In Thailand we have a special Panda exhibit built for two adult pandas that we got from china. They are so popular that there is a 24 hour a day TV channel called Panda TV showing what they do and all the daily highlights, especially the baby Lin Ping, who is now over a year old, but already I think around 50Kg... very cute, and very smart too!

When a baby panda's born its only 3-5 ounces and its very hard for the mother to protect it in the wild, and pandas also have very low birthrates. Plus the fact that their usually very docile makes it hard for them to defend themselves about things like poachers who hunts them for fur.

I believe that people would start breeding them for the price that they would bring in. After all, how close to extinction do you think cows and pigs are? Hmm, not very close would be my guess. Using the human greed to recover some of the ground that has been lost to the panda population is not all lose/lose, it can be win/lose. Just my opinion. But, I couldn't ever eat one.

The Chinese don't eat pandas, they protect them in reserves. There's only 1,500-3,000 pandas left in the world. The population has been threatened due to deforestation, farming, and development. You'd know this too if only you'd spend a moment reading up on them before you make an assumption like that.

Yes they are. The population is very near a critical level where not enough breeding individuals spread out over too big an area may result in so much inbreeding that any succeeding generations of Pandas may be unable to produce viable offspring.

@chrisQ1000 actually, if someone wrote an article, in a positive light, about eating pandas... as you mentioned.... I believe that people would start breeding them for the price that they would bring in. After all, how close to extinction do you think cows and pigs are? Hmm, not very close would be my guess. Using the human greed to recover some of the ground that has been lost to the panda population is not all lose/lose, it can be win/lose. Just my opinion. But, I couldn't ever eat one.

@Sk8rRdHd sorry, you are wrong - pigs and cows are bred "just" for food; I am talking about "medicine" ...so, yes, they might start breeding them, like some chinese "firms" are now breeding tigers to kill them for traditional Chinese "medicine" - but many Chinese and other Asian people do not /want/ "medicine" from animals that have been bred in captivity, believing that the body parts of wild animals are more "potent" (sic!) and paying vast amounts of money for the "real thing"...

@chrisQ1000 I was merely talking about up-ping the population of pandas, not saying that I endorse it. And, by advertising that they are tasty or good for you, the population would go up..... whether intelligent or not. Companies would want to be taking advantage of the poorer classes not being able to afford the 'real, wild pandas' and breed them. Wal-mart brand panda in a can. So, no. I wasn't wrong. The population would surge. Even though, I can't see what my original comment was anymore, lol
