Viacock will never win. Section 107 of the copyright act of 1976 states for "fair use" of content. I.e. We CAN have clips from their shows and they can never do anything about it. Ever.
Kittens or Mafia? Is the mafia decentralized? The videos are not posted by youtube, but youtubers, as it should be. YouTube had proved that they will remove anything that anyone complains about, so your argument is debunked idiot.
Screw Viacom! If you look up the word 'Viacom" in the dictionary, it should read "Greedy, Very Very Greedy. Scum of the earth Greedy." Corporations like this can kiss my American ass. The only place the heads of these corporations belong is in jail along with the rest of the corrupt thugs we have in government, wall street, and media.
the real reason they want youtube shut down is not because of copyright its more to do with the fact that people do not wan to watch controled media & cotroled music & they are losing money.
Universial music group has filed copyright on youtube then I noticed that they have a youtube acount & they are selecting artists what they want everyone to listen to, so can you imagine what artits they want us to listen to on TV
watch Steven Jacobson Mind control Neuro-linguistic programming
Ever since TV, a swindle has been afoot. The American people were NEVER PAID for the air waves. Nor have they ever been paid for the ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF TECHNOLOGY they fund through vessels like the military, NASA, Dept. of Energy, etc. which are then simply HANDED OVER to industry for capitalist exploitation.
It didn't start with the "BAIL-OUTS" folks - this kind of capitalist THEFT from the PUBLIC PURSE is generational.
What would the news do if YouTube shut down since YT is one of the major places that news sources seem to be getting their topics?
Viacom may as well try to shut down the Internet because so MANY people are using screen shots and video/sound clips from shows and musicians. The best any site can do is remove the material when copyright infringement is reported.
It's impossible for youtube to lose and end up like napster. Napster never had original content. Thats why Napster lost.....
Youtube is hurt the new world order real bad, they can't do anything without a youtube video exposing what they are doing.
Thats why the media is trying to play youtube off with napster. They don't even realize that youtube is not in the same category as napster. Youtube is more like myspace or facebook but with videos....
Viacom did upload their own videos on youtube. The reason why they want to shut down youtube because everything goes viral when the new world order does something. As for youtube ending up like napster, youtube will win that part of the case because 80% of the videos on youtube is original content and youtube even tell users that they can only load original content unless the users have permission to do so.
It may not seem 'fair' if someone uses your content for their videos and/or profits, but life ain't fair. deal with it. If it was out there in the public domain to begin with, I don't care. That may seem like a very uncaring view of markets, but a free-for-all in ideas and IP will promote the most progress in the long run. It's a total myth to say that patents and copyrights BY DEFAULT encourage innovation. It's really more of an industry case-by-case basis.
The biggest reason people give 2 shits about copyrights is the amount of profit they COULD make off of these products. Other reasons are mostly superficial and shallow, and the effects are hard to measure.
It's funny. Most people would say competition is preferable to monopoly when businesses are using OTHER people's former property they bought. But people shy away from that view suddenly when it comes to INDIVIDUALs' 'property of the mind'. They treat ideas as some kind of sacred cow. I'm sick of it. If someone wants to use my videos for their videos and make a compilation of vids, fine by me! Why should I fucking care? I'll manage.
'Intellectual' property is not true property. Property is something earned or bought in a voluntary transaction with other human beings. IP does neither of those. I mean, why shouldn't competition exist in intellectual property markets just as with every other market? Why should they have some kind of protectionism? That's really what it is. You can fancy it up in nice-sounding terms like "intellectual property", but it's protectionism and monopoly.
Sure, some may bitch that I "Used someone else's content without their permission", but once you put your content in the public domain, far as I'm concerned, all bets are off. That's one free market I think we can all get behind. If you didn't want your content to be used in part by someone else for THEIR new and original content, don't put it out there. Simple as that. "Intellectual property" is a bunk concept.
I have to put up with shitty-named TNA superstars because wwe and wcw and ecw veterans can't use the names that made them famous there. I have to put up with shitty TNA superstar theme songs b/c wwe has the rights to all their former songs. It's madness! It INFRINGES on creativity. Who cares if I use some video someone else made as part of a larger video with various bits and pieces? That new video is MINE! I made it, not someone else. It's my creation. So why shouldn't it be mine legally?
"criminal enterprise" LOL. If that's not hyperbole, I don't know what is. Yes... a site dedicated to expanding access to popular and awesome videos online and allowing folks to share their own content is a "criminal enterprise"... bent on WHAT? "copyright infringement"?
I'm so sick of copyrights. All they do is get in the way of progress. There may be a legit purpose for some patent protections, although even those have problems, but copyright monopolies are insane.
I wonder how many actual Viacom employees DON'T support this insidious plan to "de-napsterize" Youtube? Probably a lot. It's mainly the executives doing this kind of bullshit, them and whatever lawyers they can find to represent them for big bucks.
Viacom is evil. This is just about having monopoly access to their content and profits. They're afraid to 'lose profits' b/c some dweebs here and there upload a few of their vids everyday. big deal! You're a multibillion-dollar franchise! You own so many fucking tv channels! What do you have to be scared of/concerned about? You're not even close to bankruptcy or going out of business.
Solution= YouTube starts charging a nominal monthly fee, the proceeds of which it can then use to pay Viacom for exposure of Viacom-owned material. I wouldn't really mind paying YouTube $5 or $10 per month in order to be able to keep using the site. That would probably do away with all the problems caused by violation of copyright infringement laws, as a payment is being made in order to use copyrighted material. I know many will shit a brick when they read this, but we got to face reality.
Viacom is trying to make this about YouTube. But it's really about the internet. There bitching about Viacom videos that anyone can find on the net without YT.

