  • To whom it may concern:

When comes the time MATURITY arises in the comments here?

    A newborn Lobos follower

  • these guyz r bitchin!!! great fuckin drinking song!!!!!

  • One of my favorites!Very good song =)

  • I'd actually like to see them go in more of a spanish direction.Or more like the old La Bamba tune . . . because all this sounds kinda watered down. It' enjoyable but I'm hoping for different . . .

  • I dont' really get into the spanish stuff because I'm not spanish. I think they keep a good balance. They rock!!

  • I hear it jump to Cajun. I like that.

  • esta muy bueno . saludos

  • Como?

  • This song is incredible, I think it might be one of the sweetest songs of all time! Los Lobos are beyond compare!

  • Why is Steve Berlin playing guitar?

  • This is different than the version in Colors. It leaves out the verse that says " she gave away her life to become somebody's wife"

  • It is different. I like this version though. The one you're talking about is on their greatest hits CD.

  • these guys hit this one dead on...it shows the fabric of this country and who we are...god bless this country and thank you lobos for such a wonderful song..my father said to be strong and that a good man can NEVER be wrong !!

  • God they don't make songs like this anymore, fucking phenomenal!!

  • you got that right!

  • Great Song!!!!!!!!

  • Why isnt this song credited in the Colors soundtrack...or in the credits. Its pretty much the best song that is played in the movie. Great song.

  • I listen to this when I am cruising above LA on Mulholland drive. Rockin!!!!!

  • lol nice

  • The accordian just under the surface notes is so beautiful. 20 years later this song is still fresh. It combines CW, rock and latin riffs. It is about as American as music can be.

    The wolf survives!

  • At 0:48 there's Carlos Santana?

    Wonderful song and video, however.

  • quatschkopp

  • My husband loves this song, and remembers hearing it in the movie Colors. We saw them in concert in Camp Verde,AZ a few years ago. They rock!

  • Great band, great song. Amazing how young they look . . . .

  • that old guy at :53 is the same guy from the Enter Sandman Video from Metallica

  • omg shewolf i feel the exact same my dad would always play this on the car ride home wen i was little and in the house lol

  • Waaaaaaaaaaait a minute.... Isn't the guy at 0:55 Seconds the guy from Metallica's Enter Sandman? LOL

    Great song BTW.

  • I always used to hear my dad play these music videos on t.v it was on VCR or something lol... when I was smaller.. soo i like em lol

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song!!!

  • super sound

  • GREAT SONG BIG TIME!!!

  • it'll give ya a chill.....he sure picks it out strong.......don't he though! 5x5... 20 years an nothin's changed

  • this song is the intro to the movie colors 1988..directed by denis hopper..great flick...even greater song.. LOS LOBOS East L.A. products...

  • Exactly, but it is not on the soundtrack for colors. This is an awesome song.

  • thanks for posting...I'm going to see Los Lobos day after tomorrow in Toronto...they're just so damned good!!

    aka KCRamone

  • LOS LOBOS ROCKS ! ! ! !

  • lots to learn from the oldtimers the Lobos nailed it

  • i am reading all through the song, WHAT is it you wanne say? are you hummin'a song? is is a message with a hidden meaning? did God,or green pride from mars, talk to you ,in code?

Or, you naughty boy, did you roll one?

  • God Bless All Americans. Period.

  • RED PRIDE!!!!!!!!!

  • WHITE PRIDE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • & BLUE PRIDE!!!!!!!!!!

  • This song always wets my cheeks. It is bitter sweet. They was it is sung it upbeat, but the words are ...well strong.

  • "It is bitter sweet. They was it is sung it upbeat, but the words are ...well strong." I agree. Very intense song.

  • A person at my local music store said he was in this band but i think he was lying. lol

  • i love this song it reminds me of colors it also reminds me of my hometown east oakland where there are so many storys like this homicides all the time mostly blacks and latinos dying in the streets of oakland in america sad but true....

  • Sad song really. But it's a great song nontheless.

