  • Nice man. These are the kind of tutorials i like. With a exact list of what u need, great commentary, and a great idea. Thanks for the idea

  • mobs will not spawn in room. all caves and dungons destroyed and lit up. still wont spawn 1.1

  • Would this work in the new snapshot where the mobs have better Ai? (12w08a)

  • @TheOnlyHooD Not working for me :( The mobs don't falling down.

  • But it's AMAZING you get like lots of stuff from it!

  • Endermens dosn't die in my one :(

  • what is the height?

  • the materials seems perfect for me...never play on desert so i can go and fuck it up to build one of this :P

  • It appears this doesn't work in the new snapshot (12w07b) the fence posts are not being moved by the pistons :( hopefully it works in the full 1.2 update.... Im gonna try a fix for just now and if it doesn't work in 1.2 then I can apply my fix

  • Omg great help, you told exactly how it is done! It works AMAZINGLY and I built it on survival singleplayer without mods! It was so cheap considering other traps!

  • Wonderful tutorial and an amazing mob spawner! It's probably the best I've built so far! Takes quite a lot of time and materials, but it's really worth it. Thank you very much for sharing this with us.

  • it works in 1.1

  • Piston isn't pushing fence posts, what should i do?

  • @Gamertronify it works fine, it isn't clear on the back side

  • Seems like a decent drowner. Why even have the fall if everything is just gonna drown at the end?

  • @J0hnnyH3mps33d you absolutely could make it a drowner if you so choose to. The original design was to make the tower endermen friendly. Endermen teleport when they touch water so that is the reason for the shifting floor. Since Minecraft 1.0, endermen have too much health to die from gravity in this fall trap.

  • Made this Tower in Survival Multiplayer. Mobs hardly spawn and if they do, they dont fall and eventually they despawn. Do you have any suggestions on what i could do to fix it? It took me hours haha.

  • Does this one work in 1.1?

  • @iComplementU Sort of. In the state that the video is shown, endermen survive because of their extra health. If you made the floors two tall then it will work perfectly.

  • @hypnotizd I tried to build this in 1.1 and it wouldn't move the fences with the pistons, so I am guessing it will not work in 1.1

  • @iComplementU if you want to kill enderman, add a couple more lava/ sign traps above the original ( i am running 3)

  • Hi man, I create this trap on my server (survival mode), and the spawner give me only two skeleton, i dont know why dont spawning the mobs into the dark room :S Can u help me?

  • @Muky19 You need to light up caves to prevent mobs from spawning in them and to force them to spawn in the tower.

  • Nice design

  • fences dont work :( (piston dont push fences)

  • @GrammyPanties Pistons do push fences.

  • Very good, I built in it my testing world, it worked perfectly. I think I might use this in my Lets Play, if I ever get around it. =)

  • THE GLASS PLANE DOSENT WORK

  • @sniperking41 That's why I've changed it out to use fence posts.

  • Oops, edit to my comment it isn't the wiring I tested this, it's a glitch with pistons...

  • The pistons aren't working because redstone wiring was changed. It isn't sending a signal for some reason because the redstone doesn't connect with the piston itself, it just goes into a constant circuit,

  • Why Didn't the Pistons Work?

  • The mobs spawn but don't walk off of the edge so it doesnt work :(

  • errr mine didnt work :( the piston bit at the bottom and ive deleted the world i did it on, i dont understand why it didnt work though

  • GOD LIGHTING UP CAVES IS SO FREAKING BORING !!!!!!!!!!!

  • does it take awhile for you be getting a lot of mobs falling.. because i just made mine and im only getting like 1-3 mobs falling every 5 min

  • @thesportskid5 You need to light up caves in like a 320x320 area centered on the spawner. The move caves around that let mobs spawn in them the less mobs will spawn in the tower. Get to lighting ;)

  • @hypnotizd Thank you

  • @thesportskid5 make sure their aren't any dark areas even close to it otherwise they will spawn in those areas. Otherwise I don't know what to tell you

  • awesome tower! I understand how everything works except the wiring for the mob spawn switch. The part where you move the redstone signal across to the spine. How did you make it? I only see a redstone wire going across.

  • @STICKMAN99100 When I start bringing the redstone over towards the center, it goes into a block and on the side of this block is a redstone torch. The vertical wiring continues up from this point.

  • @hypnotizd Why Does the water doesen't reach the end at mine?

  • @hypnotizd Hello does endermen grief Cobblestone ??

  • @nicolas94h No, they only could do that in 1.8 / 1.8.1.

