thank you lilackitsune, this song & video brought back many good memories from the real MTV of the 80's, and all those 80's clubs here in town, back then. just somtimes, i wish i could go back. peace :-)
Dale Bozzio fue la inspitacion de todas las demas artistas subsecuerntes, fue una idea musical convertida en una gran artista que dejo huella muy inspiradora y definitiva,
To all the kiddies born in the late 80's who think Lady Gaga is God or something, I'll tell you that Gaga's look and style would not have been possible if it weren't for Dale Bozzio of Missing Persons, Annie Lennox, Cyndi Lauper, Grace Jones, or Madonna to name a few. They were the originals. Lady Caca is just a recycled mash up of the original creators of the style.
1) The video was indeed "cutting edge" for the time. Hard to believe , but true.
2) Gaga totally rips off Dale. But not just Dale, she hijacks Bowie and Iggy Pop too. Many have borrowed from Bowie.
3) Missing persons was not "way" ahead of their time. They are a product of their time. T. Bozzio is an absolute MONSTER of a drummer, knowing his other work, let's say he has always been fairly avant-garde. But MP wasn't "way" ahead, just a leader.
Imitation is the best form of flattery I always say. All of you are comparing Gaga to Dale only because they both have bleach blonde hair. While they are similar in looks, their styles couldn't be more different musically. They both are great, at least both Dale and Gaga can perform live unlike the non-singing skanks of today!
This video was actually cutting edge for the time, believe it or not. And it is one of MP's under rated gems. Agree that Gaga stole from Dale heavily. Dale and MP were way ahead of their time.
Sure Lady Gaga is "borrowing" from Dale, but as much as I love Missing Persons, Dale was not the most powerful nor original singer...her hiccup is also a trademark of Lene Lovich as well as Cyndi Lauper. Even her wardrobe (other than her titty shields) was not terribly unique for the time (something on the order of Siouxsie Sioux - no, Toyah- wiggled into Peggy Bundy's tramp pants!) But still cooler than Gaga, I guess.
What a gloriously terrible video. I don't think I ever actually saw the video itself back in the day, but this song was always a guilty pleasure of mine.
lady gaga is cool, dale is the original, its great to see others inspired by the original work of Dale. just wish the masses knew what an inspiration she is.
anyone else think Lady Gaga looks like a Dale Bozzio ripoff? only with a less interesting voice, not such a good band behind her, and not such good tits!
HELLO!!! TOTALLY COPPED HER LOOK, LADY CACA THAT IS. She's a total 80's ripoff artist. I'm sure she has tons of 40 something women around her from the 80's advising her. ARTIST MY ASS! She's a fucking copycat. ANd not a very good one at that. TWAT!
I remember when this premiered on MTV. I think they said at the time that they used the latest in computer graphics technology.
I thought it was dazzling back in the day. In 84, computer graphics on this level wasn't something you saw everyday. So a video like this grabbed your attention whether you liked the song or not....at least the first time you saw it. In my case, the song was very disappointing so it became ho-hum after seeing it a few times. No disrespect to those who like it.
Peter Max art added a nice metaphysical aspect to the song. Saw then in '84 at the Agora Ballroom, anyone remember that place? and what a concert it was. They blew the place away, Terry was incredible. His drum set was right up at the edge of the stage and it was amazing how he played
...once upon a time music videos were considered more video art than gimmicky selling tools...what the hell happened...??? Missing Persons were ground breakers. Are musicians in this day and age really that uncreative?
The only time I remember seeing this video was when it was an "MTV exclusive" in September '84-I saw it every morning at 7 am before I left for school!!!
The chorus of this song was stuck in my head for *weeks* when it was a hit. Very difficult to work Physics and Engineering problems when that happens...
Probably the most colorful video ever made. Missing Persons is such a great group. I don't mind being stuck in the 80's. MTV really helped get these bands recognized.
This forgotten song and video all by itself, still kicks the A** of all the current hits, despite all their expensive production and drugged-out repetitive eemo simpering. Even the lesser-known New Wave cuts like this, that were never super hits, just rule like God over the empty canned derivative crap of today.
I've always loved this song - subtle and emotional. And you are so right, NoHoiPolloi -- this song reminds me of hanging out at the Fandom Zone in Tampa, gaming until the wee hours of the morning. Best time of my life. Thank you so much for posting this!
i remember seeing this video only once, but my lil sis had the album-damn near wore the groove thru! Grade 8-one morning before school on the original MTV! not the dreck and drivel that passes for it these days!
This *really* takes me back. It's amazing how a song can evoke emotions from the past. Almost as though you're right there again... Thanks for posting this!
this song is part of my unromantic teen years....i love it and i think that the magic of it is the simplicity of the music and the haunting voice of Dale....i love them...
"Part of my Unromantic Teen Years" Sounds like the story of my life. I had some great memories back in High School. The fun really started when i left America for Australia.

What an awesome band. One of the few bands whose songs really stick in my head 25 years later. Totally underrated and stand the test of time better than 95% of the bands of the period.
