Great tune. But with the SP Daylight Special, the UP Challenger and, OK, even the German and Brit trains, this is a fantastic experience. Steam power forever! Zowie! Thank you for this.
I was layin' there bored one night in the Navy Lodge in Yokosuka Japan in 1992 and this video came on the TV and I was hooked!!! It is so peaceful and I wanted to go home so bad...It was perfect!
When was the last time you got shivers down your spine to watch a stupid train with a sound track. Crank it up if hasnt happend to you and watch this again, I guarentee you will feel alive again! rich green in the states!! Sing along too..it helps with the shivers..Yeah baby!! travling wooo!
@RICHGREENNOW Grammy winner 2012... Best New age Album of the Year.. Pat Metheny.. yaaaaaaaaa......I have cranked it up. well worth adding a few more decibels, especiallly for this song...
I lived in South East Alaska for somes years (Ketchikan) and one of the many things I missed was the sound of a distant train. I love this song. I listened to it over and over again when I drove down to Atlanta from Alaska.
I love trains, to look at them, ride them, feel their enormous energy and the mystical hold they have on me all of which are captured by Pat Metheny’s musical artistry; combined they give me goose bumps.
I've liked this song since Publix Supermarkets used it in one of their Christmas ads. One of a few times an ad made me go out and buy the music. Target did it again when they used Petula Clark's "Sign of the Times" in one of their ads from the late 90's. Then The Gap used Louis Prima's "Jump, Jive and Wail" in their ad and it was off to the store again for one of HIS cd's.
Every time I hear this I think about being around five or so in the Riverside/San Bernardino area looking down on steam locomotives from a bridge pulling cars in the mid -1940s with my grandfathers. We had a Lionel train set too and we sometimes went to the Colton roundhouse, which was fascinating---one massive loco was used to pull freight over the Rockies...the largest ever built, I think, by Baldwin Locomotive-many huge driving wheels...
A dear friend and music industry giant just passed away. His last wishes were that his friends celebrate his life by listening to music at the precise time of his cremation...which is now. I'm listening to this piece for the millionth time. Last Train Home is a masterpiece of music that so eloquently expresses the poignancy of loss. It always brings tears to my eyes. Thank you Pat.
We are blessed to live in the era of Patrick Bruce Metheny... He has reintroduced me to the beauty of life. He has made me sigh, cry, laugh and most of all think. For that and everything else, I personally thank you.
This song brings tears to my eyes everytime. Rememberig when it first came out in 86 I think my friends and I would hit the road and I bought the tape just for this song and they would always go to sleep on the ride home from anywhere in the midwest back to Indy.Thank u Pat and GOD
...E' da molto tempo, forse troppo, che non viaggio più su un gioiello come questi, ma ti posso assicurare che il mio cuore è rimasto in una cabina di una Gr. 625, di una Gr. 880, oppure di una Gr 685. My oldest brother, a WWII vet, was a train fan...fanatic, if you will. He especially liked the locomotives. From his childhood to his seventies, if he wasn't building model trains and model layouts he was hanging around the yards and stations just admiring them. It saddens me to no end that I could not have discovered this wonderful music and video before he passed.
hello guitar fans, who want to know the work of tb Mazin Silva, Brazilian guitarist, feel free to listen to Brazilian guitar,,,, Mazin SILVA (search youtube)
I remember recording this off the local "Easy Listening Station" sometime during the late 1980's/early 1990's. Never knew the title (which is a problem when trying to find instrumental songs from childhood), but my brother inspired me to search it out. Thanks, bro!
Outstanding editing with the PMG groove, if you never had an interest in "trains", this made me think about it. Ingenuity... trains and the beautifully produced track.
This is the song we chose to memoralize my mother with at her funeral. She loved this song and would ride in the car with us and just look out the window relaxing as her cares of the world worked their way through her. I'm glad I found this this morning. I needed a good cry. Thanks Pat.
Pure magic for both, the eye and the ear. I had tears tingling my eyes when I watched and listened to this gem. Thank you for bringing back some long forgoten memories of my childhood. Beauty !!!
I am seeing this video for the first time in my life. For a train freak like me this pure manna from the heaven. thanks a million. I have put this video in my list of favourite songs. Background music sounds very much indian. I hope to take a ride in a train like that sometime.
Quelles images ! Elles sont superbes ! (Waow, pictures ! They are superb !) La musique aussi. (Music too.) Mais Pat Metheny est le meilleur. (But P.M. is the best). Très beau travail. Merci pour les internautes qui aiment la "bonne" musique et les belles images. (Very good work and many thanks for the web-surfers who like "good" music and beautiful pictures.) PS : I'm not French but Belgian ! ;o)
Driving home late one night many years ago from work and heard this song on a jazz station. Wow! What is this song. Found it. This song never fails to give me goosebumps. I can see from the many comments that it affects people the same way. The ones that bring tears to my eyes are the ones about their Dads who worked for the railroad and passed away. Truely the "Last Train Home". Awesome video. Thank you.