  • The fences dont get pushed anymore in 1.0.0. Probably too long... maybe you can put pistons on the side instead of where you have put them. And you need direct redstone to power pistons, so make the redstone place wider by 1 or 2 blocks. I thought lava doesnt always disappear after blocking the source block... maye thats just my minecraft. Overall, the best fall trap ive seen so far and looks good too. :-)

  • @mewantdiamonds The fences do get pushed. I'm using the same tower I built in this video and it works fine. You probably built it with the incorrect dimensions.

  • Does this work for 1.0.0?

  • @louispierce It does work, but it doesn't kill endermen anymore. I'll be uploading a fix for that soon.

  • @hypnotizd I have this about 80% built so is it best for me to tear it down and start again for the enderman fixed version or can i edit this to work with endermen

  • @louispierce The modifications I've made use the existing design. I made the fence post platform narrower, removed basically the entire glass surround, brought the sandstone drop tube down to about 3 blocks above the fences and that is where the lava is. The tower I added halfsteps just to remove spiders from spawning. It's basically and easy conversion from what is already shown.

  • @hypnotizd Well since I'm nearly finished building this verion i will finish it off as im rather enjoying making it and i cant wait to see the video of the improved version so i can finally collect those dam enderpearls

  • @louispierce I'll try to get a video out this weekend showing the changes. I've just been putting it off for too long. The problem is that it just isn't as good as it used to be so I've been looking for solutions to that. With the new AI programmer working on Minecraft, this design could be obsoleted soon so there's that, too.

  • cool cant find a flat and protected place to build it on this server :( ps.can u make it be on a redstone clocks 4 a cuppple seconds insted of the dispenser?. hate refilling stuff

  • I did every thing exactly like you said, but it only spawns 1 or 2 mobs ever 5 min.

  • @masterflipper1 You need to light up caves around the spawner.

  • Hey is it ok to build the gravity trap out of bedrock if it's in too many items mod so grievers won't break it in 1.8?

  • @benben821 No, endermen can pickup bedrock in 1.8

  • the pistons wont push the fences because it's too long :(

  • One last thing Hypno my automatic lever thing with dispenser didn't work also i looked at ur one video how it works but for some reason the dispenser didn't shoot out

  • @InvalidFeeds Did you turn the power off to the bottom block that the pressure plate sits on? Maybe try putting an item on the pressure plate and then taking it back. Unless you didn't wire it properly or have other redstone stuff near it then it should work. Probably double check the wiring is where I'd start!

  • I made tower pretty much exactly as urs in my sp and it doesn't spawn mobs at all maybe one or two but its not efficent for some reason? any reason why>?

  • @InvalidFeeds You need to light up caves in a 320x320 area centered on the tower. If you are on multiplayer if people are outside of that 320x320 mobs will spawn near them and lessen the amount inside the tower.

  • @hypnotizd i lit torches everywhere but i didn't do 320x320 so should i mark the land with blocks or something then find every possible cave i can>? and light them up?

  • @InvalidFeeds Yep, basically. If you don't care about "cheating" you can download something like CartographG which has a "cave mode" option to show you where lit/unlit caves are. Or you could use one of those TNT-xray machines to see through the world to light things up.

  • Comment removed

  • Just got done doing it. works well. the only thing that i didnt do is make the shaft that they all go through as tall because i was high up. works well and getting alot of items from it

  • @imakedookie Oh good. It has a problem killing endermen in 1.0.0, but when I get to it I'll release a video on how to fix that problem :)

  • gettin the items legit was a bitch. im sure it'll all be worth it in the end tho

  • Hypno, Ive been working on this design for about 2 hours now & the pistons arent pushing the fences. any tips ?

  • @Vulpix2011 You need one open space in the fences. Don't fill the entire thing. Maybe adjust the redstone repeaters to be longer between front and back.

  • @hypnotizd Still no luck man, Im actually thinking it could just be a problem with my computer as its from like the 1950s :L I'll let you know if i get it working though (:

  • considering that your timer is 5 minutes (based on item despawn), wouldn't you loose some items that would be collected, as they would have just as long to despawn?

  • @jeirda5 Yes, it's possible you'll loose a small fraction of the drops. So small you'd never even notice. Feel free to setup a long long line of redstone repeaters to make the timer shorter.

  • I've tried to make it on server (1.0.0) and mobs are spawning but only 2-3 every 5 mins what should I do??

  • @maxobob1234 Light up all the caves in a 320x320 area centered on the mob system. Make sure if other people are on the server that they're by the mob tower. If they're in a different part of the map mobs can spawn by them instead.

