I can't believe this video is four years old today!
Co-incidentally, I happen to be working on a much improved and extended version of this scene at the moment as a bit of an experiment which might find it's way onto my channel at some point.
I quite like the shiny textures, they don't have em on set of course because the reflections would be a liability. The cardboard background Daleks are a nice touch too.
i hope they will do a complete CGI-reconstruction of the missing doctor who episodes, complete bastards whoever was in charge in junking the episodes!
it is because th person that made it is really clever and has made it look authentic cus in th story th daleks in th bkground were cardboard cutouts and there were only 4 full sized daleks bk then
I have adjusted the set and this Dalek model is a bit out of date, my most recent model has far better texturing. This was pretty much my first animation. Glad you liked it. Oh, and the little touches like the cardboard Daleks are what make it fun. ;-)
Bad transition from when it was only a couple of seconds, not enough movement of the Daleks (therefore visually uninteresting), old Dalek models (my most recent Daleks are much more accurate), old set (which has been re-built), incorrect placement of cardboard Daleks, etc.
wow, this is something that i would love to see redone. Do well enough and get noticed and you may even get onto a DVD as a special feature (not likely, though if you managed to recreate an entire lost serial such as this one, it would probably get you noticed.)
Oh my God I can't believe this....This is what we've been waiting for. I'm lucky enough to have seen this story back in '66 and this is a dream come true. OK, it's not perfect yet but it IS bloody awseome. Please please please reconstruct as much of this story as you can. What I love is that you're keeping it as close to the original as you can. Cheers mate...
I'm speechless...and waiting impatiently now for more.
That was gobsmacking! I've only just started to look at YouTube, and the 1st thing I searched was Dr Who - and came across you via The Mindrobber. Your animation is amazing - as good as anything I've seen produced professionally. My only criticism (there's always one!), is that when the Daleks reach their crescendo it sounds like a lot more than 4 of them, so it might have been good to have the others in the room joining in visually too - but I don't know if your laptop could take the strain!!
Cracking stuff. Excellent work. What program do you use, Lightwave or Maya? This is not critisism, but I would be tempted to get rid of the original cut out daleks, and render the whole scene, as your Daleks look great! Just think,If all us animators got together on these old clips, we would have the missing episodes re-constructed in no time eh?
Excellent stuff! Just a few things I can really say that would make it any better, a film grain, slight softening of the image, the dalek arm movement is too smooth to be the real props, and I can't seem to see any light reflections off of the dalek lights.
Thanks, constructive criticism is appreciated and taken onboard. I have changed things since this was posted (like smoother, yet more realistic animation, for example) but I haven't rendered it yet as this clip took an entire week on my poor laptop!
Just ideas, I know what its like to have backseat drivers when you're doing 3D work. One other thing I thought of is because exists clips are from film copies the picture would have a natural movment called gate weave, added this in post would really help sell it as the real thing.
No, criticism is appreciated. How else would I get better?
How does one apply this gate weave? I'll consider trying anything which improves the realism. I'm more interested in making the footage look like the original 32mm film inserts rather than the 16mm film recordings which currently exist.
Thanks, but you're too generous. I can (and probably anyone else that animates) see plenty of faults in my work, particularly this clip as it was my first. I've only been doing CGI for a year but I am slowly getting better, I think.
This is superb. There are several of us around all doing little bits of Power scenes in different ways. All the clips should all go into the next version unofficial telesnap recon.
those dalek extras arnt real there carboard cutouts :D

Nice work! With all these pet projects that us Animators do on this story, maybe one day we will have a very good recon of the whole story.

I thought it was pretty good. But the cardboard ones looked like they were more interested in going for a beer rather than exterminating...
