i think it just goes to show how damaging opera is on the voice and why she slowed down on her opera performances considerably in the 70s, ending them all by the 80s. Those who sang opera till the end, ala Sutherland, now can no longer sing. Whereas Price still sings today.
I have watched this and some of the other video excerpts from this recital. Pardon my language - but this is inf***ingcredible!! She sounds better in some of these excerpts than she did 10 years earlier (or even in some recordings). Even her mannerisms (scooping, straight tone in upper mid voice, awkward chest voice) and much more under control. Her tone and breath control are - of course - phenomena1. Hard to things of singers in their prime years who can sing like this today.
Leontyne experienced a vocal rebirth in the 90's...I don't know how, but damn she sounds young again!
