  • This song always makes me cry---thanks for the tears and the memories.

  • Simply stunning!

  • 90% comments just comparing the 2 singers voices

  • Beautiful song..........beautiful sentiment. I love it.

  • They say the best love songs are written by people who've had their hearts broken!!!

  • Still haven't got any letter in my mailbox.....miss you!!

  • What? No light show? No back up dancers?

With a voice like her's you don't need those crutches!!

    Marrelous voice!! I think I love her. (c;

  • Great interpretation. Well done. So expressive. I bought a cassette of Mary Black music a few years ago. It had a sticker on it with a quotation from Sean Connery saying "Surely this is the voice of God."

  • beautifully understated...

  • just stunningly beautiful

  • Simply stunning!!!!

  • Just a classically fantastic song; Mary Black delivers the very best performance...Thanks for the post.♥

  • Sorry for being maudlin but this song got me through some tough times and for that alone I'll always be grateful. The fact that I can now listen to it and remember the better times is testament to the singer and the songwriter, bravo. Nothing can trigger the memory quite like a song :-)

  • What a voice.....beautiful!!!

  • nice, but no-one does it like Nancy Griffith!

  • That is just unbelievably beautiful. Bravo to Mary Black for this performance, and to Patrick Alger for writing it.

  • Wowzer. Outstanding.

  • omg.

    Mary's voice is wonderful.!!!!!!!

She has so many great albums, but we had to search for this song. :)

  • I do really love this song.. and all performance from audiophile voice..:)

  • her control over her voice is amazing her voice is so natural nt forced at'll she just unbelievable amazing id listen to her all day evryday this is music the is a singer ive never heard anyone sing live as amazing as her not whitney nor maria is that good shes out of there league mary is a true perform true singer shea an insperation to me im 20 and think shes incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!xX

  • @kierabyrne09 I love Mary Black 2, but dont u think her voice is styled and sometimes too much verbrato to the detriment of the melody?

  • @blahblahblah85 yes I do mr now it all

  • Very, VERRRYY, nice.

  • Mary Blacks version is 100 times better than Nanci Griffiths! Love it, defo a favourite

  • I have to disagree with you on that. Mary's performance is perfect, and so is Nanci's. There many, many variations of perfection.

  • if i was 5yrs older. she is a sexy beautiful woman. what a voice. i need a hug.

  • It's been more than 15 years since an Irish friend of mine introduced me to Mary Black -- and in particular to this song. It's been nearly that long since I've heard it and I was so pleased to find it here. Thanks, stillhardlife

  • couldnt agree more love Mary Black singing this song she is the best

  • i much prefer marys version to nancy griffiths who has an irritating edgy voice , Mary Black expresses the song beautifully without offending my ears.

  • This is a favourite song of mine and believe me the innocent vocal delivery of Nanci Griffith brings the song to life and cannot be bettered - even by the most accomplished singer. Sometimes the definitive version of a great song (albeit quite simple) smacks you in the face, and I still wear Nanci's bruises proudly.

Her finest moment in my humble opinion.

  • I agree. I saw Nanci Griffith in concert about 20 years ago, and it was an absolutely thrilling experience. Yes, sometimes her voice gets harsh, but there's something she puts into her singing that really grabs me. And this is perhaps my favorite song that she does.

  • I must agree with res57 to a degree. Mary does it nicely, but the Nanci Griffith version really can't be beat. Still nice though!

  • Well, technically it is a Pat Alger song and Mary acquits herself quite well thank you very much.

  • She butchered Nanci Griffith's song- No one sings like Nanci!

  • @res57 It's a Patrick Alger song

  • she is out there in a league of her own

  • Mary is awesome........period

  • A great song sung by a great singer!

  • Mary is simply the best.

    JM : )

  • Miss the feeling and the contact to the musicians, the voice is more than perfect, thanxxx

  • Awesome - one of my favourite songs by one of my all time favourite singers.

  • Máire ~~ Tá an amhrán seo go hiontach ar fad ~~~Mícheál ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

  • mary you are wonderful, Godbless

  • Great interpretation. mature, knowing, been there and got the t-shirt. the irony of love!

  • I agree - it's a different interpretation from her album interpretation of the 80s.

  • Yeh, seasoned performance and great diction. I rate this pretty highly because when you've left the site, you're humming it for days and it makes you want to go out and replicate the moment. Compares very favourable with the Naci Griffith. I like the backing too. There's always a danger you can over cook a song like this but the balance was all there.

  • how dare any of yous.. can u do any better as a wee person frm east belfast we love mary!!!!!!!!!!!! do better we love u maryxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • nice not as good as nancys thou

  • I very much agree. She is the songstress of Ireland! Talented, talented family.
