this Country to be ran this way, then they get NOTHING in taxes from me. I can be "Greedy" too, just like the big shots!
I am 40 & haven't worked in three & a half years after working for 23 years, because of this, no one will hire me. I do have health problems, but Employers avoid me at every cost, so.....I now live on SSD and the United Fucking States Government pays my rent being they won't stop this bullshit!.
@townkevin59 That's horrible. Most people today don't have a good credit rating and it doesn't take long as most people live from paycheck to paycheck. My fiance is an engineer and he didn't qualify to work for defense but so may companies are checking this. Having bad credit is not stealing and employers shouldn't be allowed to ask for a credit check. It's discrimination because like you said you have health problems and if you owe a hospital they will find this out.
If you file bankruptcy, and an employer pulls your credit report and don't hire you, That is a violation of the bankruptcy code. If that happens to me, I am sueing.
personal life has nothing to do with work ethics. It has been proven more that someone with good credit that ends up with money problems will steel before someone with nothing to lose anymore. Most people in HR can't even read a consumer report correctly anyway. IT IS DISCREMINATION AT ITS BEST.
I disagree with you on this one...i'm subject to constant credit checks and considering my occupation it's understandable so I think that it's likely based upon ( or should be based upon ) what job a person has. If you work someway with "money" ( being client driven or otherwise ) it's a consideration of trust on a clients part to a business.
Do you feel that HR should have done a credit check for your position? I think a criminal background check is necessary especially in the health field.
Yea...because of my relationship with my clients and my own personal interest financially it's important that constant credit checks are done for me....I wouldn't be allowed to work without them and it's cool. It protects myself as well as others. I agree....absolutely background checks are needed in healthcare.
Lowes, Homedepot, BestBuy, Costco, Circuit City and Walmart all use credit reports. These jobs are not the best in terms of salary. Yet even these companies ask for a credit report. What I would like to know is how come we can bail out the banks in times of trouble but we screw the working class? If I can't work what am I to do? I have to pay back a college education which cost me $60k. How can I do this?
I agree they are not the best in terms of salary and it is rather appalling and it is an outrage for that shitty job-Walmart. My friend said it should be called, "The Great Wal-Mart of China." Re: Question, we don't hire lobbyists to bribe the Congressman who are supposed to serve us. It's not a democracy because I wouldn't have bailed the banks out. I am sure they aren't bailing the people out that are in foreclosure status. You have to work, I know.
Regarding the credit score, when someone pulls a report and does not give you a loan, its assumed that they found something to convince them that they should not extend credit to you. So whenever your credit report is pulled out of curiosity by employers, it DOES lower your credit score because there will be no corresponding credit account shown on your report.
Yes, it does lower your credit score and it should be illegal. I did research on this at EEOC and this is up for debate. It really is a discriminatory practice.
I'm a Resident Alien in the States. I've been here for 5 years. I've paid a lot of taxes, have never bounced a check or anything. And yet, I don't have a credit rating. It's not that it's a bad rating, it's just that it doesn't exist. And there is no difference between a bad score and a non-existing one. It is ridiculous to me to think that any employer would make assumptions on me based on that misinformation.
It is almost better to have bad credit instead of no credit at all. Sad to say! I would start off with a $500. limit on a credit card just so you have a credit history. Paying electric bills on time also establishes credit. Good luck! I don't think it is right that they do a background check of this sort.
I had to get a credit check to get my apartment & when my wife & I bought our minivan. Even my schooling had to do a credit check for me to attend there.
It seems like its moving us closer to the 'mark of the beast'...
I hear you! What is so shocking, many people have a low credit score. Most people want to clear their credit up. In order to do this, one needs to show that they are paying their landlord on time.
And they gotta pay thier bills on time too... I know... I had bad credit & had to beg for help from my parents. Of course I worked my ass off for them afterwards! :-)
You see people are now starting to talk and that is great. We must ask questions if we want to find real answers. I feel there is a lawyer some where in the mix. It may be legal but, who and when did did this happen and real why?
Even if they don't ask for your credit report, the employer can do their own personal check. You know how easy it is just by being on the internet. Is it worth fighting for when they can still do this behind one's back? Probably not! You can email the EEOC. Just type in Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. You can also email your Senator/Senators of your state.
Thanks Ryan for commenting! The EEOC even did studies that someone who applies for a teller position in a bank there is no correlation that someone is going to steal because they have bad credit.
You see this is what can happen when we gave them this right. I no some one will say they have done a study but, who funded it. This should not be allowed and we let them do this all the time.
Well, I think more people should not sign for authorization to allow employers to check their credit history. As a nurse today with experience, we don't have to because of the shortage of nurses. They even offer sign on bonuses up to $10,000.
I make my own money now anyway I can under the table, because if they are going to allow this Country to be ran this way, then they get NOTHING in taxes from me. I can be "Greedy" too, just like the big shots!

I hope they consider it discrimination. These days I don't think anyone would be hired if it was based on good credit.

Even for jobs like bank teller or Brinks truck driver, a low credit score does not mean someone is a thief.

A company is like a engine or machine.
The components are the employees.
They cherry-pick among a pool of perspective applicants, like shopping for the cheapest, but best well running 'cogs'.
You're not going to install a defective fuel pump in your engine, are you?
Great info, thank you.
