This was the first episode I saw, at nine years old, 1973.

I'll never forget how right away, that kid with the social problem, reminded me of a cousin. I didn't understand social problems then. They just looked alike. As I grew older I noticed that he acted out in the same manners. When he lost at a game, he threw a tantrum. Later on he was institutionalized. Same haircut, same eyes, same head shape. I think about him every time I see this.

Even thought Roddenberry wrote the episode, Fontana did the teleplay. I understand that the science fiction/fantasy writer community was pretty small in those days, and they did some collaboration. This may have "influenced"what plots were being cranked out. Again, not being an expert on this, but there was a similar aspect in regards to the limited number of directors in those days that specialized in this genre

And you are totally right about the writers. George Clayton Johnston wrote the first episode, about the salt monster. He wrote dozens of Twilight Zone episodes.

Have you actually ever watched a season of star trek? Pick one where time travel comes into the picture. It happens numerous times. What you do in the past ALWAYS affects your universe in the future. it never creates a new "alternate reality". The movie was about as smart as you are.

Yes that is true about the time travel. Even in Star Trek TNG, time travel happened and nothing was changed. But in the new movie Star Trek it is only changed because of the events the Romulans take. Spock even says in the movie when speaking to his young self that yes he basically lied to Kirk implying that something would alter everything by his talking to himself, but it wouldnt really do anything.
