  • either era. they used fiberglass for the liner. the liner wasnt supposed to protect your head, just provide a base for the suspension

  • so i might survive if i get shot with and 9mm or a .38 slp, ahh nice, luckly in these stupid country people love 9mm and 38, totally ignore 44s 45s of 357s

  • What gun and calibre were you using?

  • could have saved you the 10/22 ammo. m-1s were tested vs a .45 at 6 feet. if the round penetrated the whole lot was rejected. at least you used a later, trashed helmet and liner, theres some sculptor turning m-1s into "art" by welding parts to the making them look like turtles and ladybugs. sad thing is at least 2 of the shells i saw were ww2 with fair to good paint

  • what caliber was the second gun/rifle you shot with?

  • That wouldn't have done a lot of good against the 7.62x25 Russian-designed handguns the Vietnamese were using at the time.

It obviously wouldn't help at all against the rifles they were using, either. Good for shrapnel, though, I guess.

  • they are tougher than i thought

  • @OperationOverlord644 its not a WWII Helmet its a Vietnam Era M1 and you can buy one at any Military surplus story... this thing wasnt in any kind of shape to try to sell.

  • @OperationOverlord644 Lol. Shove the liner in a cheap shell and tell people it's original

  • what should i buy an m1 us army helmet £38 or mk.6 british kevlar helmet £39

  • i don't know but m1 helmet IS made of steel but i am not sure if they had kevlar for the inner part, which era is this from, WW2 or Vietnam War?

  • @ThePieMaster219 Vietname Era

  • the reason they never fassend the chin strap was becase the suspension system was so poorly constructed that if you got hit with shrapnol or even a bullet passing through the top missing your head the force of the helmet pulling up would literally rip your bottom jaw off

  • now use an ak47!!!!

  • @XxKO3xX Yeah we used a 308 (7.62 x 51) heavy and harder hitting than a AK (7.62 x 39) on a PASGT before once I get a hold of another M1 I will def get a video of an AK or a 308 busting through it.

  • Im amazed it stopped any of them

  • @jimmy202500 yeah we only used the .22LR just to see if it would go through the .223 (5.56) would go through it no issues. Most of these older helmets were made for taking hits at greater distances of 100 meters as well as to protect the user from shrapnel.

  • i got a helmet a long tine ago it had a strange liner that liiks like a night vision mount but made out of wood strips the date says 1971 but the helmet is a turtle shell do YOU know what that is

  • @mrscaryspider It sounds to me that it would be the M1 if it was used by the US during that time. The PASGT did phase out the M1 until the 80s. If you could post a pic I am sure I could help. Also ask WWII1stInfantry, this guy knows alot of about older helmets.

  • @boostedludeh22a4 thanks but i found out on the liner it says that it is english

  • @boostedludeh22a4 I bet you he does know alot about older helmets the queer.. aa thank yaw.

  • The kevlar liner does not help stop the bullets. Even if the helmet stops a bullet, the kinetic energy causes transfer through the metal - like a billard ball striking another, stopping and causing the other ball to get in motion. This force causes the inside surface of the steel shell to buckle and detach. The kevlar liner is there to "catch" the resulting fragments and keep them from entering your skull.

  • @Bf2009 I couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks Bf2009

  • @Bf2009 The liner is made from fiberglass, not kevlar. jeeezus man, try to get it right!

  • @cadceddddd I wasn't far off. In any case, the liner serves the same purpose.

  • @cadceddddd Wrong again its not Fiberglass

  • forget the helmet i wanna know where u got that springfield TRP operator do they still make em cus i cant find em anywhere

  • well the one with the full rail atleast

  • You can still get the full rail from Springfield just through there custom shop. A local gun shop called Guns Plus in Spring Lake, NC has a few full rails and half rails in stock now.

  • WOW quite a bit more effective than I imagined it would be. A rifle round would go right through but this would sure help against shrapnel!

  • You have to understand the design as well, it was made back in the 60s and it was meant to stop bullets at greater distances as well as shrapnel.

  • So' throwing a 3 lb sledge hammer (head shot) would do about the same job as a .45 fmj at 15 ft ? lol... I think a 9mm fmj would go through that helmet at 50 ft. Being smaller cal, and more speed..

  • I will put that to the test very soon, just waiting on a few more helmets so that we can do all of the testing in one shooting.

  • wow thats crazy how much that helmet can really hold up

i thought it wasnt that protective

but that thing can take a beating

im very sure it still doesnt feel good to get hit though

    hahaha

  • We are provided gear to test it any way we see fit. We used a variety of different munitions. This just happened to make it on tape. Sorry you feel that it was a waste of a helmet.