  • @hypnotizd Thx

  • To stop endermen spawning just make it a 2 block height on the spawning floors

  • @aviogaming But why would you want to prevent endermen spawning? Enderpearls! You can teleport with those, turn them into eye of ender for finding strongholds and getting to the end! -- Although I do admit this tower is semi-broken for endermen in 1.0.0. I'll be releasing an updated design to this tower soon.

  • @hypnotizd Yes please do, I have only got 1 enderpearl in total from this trap. They seem to get killed/stuck from the lava. Sometimes they fall through but they then just teleport away. Other then that it is a great gravity trap.

  • @hypnotizd this is the best mon trap I've ever seen on youtube, I think it has an incredible spawning rate. You make the tutorial I hell of a lot easier with the guidance of your chatting. I think it looks neat and tidy, unlike those ugly cobblestone ones, I will be liking and subbing and will be building this asap, THANKS :D

  • @aviogaming Thanks man. I too like the way it looks compared to most other tower designs! Hope you enjoy!

  • I like the squid just chilling at the end.

  • Uber trap! Also I somehow actually successfully made this trap and now I'm

    Rich!

  • wierd how u vid is 29 min long i didnt think thats posible other then doing the sub thing i think

  • why do you need a dispenser with zombie meat? also why do you need signs in between the floors?

  • @FlyingRustler The dispenser with zombie meat is a 5 minute timer. When the zombie meat despawns after being shot out of the dispenser, it will trigger the timer. The timer sends a pulse to the floor to automatically shift it, sending the collected items into the water stream for collection. This allows you to be away from the computer at the mob trap while still collecting items. Otherwise the items would stay on top of the fences and you'd never get them.

  • @hypnotizd ah. thats really smart. i get what the fence posts do, but what do the signs in between the floors do? the signs aren't holding up any water or anything. would it work without the signs?

  • @FlyingRustler Oh sorry, forgot the second part of your first question. The signs trick the mob's AI into thinking there is a block they can stand on. They walk onto the signs and fall through into the trap. Without the signs the mobs are programmed to not fall off a ledge that is higher than 3 blocks. The gravity fall trap works because of this. However in Minecraft 1.9pre6 and higher mobs stop wandering after 5-10 seconds of spawning making this trap less effective.

  • @hypnotizd I tried to increase the effectiveness of this trap by putting water flow on the lowest spawning floor and make the spawning floor above 3 x3. hoping that mob that spawn drop down before they just freeze there, I also occasionally go up into the spawning area and check. Everytime i check there is no mob on the spawning floor, proven that making hole around the spawning floor increase the rate of mob falling.

  • Thanks for help man =D

You are the new kieshar man!

  • Hey, like the mob tower. However, for some reason, when I built it myself (although with only four spawn floors) none of the endermen get killed. They just drop to the bottom, burn for a while and then the flames extinguish themselves, leaving them with at least two hearts. Have you had this problem since 1.0.0 or would you have any idea what's causing it for me?

  • @MooonGorilla I have also seen this in my creative world where I built this tower. I built it in 1.9pre4 I believe but endermen have been changed apparently. I'm not sure what the change is but I've used halfslabs on the bottom 3-4 floors and endermen are still surviving. I really should spend some time and improve this design for 1.0.0.

  • @hypnotizd Ahk, good to know its not just me. I'll try optimising it for 1.0.0 too (if I find anything I'll tell you of course).

  • i dont understand why you put sign in each spawning floor...

  • @monkey8113 Mobs see the signs and think it's a block they can stand on. Their AI is confused so they walk right off the edge. Without the signs they will not walk off a drop higher than 3 blocks normally.

  • @hypnotizd I add the sign and it work faster! Why you still need lava while the height alone is enough to kill them?

  • @monkey8113 The lava is for endermen. It set them on fire and did some damage to them as they were falling through. Sadly this doesn't work in 1.0.0 to kill endermen anymore. I've been making some changes to the design of this tower to work with 1.0.0 and I'll release an update video for it when completed.

  • @hypnotizd Notice me when you release a new version=D

I've realise that no endermen is killed also.

It just teleport to somewhere else making my 3 block height spawning area a waste,

  • i dont understand why you put sign in each spawning floor...

  • LOLOL

  • Does this work in 1.0.0??

  • hey i tried making this on a server and i pretty much got it set up but no mobs are spawning, should i make a video or would just explanation work?

  • @AnderZ312 You need to light up caves in a 320x320 area around the trap and if you have people on the server with out who are not around the trap they'll have mobs spawning by them reducing the speed of spawning inside.