  • I never get all the way through this video without the tears welling up. Guess I'm just old and in the way, but I really love this song.

  • Sounds better in colors?

  • Totally. I wonder why...different version, maybe?

  • I always thought these guys were the best band to ever come out of East LA. You should have hear them in the beginning, they were a raw traditional Mexican band (Los Dos Panchos, etc.) and really still are. But man can these guys rock a house. See'em in a small venue if you can. They remind me of home.

  • I've seen 'em 7 times and never heard this one. I was right up on the stage once and shouted it out during a break btw songs. David looked down at me, smiled and gently shook his head. Then he nodded at the boys and started Mas Y Mas. Insane. I think they've gotten better with age.

  • Why don't they play it? Too Commercial?

  • I really don't know. I don't think it's commercial at all. It's such a great song though. There's a live version on here somewhere that's great.

  • Great Band very under appreciated

  • yes they are..

  • Beautiful song and one of the best bands in the world

  • Remember hearing this in the begining of the movie COLORS.

  • no.

  • Dude, I remember buying the colors soundtrack for this song alone and it wasn't on there! I finally found out the name like a year ago and went out bought the greatest hits Cd. These guys rock!!!

  • Thanks for posting this. Great tune, great lyrics.

  • they really play kick ass rock and roll, fuckin´good musicians

  • THE most under-appreciated band of all time.

  • An amazing band live and recorded. Funny thing. The drummer in this video is Louie Perez. He's a damn fine guitar player as well as a damn fine drummer. They've changed the line up to include another drummer and Louie is out front now. Shows you that man wanted to make music and play "rock star". Badass band. They guys really matter.

  • you know its the accordion that reaaly makes this tune but you dont have the player in this vid

  • Thank you

  • this song reminds me of LA so much cuz of colors lol :)

  • this song is great...they play it in the begining of the movie colors 1988.. directed by dennis hopper. this shit is 80's

  • One nation, but a million different stories- that`s what this one`s all about... Great live band Los Lobos (Which means `the wolves` in Spanish) Fantastic energy,a real class act...

  • Holland?

  • fucking poetry right here. seriously, one of the most underrated american bands of all time.

  • I Love Los Lobos and I love this song especially!!!

  • These guys are the best band in America, go see them LIVE. It'll be the best show you've seen in a while, I promise!

  • Totally agree, Nolagirlone.

whenever they come to Holland I'm going, they never dissapoint,No image or" how they look" all about the music. Cesar thanks us in between the songs with: Thank you music-lovers! nuff said.

  • awesome progressive band! although i definetely prefer the song they did for the movie "mambo kings", "beautiful maria of my soul"

  • wolf tracks: the best of Los Lobos. It has this song. Both songs from la bamba. One new cut and some of their best songs from the past and present. They are one of the most underappreciated bands of our era. They rock!

  • Just another band from east LA 2 disk compilation, totally amazing!!

  • Completely underrated American band! They are so much more than "La Bamba." Amazing musicians and songwriters...go get Kiko and The Town and the City!

  • Nice tune! Great Beat!

  • First heard this tune on 'My Name Is Earl' and now I'm hooked.

Can anyone recommend a good Los Lobos album for a newcomer?

  • that's a difficult one, my favorite is "kiko" from '92.

And "just another band from east L.A. from'93 is a compilation of their songs ...but since then they recorded much more albums, and great ones among them too.

  • the 2 best Loss Lobos would be hands down either their original album Will The Wolf Survive or their compilation from last year WolfTracks which is kind of a best of, I play the heck out of them both..see them live!!!!

  • i like river bed i think its called

  • I Love Los Lobos!!!

  • This song was in the opening of colors and I just found out the name a few days ago. Los Lobos rocks!!!

  • yee haa

  • One of the best bands ever.

  • ive got a los lobos sweatshirt

  • They & Dr. John weren't on the movie sound track. Just Rap. How dishonestly commericial is that?

  • Yes a very under-rated band...in spanish or english these guys are fantastic!!!

  • THE most under-rated band of all-time

    VIVA LOS LOBOS!!

