It's like the 45 and lp are two different songs. The lp sounds like a love ballad. It's at the correct speed, and no compression, and damn the guitar tradeoffs at the end just make this a slow jam Mexican style
Remember cruising thru San Antonio listening to this song driving down Austin Highway in the convertible with the senorita hanging with my gringo butt. Best time of my young life !
Dear "XOXO" -- do you still remember me? This song came out when I first met you and oh I had a HUGE Monster Crush on YOU!! I still remember you fondly, especially when I hear this incredible song! G-d bless you wherever you are!!!!
SHAAAAAAAAAAAA! aka; Mr Lio'n de ole OG 159/165th ave locos(1975-1983) my era of ridin low/slow it was cool back in the day i was intro to malo in"69" form my best friend as kids his mexican family treated this honky...hahaha as family god bless them peace to all and keep on keepin on low and slow Brian oakland,ca.
Went to a Malo concert when I turned 14--my bf enjoyed the show (my parents paid for the tickets) and then he broke up with me right afterwards! What a pendejo! But I still love Malo
@allcatz He dumped you because of Malo! What a pendejo man! Well, at least you gotz great classic taste! He's probably at home listening that Beyonce or Rhianna bitches thinking they are the bomb?!
Wow Ms. allcatz. Was this dude listening at all to the lyrics as they played this song in the show? Hearing this song should have put him into a loving mood and wanting to share his happiness with you. I don't know what "pendejo" means. I can only gather that it equates to your belief that he was a "frickin', callous a-hole of a jerk" for dumping you in the cold manner that he did. This song, IMO, is one of the greatest love songs in pop music history.
@allcatz did he say why he broke up with you? maybe he fell in love with Malo instead? and besides, what you doing having a boyfriend at 14 anyway. you should not have boyfriends and such until you're 28!
@billboardnumber1 LOL--Those were the days when having a bf meant just holding hands & kissing; a more innocent time. I had boyfriends from the time I was in kindergarten but this guy could have at least waited a few days before dumping me after enjoying the Malo concert on my parents dime. Ah well...the memory still doesn't spoil my enjoyment of Malo's fabulous music!
My first love, Kenny S. introduced me to this song, he also went to Vietnam, I think of him everytime I hear this beautiful song, will love you forever. Maria

@phillyshell94 I'm a white mid forties house wife living in the Northwest and I love this stuff--Used to listen to KRLA in Los Angeles in the 90's-thought it was interesting that Latino homeboys/girls liked 60's/70's soul music song mostly sung by brothers. Just great music no matter how you slice it-reminds me of being a little kid :)
I saw Malo at Cal State LA for Chicano Pride week 1972 they were the best. I remember my brothers Chendo & Fernando, and Alvarao Mora it was the best.
This song came out in the early 70's. Reminds me of my first love. Even though we have long since gone our own separate ways, whenever I hear this song it always brings me back to my teen years and the love we had. So innocent and pure. <3
Young, in college and Livin' in Calif....blowin' this song on my ride. Wow what a great time that was..no money though.....but life was much simpler for me then.... gas was like 50 cents a gallon so with 5 bucks in my '67 Camero I could cruise!
Malo, Azteca. Tower of Power, Cold Blood all great SF Bay area bands singing and swingin' in the early to mid seventies yeah cool music from way back in the day...
I wasn't alive in the 70's or any of those cool decades, i'm only 16, but this song still brings good memories of when i was little and my parents played this, cruisin' in the lowrider in the streets of l.a. All kids nowadays should love these oldies to keep them alive
How about brown and white? My kids (4 boys and 1 girl) were never taught there was a difference in people. My kids are all Caucasian of spanish descent. Miss my 55 Olds
I here you man. What happened ? They try to turn us against one another. It's the kids. They don't understand what we went thru...the struggles we faced...the hardships....we have to educate our kids...show them how hard we had to fight for our rights. Our kids have to turn their back on this materialism !
i listened to this song while i was on the toilet and i shat out a giant brown butt product. then it said it would cut my grass for 10 dollars. then i said no and it went to home depot and waited with all the other mexicans for day labor.

