the song is necessarily suicidal. the beginning is "one day i woke up knowing to day is the day that i die". it simply means that he, for some unknown reason, will die that day. why the fuck would he kill himself when he obviously loves his life and loves being alive? whatever the reason is, suicide doesn't actually seem very plausible.

I don't really understand this song. Is it about a terminal illness and accepting it? Is it about suicide? Is it about realising death is a peaceful end? @tomhoy94 What he's saying is that death is freedom from his hard life. He isn't speaking of suicide, because he wrote a whole song against that ("hold on"). Also he is a Christian, so he believes he will go to Heaven when he dies. That gives him even more of a view that death is true freedom. Basically he just means death is a sweet escape from this crazy world and he looks forward to it.

I cried everyday for several weeks, and still cry from time to time. And I only knew him for 4 years. Imagine his family and parents! There's a wound there that will never heal.