  • @hypnotizd well that sucks, its a server that has towns ALL OVER the place, so a natural mob trap would be impossible?

  • @AnderZ312 Not impossible but impractical. You'll have to wait until most people log off before it will work properly unless you can get everyone to gather at the mob trap area.

  • MY "SPINE WON'T WORK EVERYTHING IS CORRECT BUT IT DOESN'T TURN THE STICKY PISTONS ON?OFF

  • is glowstone ok for the 16 tall body

  • @robmaskilla I would say no. The reason lava is at the bottom of that area is to prevent light from affecting the spawn rates of the bottom-most floor. If you put glowstone right below the first spawn floor it won't spawn anything.

  • @hypnotizd ok thanjyou btw this video is very helpful

  • @imaddictedtowow112 Also, removing your comment for excessive vulgarity.

  • @imaddictedtowow112 You don't need flying to complete it. Build scaffolding out of dirt and use ladders.

  • how safe would this be to make in hardcore? I'm in need of these supplies, and this seems like the safest one to build so far.

  • I did the whole floor thing in 2

  • Wait is it the 1.0.1 pre-release

  • @dherrera110 No, it is Minecraft 1.0 the full release of Minecraft

  • And also this is the best mob trap ever I used to never get anything at all in mine but yours looks really good. Omg when u said 1.0.1 was out o jumped up, ran strait to my room and turned my laptop on

  • Oh thx

  • Is 1.9 out yet?

  • @dherrera110 Nope and it will never be. Minecraft 1.0.0 was released yesterday though. It's out of beta now.

  • I love the disine thank you, but take forever to build.

  • can we have the schematics?

  • ive made this trap but no mobs are spawning inside no theres no light in there

  • @joe11223344556677 You need to light up all caves in a 320x320 area centered on the mob tower.

  • @hypnotizd ok thank you

  • What's the point of all the signs in the spawning tower? There's no water/lava on them!

  • @Delocaz Mobs see the signs as a solid block to walk on. This confuses their AI which normally prevents them from walking off an edge greater than 3 blocks.

  • @hypnotizd Wow, that is clever :P Thanks! (Also, i built it and it works perfectly! I got a stone flat world)

  • HELP!!!! i have setup everything right up to the fences i shoot the pistons and nothing happens and have tried everything any suggestions.

  • @glitchguid Verify that the repeaters are setup so the first one closest to the front is on the second click, the other two are on the last click. Make sure you don't have more than 12 fence posts in a row. Pistons can only push up to 12. If you have more, you might also want to verify that you haven't made the killing floor too long.

  • LOL squid spawner

  • Great vid I made this in my world and it works perfectly

  • Hey, I just wanted to ask what would be more efficent:

Build more floors or build more towers ?

I already have dug out a pretty big area with would be suitable to host 4 of your towers 2x2. Would it make sense to connect those 4, make a central collection point ?

  • @micharulz With the design shown in this video, if you build it at sea-level, there is room for only one more floor. I personally would build more towers unless you have an existing quarry that goes down to bedrock. In that case it would most likely be better to add additional floors. Your idea of connecting 4 together is a good one. You could rig up the automatic timer to fire off all 4 of them, too.

  • @hypnotizd Thanks for the fast answer buddy :)

Yes I got a quarry which goes down to bedrock, so Ill probably add as much floors till I hit the cap and then try more towers, if the droprates dont satisfy me !

Btw great tuts and vids, youre subbed, Sir !

  • Lol at the squid in the item collection in the origional tower at the end of the video

  • man i literally just spent the last 2 days making the old mob tower you used and you come out with this -__- haha

  • @davidlinder0987 Sorry! The old tower was just a proof of concept and still a work in progress. That's why I didn't really show how to build it.

  • WO NVM I USED MC EDIT AND PUT STONE every where besides my mob thingy (sorry caps) i put stone around and under it and now mobs are spawning ALOT maybe 60 % of what yours is... maybe 70

  • kk thnx... ill try this in bout 15 minutes got to do somethin.. make sure you check this around that time cuzz thats when ill do it.. and while im gone how do i find the caves? and do you want me to light up the outside area around it to.. like on the ground?

  • light up caves? like go mining and put torches in every single one?

  • @djdevilmonkey That's exactly right. Places that monsters can spawn outside of your mob tower leech the amount the tower can spawn. If mobs can only spawn in the tower and nowhere else it will give you the best results.

  • @hypnotizd HELP!!!! i have setup everything right up to the fences i shoot the pistons and nothing happens and have tried everything any suggestions.