  • Chingona....

  • light of the moon

  • You guys are all right on. This is one of the best bands and the most overlooked and under rated. Too bad for the chumps that don't dig them!

  • Probably one of the best, if not the best, American bands of the last 25 years. I'm still trying to understand how Madonna could make it into the RR Hall of Fame, but LL has still not been even considered. What a joke!!

  • Same here...I just wanna kick teh tv set in evry year when they are overlooked. They have been eligible since 2003 I think, but...crap acts like Madonna and Dave Clark 5 zoom by Los Lobos. At least, they are a working band and are still on the road performing and making critically great albums. They shouldve been nominated shoulder to shoulder w/ Van Halen, 2 great rock bands inducted the same year.

  • I second that.. Madonna????? yeah she's kinky and all... but she was never rock. Pop yes, but rock no..

  • P.S. I have to agree with qqbass1. It is one of the greatest songs ever written and performed.

  • I came acros this song at the movies, they played it in the movie "Colors" I finally after a bit of searching found a copy, and I became a fan of Los Lobos. The lyrics are amazing, as well as the singer and that great Guitar Picking. How did it do on the charts, it should have been a ten million seller.

    barrygio1

  • Sadly, the band has only had a #1 seller:la bamba (3 million units sold)..I think the biggest album they had second to that is 'Kiko'(1992), which sold almost 400,000 units..they tour a lot to make a living, but they are amazing in concert. Many musicians say they watch Los Lobos perform to enjoy how good a band can be on stage....that's quite a compliment.

  • Those guitars and that voice...I've never heard a more beautifully played song.

  • This is one of the greatest songs ever written and performed.

  • Classis groud and classy men

  • one of the best songs ever!!

  • This song reminds me of the movie Colors. great movie, great song.

  • One of the most underrated bands in North America.

  • If Los Lobos ruled the universe, music would have no boundaries

  • My favorite song of theirs, upbeat music with real life stories!

  • the beatles of north america

    hidago and rosas

    mccartney and lennon

  • anyone have river of fools by los lobos that they can upload?

  • colors blood!!!!

  • seen these guys in PEI of all places, Canada Day. Wow.

  • best song ever,I have been trying to track this down everytime i watch colors..it took me 5 los lobos websites now i have it.:)

  • Abosultely fantastic, grt song, lyrics and music.

  • They have so much talent. Totally amazing. I saw them last winter in Boston and I think some of their wives were watching from the side of the stage. They looked like they were all having so much fun, just being able to perform.

  • heaven on earth,

    practice makes perfect

America has NOT failed, we are a young country , lets hope before we purge ourselves off the planet,

heaven on earth is more than a idea or dream

  • One Time, One Night Lyrics

    (David Hidalgo/Louie Perez)

A wise man was telling stories to me

About the places he had been to

And the things that he had seen

A quiet voice is singing something to me

An age old song about the home of the brave

In this land here of the free

One time one night in America

  • A lady dressed in white with the man she loved Standing along the side of their pickup truck A shot rang out in the night Just when everything seemed right Another headline written down in America The guy that lived next door in #305 Took the kids to the park and disappeared About half past nine Who will ever know How much she loved them so That dark night alone in America
  • A quiet voice is singing something to me

An age old song about the home of the brave

In this land here of the free

One time one night in America

Four small boys playing ball in a parking lot

A preacher, a teacher, and the other became a cop

A car skidded into the rain

Making the last little one a saint

One more light goes out in America

  • A young girl tosses a coin in the wishing well She hopes for a heaven while for her There's just this hell She gave away her life To become somebody's wife Another wish unanswered in America People having so much faith Die too soon while all the rest come late We write a song that no one sings On a cold black stone Where a lasting peace will finally bring
  • The sunlight plays upon my windowpane I wake up to a world that's still the same My father said to be strong And that a good man could never do wrong In a dream I had last night in America A wise man was telling storie to me About the places he had been to And the things that he had seen A quiet voice is singing something to me An age old song about the home of the brave In this land here of the free One time one night in America