capitlism wouldn't be so bad if the consumer reached his/her potential by in this case boycotting everything viacom has to offer would shut down this case.
you can't have a democracy without an informed public
which we don't completly seem to have thus no democracy,
but youtube has put an huge dent in the lack of an informed public
thus it is almost a right for citzens to have youtube in this day and age not only that so many people make money with there how to videos and small business can advertise,
I've seen loads of music on youtube and then gone out and bought them in a store or on amazon and would not have heard of them if they hadn't been on youtube. Youtube = free advertising. This is all just a load of bollocks.
youtube posts such as the one your watching here must be stopped, Americans don't read and they don't have the time or ability to extract real information from the mainstream -- so Youtube educates them and lets them understand issues. Issues that the politicians and corporations don't want you to know about. This is more than a fight for property rights and advertising dollars -- this is a fight for intellectual distribution rights.
See how greed wrecks the world? Give me a break. Youtube is free advertising for these greedy crappers that aren't worth the paper on which they're printed. Sue? They should be sued out of business!!
Just another attack on free speech and the sharing of people's uncensored ideas. Sure both Viacom and Google are both controlled (primary shareholder) hedge fund groups, but we can't talk about that.
Go back to sleep everyone. Theocracy is almost here.
Viacom did do this. They "messed up" a few videos to make it look pirated, then uploaded them to YouTube. These idiots just want to take the little guy to court for thousands of dollars per song.
personally, in a way i hope that viacom wins - youtube has far too much crap on it today.
i much preferred things in the beginning where it was mostly content uploaded by actual viewers for debate, perspectives and overall cultural exchange.
today it is filled with ads, music videos and shitty "youtube stars"?!
Once you become a popular partner you get and automatic 5 stars and get on every bodies home page no matter what kind of useless garbage you spew out. Just check out the most popular always sxePhil, shaytards, ctfxc, raywilliam, and shane. I the advantages that these users get places them at the top crowding out newcomers with real talent.
These users are even allowed to break the rules. Look at anything from sxePhil and think should it be flagged - misleading thumbnail.
Except for the comments, I can get the content elsewhere. I'd like to see another site as popular as you tube to offer some real competition because yt are bullies when they want to be. Even MoxNews has experienced that.
The more time passes, the more technology makes copyright laws obsolete. Instead of finding a way to make everything sharable with flat fees to the owners, they would rather preserve these stupid copyright and royalty laws.
I hate that arsehole Jeffery, defending the big corporations. If viacon are uploading videos onto youtube in the first place to get publicity they are massive hypocrites.
Viacom has every right but it's really bad marketing. We should have free use. Blame this shit on the government for corporatism in this censorship game.
This is just another way "they' want to stop and control dissent. Youtube has the ability to expose losers like John McCain and Obama and they hate it.
I do not buy it.... guys like me give it for free....if someone promotes it on youtube, I win! Lots of folks like me cant make good videos for songs.... youtube would only die if it involved a sellout involving Billions of dollars! Mark it down!
There is Fair Use, especially for the short stuff -- he didn't download the whole show, just a snippet to make a point. He went through this in his CSpanJunkie days and he worked with CSpan for a while but in the end, they changed their mind. There's a happy medium that needs to be found.
@arkivx1 It's called "Fair Use" as long as no money is being made it's legal in the court of law for certain pieces, I don't know all of the details tho. It's a long piece of legislation loop hole.

3. The template of youtube allows freedom of speech more rather than just watching a talking head on CNN do the talking.

Put your own information, music, or entertainment in the forums where people ARE and they won't have to resort to piracy to get to it.

These users are even allowed to break the rules. Look at anything from sxePhil and think should it be flagged - misleading thumbnail.

killing you-tube? viacum is that would not not not be a good idea!
ewigkase1 1 year ago
Except for the comments, I can get the content elsewhere. I'd like to see another site as popular as you tube to offer some real competition because yt are bullies when they want to be. Even MoxNews has experienced that.

The more time passes, the more technology makes copyright laws obsolete. Instead of finding a way to make everything sharable with flat fees to the owners, they would rather preserve these stupid copyright and royalty laws.
Technology makes laws obsolete.

Viacom has every right but it's really bad marketing. We should have free use. Blame this shit on the government for corporatism in this censorship game.

There is Fair Use, especially for the short stuff -- he didn't download the whole show, just a snippet to make a point. He went through this in his CSpanJunkie days and he worked with CSpan for a while but in the end, they changed their mind. There's a happy medium that needs to be found.
KateAnneNYC 1 year ago
@arkivx1 It's called "Fair Use" as long as no money is being made it's legal in the court of law for certain pieces, I don't know all of the details tho. It's a long piece of legislation loop hole.