For the last past I've founded the music that I listened to quiete boring. I heard the same tracks over and over again. Today I decided to search for Pat Metheny Group on Youtube because I know my dad enjoys there music a lot. And at the second I heard this I got goosebumps (Sorry for mispelling it if I am) for the first time in a long time. This song is my childhood..
I love trains! They are actually the world's largest musical instruments. No, when trains were invented, the purpose was not for making music. They were intended to haul freight and provide transportation for human passengers. That's what trains were intended for. But trains have rhythm, and trains sing. Trains even dance! The cars sway gently from side to side. So, even while hauling freight and carrying passengers, trains naturally make music by default! Now, that's really cool! Eh?
This song always transports me to a very transcendental state-even from the moment I first heard it years ago. For some reason it heals even my most painful moments. I will always cherish it!
the picture i always had in my head when i heard this song, was looking out of an open window on a train at night with the lights of a city going past. dont know why.
this song not only reminds me of a train ride cross-country, but of the mid west in general: farmers, tractors, and barrels of hay...
people should know how hard it is to make an acoustic piece that invokes a specific thought. that's easy with words, but truly requires skill to do it without them. great job!
This is such a feel good 'lump-in-your-throat' video....you almost need a hanky to watch and listen to it (but you might want to use it to cover your mouth and nose between 1:25 and 2:10, then return to blotting your tears the rest of the way)
My favorite part of this song are the voices at 3:45. I have to close my eyes and let it move me. This song reminds me of when I first moved to Portland, OR in '87 and when I found KINK radio. I've loved this song since then. Great memories.
A BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF MUSIC AND AN ENCHANTING VIDEO..PAT METHENY IS BY FAR A MOST ACCOMPLISHED MUSICIAN..THE SONG TAKES YOU AWAY TO A PLACE WHERE TRAINS ARE ON TIME AND HOME IS YOUR SOLACE..
Don't know how a piece of music can inspire feelings of melancholy and hope at the same time, Metheny does with this one, One of my favorite instrumentals
Evokes an era bygone...in kindergarten, the train tracks were just outside the school...when it would come by, we would all go out, watch, and wave! At graduation when asked what I wanted to do one day, I said "be a railroad engineer!"...I now practice cardiology...
i was on a train once in colorado. it was the silverton to durango... intresting ride!!!! nice job on the video, its captures the mood really well!!!!!!
I lost my sister 26 years ago, I still can remember every turn of her funeral procession as we followed her car, rounding every turn and passing everywhere that was once important in her life to her. That early AM ride, with such a final message. Every time I hear this beautiful piece I am reminded of that amazing, sun-filled autumn day, her last train home. What a beautiful piece of music.
This video and this song reminds me of all the train trips that me and my dad used to take together to San Diego before he passed away..........God I miss him!!!!! I'll have to take a train trip one day soon is his memory......One last ride Dad?
Hey you, Pat's fans... I have a question... Does anybody know the title of the first song on the 2nd CD of double album Travels? Is it on YouTube? Thank you all...
La musica è semplicemente meravigliosa, ma poi con queste immagini così poetiche, così rare, così belle.....mi viene da commuovermi!! Grazie di aver realizzato questo capolavoro!
I will never be able to see a train in the same way again, never! How can a simple video of trains and a song provoke such powerful emotions? I'm not particularly a train fan, but this brought me to tears. Somewhere an old railroad man is crying his eyes out.
@rodmeister74 I might suggest two other videos. One is Restless Heart's "Big Iron Horses," which is more about loss than about trains. The second may be much harder to find, but Windham Hill (the record label) released four videos, each about an hour in length featuring some beautiful cinematography (think "Winged Migration") and Windham Hill artists (Surprise!). I believe the one titled WINTER features the Durango line locomotive. Snow. Scenery. Not one human in sight. Amazing stuff.
Lindsey Eric, you used tofall a sleep amongst the moonlight while this song played. I post the introduction of the children that will someday improve and change the world for a better place. Dont be embarrased be proud that Dad thinks that of you. After all when I'm gone no one will praise you like I do! Think about that.
It is pretty hard to pick up one theme as my favorite on Pat`s repertoire. But I must say that Last Train Home is a perfect example of a sublime piece of this great musician. Your video led me to tears. Congratulations.
A RAIROADIS A GREAT THING. IT EMPLOYS. THE ONE THAT BUILDS IT, THE ONE THAT RIDES IT, THE ONE THAT RELAXES ON IT, THE ONE THAT GETS MEALS ON IT, THE ONE THAT MAKES THE MEALS, THE ONE THAT MAKES IT CLEAN, AND THE ONE WHO SHARES A DREAM!! YES ITS YOUR FRIEND KENNY G
Wow! Love this video!

Saudades!!!

Hey you, Pat's fans... I have a question... Does anybody know the title of the first song on the 2nd CD of double album Travels? Is it on YouTube? Thank you all...
