Here is a Great Idea....for more find me and be the Certified Brother in the U.S of A ; to make sure Student Engineer spies don't learn how to leave a Geometrical-and Aerodynamical finger-print behind. Yet, it all comes down to THE ELEGANCE OF THE F-16. WHAT THE F-14 MEANS. ....and some Men are born to fly !!!!!!!!
REQUIRE A HEART'S MEDALLION TEST OF COURAGE, TENDERNESS, INWARDS CONTROL OF THE EXPRESSION OF ANY EMOTION- ON THE SPECTRUM BY SELF EXAMPLE. THEN AN ACCELORATOR GEAR OR BRAKE?
I would say that the F-16XL would be less maneuverable than the normal F-16. There's a reason why pure deltas (ie without canards) aren't used much anymore in spite of being faster and more efficient.
I agree. It would need canards in order to be more maneuverable than the original F-16, but it would increase drag, which would probably lower its max speed. It doesn't matter though, because as a strike fighter it focuses more on air-to-ground capability than air-to-air, making agility less relevant. More important would be the speed to get in and get out quick!
Pity the F-15E was chosen. This is a much more interesting aircraft. What would it have been called? I like 'Blast Falcon'.
Yes, it was in competition to become the new Enhanced Tactical Fighter (ETF), a kind of Ground Attack Strike Fighter for the Air Force. Unfortunately, the AF choose the F-15E Strike Eagle instead.
It's too bad, the F-16XL looks very futuristic and maneuverable.

yeah true. but this aircraft comes from the early 80's. It competed against the F-15 super eagle. We know who took the contract

At this point, other than for an export version, there is no point in upgrading the F-16. The F-35 is going to take over for it.

Not to mention that the XL would have had a smaller RCS.That is also a fact to consider

Unfortunately?
Did you know the F-15E can carry more payload than a B-17?
And @ 2.5 Mach, AND MUCH more maneuverable than the XL.
Not only that, the F-15 survivability is IMMENSELY higher.
F-16, slightly more maneuverable.
F-15 beats it in every other category.

Anybody know the reason, why the US did not stick to this new design? It looks promising.

I know, DUH!
I'm just saying that's what the French Rafale F1 looks like.

That's basically what the French Rafale F1 looks like.