  • Ok i built this EXACTLY to scale... everything works except only 1 monster spawns about every 20 minutes.... just saying the only part i used half slabs on was the roof, i built it out of stone not sandstone, it was on creative, everything else + glass was the same plz help me

  • @djdevilmonkey You need to light up all the caves in the area. How big of an area? 320x320 centered on the mob tower. The more you light up the better.

  • Does this work for 1.9.5 pre?

  • @ToxicInsaanity Yes. I use 1.9pre4 because 1.9pre5 has too many bugs.

  • gona start building this on my m8ts server all i need is for him to do the lava -.-

  • Hmmm, earlier i asked about the pistons not being able to move. It appears that they don't seem to be able to push fence posts. as which ever side with the fence posts touching will not work. This is strange because it works fine for you and most likely many other people who have made this :/

  • @teaisloveable Count how many fence posts each piston is trying to push. If it is more than 12 you need to figure out where you made the floor wrong. Pistons can only push up to 12 movable objects. Also, if you don't have the repeaters setup properly, both sets of pistons will try to push at the same time and the fences will not move.

  • Nice design! Now if only I could manage such an efficient system that can also convert to an EXP farmer. Right now for EXP I am using 3x high pads on pressure plates and pistons pushing them into a single-wide drop trench with minecarts picking them up. But the fire in this system would probably kill them too fast.

  • Now build it with less signs ffs.

  • @imPutty Why?

  • jeez, this is like 40x as hard and 10x as long in vanilla.

  • @DerpZombie There are other simpler designs. This one is about as high efficiency as you can get that includes endermen spawning and automatic item collection. It'll give you a nice project to work on in vanilla survival, though! I plan on building this in a non-creative mode world once Minecraft goes retail. Should be a nice challenge.

  • It's a very interesting design. I particularly like how they drop through lava and are so set on fire so they die even if they survive the fall damage. I've only ever dropped pigs through lava before, for cooked pork.

Built over a deep ocean biome, I should imagine this is phenomenally productive.

I found the "jump to" index in the description to be a wonderful idea and very helpful when I wanted to go back to rewatch parts.

  • @TheMindfiend I've seen that jump to index in someone else's tutorial videos before, but sadly I cannot remember who's. It's a good way to break up long tutorials and good reference points for viewers to go back to review a certain point. Yes, this is the mob tower design I plan on building in my LP world once I start that back up again. It will be in an ocean biome and technically "perfect" for spawning once I get finished :)

  • @hypnotizd Red3yz?

Am looking forward to you building this in your LP. Only 2 weeks now until we can all stop filling time and get back to our Let's Play. If I remember correctly (when do I ever do that?) you said you were planning on doing SH Kaizo Caverns. Will you be starting it during the next 2 weeks to fill time until the official release? Can't wait for the release so that we can all get back to LPing properly.

  • @TheMindfiend I started recording Kaizo Caverns last night. I'll probably start releasing episodes tonight or tomorrow. I want to get a few prerecorded before I started releasing, though.

  • @harrygamer u can, just make the piston arm stop the lava from flowing instead of a half slab. And put a block on top of the piston arm block so that it won't let light through when u don't want it to. Hopefully I explained it well enough.

  • does this work in pre 5?! the pistons won't push the fences!

  • @24345726 Yes, it works in pre5. I just loaded my test world and checked. Did you leave a gap in the fences? In the tutorial I said fill in the center with fences but leave that back row empty. If you don't leave the gap the pistons can't push them.

  • @hypnotizd I'm sorry, i actually made the whole thing 1 too long and the pistons can't push more than 12 blocks. it works now :D

  • well made :)

  • @ZangBeast Thanks! :D

  • why the signs?

  • @Syntox09 Signs serve two purposes in this system. They prevent liquids like water and lava from flowing where we don't want it and they confuse mobs into thinking the ground is solid so they walk off the edges into the fall trap.

  • You sound like the "Freemans mind" guy.

  • Absolutely epic!

but i seem to be having a small problem. When adding the pistons and the testing button, the active redstone will ignore the pistons at the front and then continue on and power the ones at the back? This may sound unclear but I have got no idea what I have done wrong.

I actually designed a mob trap when you released your first video about this new design type. But I have found myself making this one as its probably more amazing. :P

  • @teaisloveable You don't see the floor move or the pistons don't move? I had that problem in the video when hooking up the remote button because the first repeater needed another tick of delay. If the pistons just arn't receiving power then I'd start manually debugging the wire. Try placing a red stone torch at the end of the front pistons and see if they extend when the red stone dust receives power and then go from there.