THERE HAS NOT BEEN A SYNDICATED TV PRODUCTION LIKE "MI LNDA RAZA", THAT FEATURED MORE CHICANO ARTISTS, AMONG THEM "MALO", FREDDY FENDER, FREDDY MARTINEZ, "EL CHICANO", LITTLE JOE Y LA FAMILIA, SUNNY & THE SUNLINERS, "TORTILLA FACTORY", "LOS UNICOS", AND MANY OTHERS THAT WERE FEATURED IN A BANDSTAND TYPE OF FORMAT SHOW. I WAS THE PRODUCER AND HOSTED THE ENTIRE SHOW IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH, FOR FIVE AND A HALF YEARS. IN HOUSTON MY SHOW HAD THE HIGHEST RATING ON THE SUNDAY, 3 P.M. SLOT.
IT IS VERY POSITIVE THAT THERE ARE STILL CHICANOS WITH PRIDE OF BEING DE LA LINDA RAZA. I BECAME VERY AWARE OF BEING CHICANO WHILE I WAS IN THE MARINE CORPS BACK IN THE 60'S, AND HERE WE ARE OVER 50 YEARS LATER, AND I'M STILL VERY PROUD. THIS SHIT OF "HISPANIC", SUCKS, BECAUSE A HISPANIC IS A SPANIARD, AND I AS A CHICANO AM OF "SANGRE AZTECA". BUT POLITICIANS AND MEDIAS, HAVE TRIED TO CORRUPT THE MINDS OF MEXICANS AND CHICANOS, TO BE ASHAMED OF BEING AZTEC INDIAN .
@ograheem thats the ways things should always be! black and brown togethr, everyone cooling out and having fun! Some of us still hold those values i have many black freinds. PEACE!
I remember this song around the time my son was born. I played it so much that by the time he was old enough, he would hum and sing it in his own baby words.
I danced the calypso with my son in my arms the day of his christening.
I still love and listen to this song some 40 years later. :)
Songs like this are gems to be treasured for a life time.
Oh memories...this song brings me back to summer of 1974,when I was a young man walking the streets of Brooklyn and Queens in NYC. It was amazing how a song could transport you to a higher place, made you conquer your fears and even fall in love with your fantasy girl...It did all that for me and it still makes me feel the same way 37 years later....CecilOsculations Thanks!!!!
i remember back when they played their first concert in LA it was a day i will never forget his brother was in the audience i was just 16 my older cousins took me now rest in piece cuz in memory of you i listen to this song....
This Is My Grandparent's Song <3 Ever Since I Was Little, I'd Watch The 2 Of Them Go Up And Dance 2 This Song & I'd Always Dream Of The Love Of My Life Like That One Day, Spending YEARS Together And Never Getting Tired Of Eachother <3
FOR FIVE AND A HALF YEARS I PRODUCED AND HOSTED A CHICANO BAND-STAND SHOW ON CH. 39 HERE IN HOUSTON. WHAT MEMORIES SEEING THE COVER OF MALO'S FIRST LP. I TRIED, AND TRIED TO HAVE THE GROUP ON THE SHOW, ESPECIALLY AFTER WE LEARNED A LOCAL CHICANO BROTHER, PLAYED THE TRUMPET SOLO ON "SUAVECITO". AT THAT TIME I BELIEVED THE BAND WAS HAVING PROBLEMS, SO I BOOKED "EL CHICANO" INSTEAD. TO U-TUBE, THANX FOR THE MEMORIES. FYI AFTER THE TV SHOW GIG I WENT ON TOUR AS A STAND-UP W/FREDDY FENDER & OTHERS.
my 2nd all time favorite song from the 70's! there is no other word for this song but CLASSIC! thanks for posting the LONG version. by the way, anyone ever seen an actual record label promo poster for this album with the aztec warrior art?

AND "SUAVECITO" WAS THE END OF THE SHOW SONG OF THE "MI LINDA RAZA" SYNDICATED TV PRODUCTION.
texasmovieshd 5 months ago
SLOT.
texasmovieshd 5 months ago
VIVA LA RAZA.

the easy going feel of this song relates to the times. I miss those days in the park, throwing frisbees, token a J and kicking it.
