I have a white bellied Caique - much smaller than a military macaw - but my cats avoid her like the plague! Perhaps it is because she bit their toes when they got on her cage after I first brought her home. That was enough contact with that crazy bird for them!!
when sources say parrots have the intelligence of a toddler (which apparently for animals is verry high....) i can see how. s/he reminds me of a child with adhd
haha cats just get outa the way!!!!! hides his toy like a dog,,,,,i had a parrot,, (he's in a breeding situation now) and whenever he put his beak to the floor and swooshed side to side,,,,LOOK OUT!!! lol,,,this bird is full of personality and definately rules the roost!!!
I have a Military Macaw and an African Grey. My dogs and cats don't go near them. From watching the video its obvious that the owners are paying attention to what is going on.
Screw the other comments this video was great! He/she has so much personality! And i see he has been getting at your baseboards lmao! Wish I could let my sun conure run around like this but with a greyhound around its a little hard but she is out most of the day with me anyways! Keep these videos coming!
Let's be realistic here, those cats are clearly keeping their distance. I bet they've had a few close calls before with that beak. That bird is more than capable of tearing those cats up if it wanted to. And don't be so paranoid about feline saliva, bacteria on us at any given time outnumbers our body cells 10 to 1. There is nothing inherently dangerous about cat cooties to parrots.
decent video but your bird is gonna die if it hasnt already.... cat will finish it one way or another, boot the cats out! cats leave too much hair too theyre just an overall pain! good luck.
not if it gets on HIM!!!! the only way it is toxisc to them if the get it in thier eye,ear mouth etc.!! I own 8 birds with 3 cats and have had close calls but mostly the cats simply run out of the room! The only time they would attact is if they are cornered, or a simalur situation, and in self defense
I am an avid macaw fan and I know for a fact that this bird has bonded with the play toy and acts as if the toy is it's mate. In addition to this, there is a strong belief that the bird is mal-adjusted and doesn't get much interaction with humans... shame on the owner.
Cats commonly have Pasteurella bacteria as part of their natural flora. While this bacteria is ubiquitous in cats and does them no harm, it is DEADLY to birds. Even if you cat just bats your bird or gets saliva on your bird, you could end up with a dead bird. Also, if you bird has a persistent problem with itching and other skin issues and you have a cat, this could be a cause and your vet should be asked to screen for this bacteria.
Cats carry a bacteria on their claws that is DEADLY TO PARROTS! Look it up! Frappo is right, you may end up with a dead bird, just not for the same reason.
hahaha i love ur bird its actually chasing its reflection on the ground, lol and it looked like it was placing the toy near the food bowl for sum reason
You only going to end up with a DEAD bird if you keep the cats around it like this. Cats are cats...instinct will kick in ... and it will be TOO late.
Did you watch the video? The cats are terrified of the bird. The bird could probably kill the cats more easily than the other way around. Ever been bitten by a macaw?
I've had a litter of cats around a macaw and an african grey.. the cats were too afraid to go near the birds, especially my african grey, as he used to try and attack the cats! Dont have the cats or the macaw anymore, but the african grey sure is a cutie!
displays actions of a vietnam vet!! lol to him.. the war is still goin on! LOVIT!

I love how your bird walks with a cane. My military macaw is very content sitting on his swing and screaming at every body that walks by.
