Howdy, I am flying a double horse 9116, it is fixed pitch with motor driven tail blade and it it yawing uncontrolably, i assume it is something with the gear or back motor, i was wondring if you could help me out.
Hi Mr Dave i am a first timer rc pilot i have a comet 500 can you give me an advice about main blade do i have to screw it really tight? pleas reply...
hello sir im ronald from philippines and im your no. 1 guide in helianyway i have favor to you can u make a video for a 3d or inverted lesson like that in your video thanks
I don't agree with his saying that you NEED to use both thumb and forefinger on the left stick. I've tried flying that way and I have MUCH more trouble keeping throttle input separate from yaw input (or vice versa) than I do when just using my thumb. Furthermore, I see plenty of professional 3D aerobatic pilots that just use their thumbs on both sticks too. It's purely a matter of personal preference and not a "rule" of any kind.
i love your videos,i probably have seen all of them 500 times. i love planes and choppers and such. all your tips are very helpful. i fly the firebird phantom (why did they discontinue it!!??) your #1 fan, robert
i just have to say that you are an insperation for me to keep trying this heli stuff. so far im not good at anything just the coaxle ones. i have a trex600 and a blade4003d that im good at crashing. this is all new to me so i just keep on trying i guess. i just got a training stand maybe that will help. so far it's just been a lot of money ...lol lol.
Thanks for the videos you have produced, they are good tutorials for those of us contemplating buying a RC helicopter. I intend to purchase the Blade 400 one day and a simulator to practice on before I get ahead of myself.
That's sad how people (or should I say "kids") complain about such little things like the music. Dave, I want to thank you for all the work you've done to make those vids. I learn a lot from you and all your videos. Let me tell you that after one year of learning and practicing, I now fly a simple Blade mSR to a Trex 550. Thank again for your great work.
@frankygoestocanada ... The vid is awesome. Nightflyyer is a natural teacher and an obviously accomplished pilot and builder. However the "music" is distracting from the video and quite annoying.
I am trying to find out, how much power the blade 400 produces full pitch and full power? In other words, if we would put one of those scales we use to weight fish under the helicopter, it would show how many pounds or how many kilos?
I wish you did not show yourself letting the sticks go and snap back to center, When your learning, flying around, or even doing 3D you always want your fingers on the sticks at all times. Other than that, I think it should be helpful to others.
Hey i just bought a Blade 400 my very first helicopter ever! i have had FSOne Simulator for 2 years now and decided to get me a 3D heli. I thought i was ready for it but WOW its so sensitive in the air!! way different from the simulator... good thing i havent crashed it. Your vids have thought me a lot!! Thank you for your vids :D
Where can I get a training pole like that? I Have been having some major problems getting my Dragonfly 400 tuned correctly. I appears that all is working until it lifts off then it begins to spin and pirouette. I have tried everything that I know to stop it but it still does it. Any suggestions?
i just crashed my blade cx3 replades inner and outer main shaft as well a blades and swashplate as well as the nonadjustable linkages my trims are not enough to kepp it still at hover i have to hold the right stick halfweay back and halfway to the right i am afriaed to touch the servo horns unbtill i know whick way to move them plese help!!!!!
Hi Dave. I'm sure you've heard this question like a million times but I need you expert opinion on which RC heli should I start on. So far I've narrowed it down between the Esky Lama V4 and the Esky Honey Bee V2. My flying experience so far is on a Syma S107, had it for abour a week and so far I only crash it like 5 times. Any comments and recommendation will be gladly appreciated. Thanks
@coolRCaction Thank for the tip. Actually I decided to start off with a Walkera 5-10 2.4 ghz mostly hovering indoors. I kinda getting the feel of the controls, it's just like when I started off with RC cars only this TIME it's like 10 times more nerve wrecking. I might pick up a 450 next time when I'm ready for the next level. Thanks again.
im a bit of a plane man my self but really getting into helis over the past few years,
back when i was learning to fly planes, rc helis were very expensive and not many electric kits were available or they were very experamental in, i can remember when the picco was released, i sooo wanted one lol but nowdays with the likes of the blade 400, its truely an engeneering marvel, it still strikes me as amazing how far rc has come in only 10 years or so,
good video! i just got my first rc heli a Blade MSR, i believe you also have one of these that was given to you.
4 channel is a bit hard for a beginner like me but im able to hover it & have started moving around but struggle when heli is coming towards me or side on lol.
IMF!! This vid has been a life saver especially that tip on pulsing the sticks, I've always jerked them around. By the way do you have a BladeCP+? That's what I use.
Very informative, thank you. I am learning on a Blade 400 and I am getting to grips with the handling, took it up quite high and moved forward about 10 metres to bring it down on a really nice landing, mainly to do with Sim training which helps a lot, but keeping in mind that I fly the heli and not the other way round was a very good tip!
i would like to see a vid on the different types of heli 2ch 3ch 4ch ect and difference between fixed pitch and coaxial im new to this stuff and i would like to know what to look for after my begginer heli!
You should do a video on flying 3d...for example you said that you should pulse the stick when controlling the heli and don't hold it fully one way or the other or it would cause the heli to roll...is that how you would roll when your in 3d mode, by pushing the stick fully one way or the other?
I hated the picolo heli, mine shipped with a motor that was too weak to lift the supplied battery, when i replaced the motor and battery it took off great but would never hold its trim settings and the slightest draft would disturb its flight. oh and upon even the lightest of landings u almost always broke a landing skid strut, plus all in it cost as much as a eco8!
Having trouble getting my 4003d to hover. It seems like i need alot of trim just to get it off the ground. As i roll on power the heli would lean over to the left with zero stick input
Does anyone have a video of initial setup and first flight info?
hey there is this new site called lockerz that gives you free prizes that you get with your points..google it if you dont believe me or check out my video..pm me if your interested (I NEED AN EMAIL ADDRESS to send you and invitation) SORRY
Like I said, check the trim. It could be the trim tab on the back so experiment with it and see what it does. Also try and adjust the gain on the gyro if you can. With that said, if you're serious about flying helis, I would invest in a T-Rex 450 electric heli. It has all the functionality of the larger nitro helis with a fraction of the cost. It will also be much easier to handle than what you have now which will make the hobby more enjoyable for you. Parts are cheap too in case of crash.
to dhart1977, My problem occur when I change the head to CNC and seen then I coud fly the heli no more..I am the beginner so I am not sure how to fix it haha
One question, I just stumbled upon your videos so I will ask you. Why is it when I go to slowly take off my heli, it starts to lean to the right. I have tried to trim it out and unless I go hard trim left I cant get it to respond. All controls work so what can I do?
not yet. i know in forward flight one blade moves faster than the other and creates more lift but not while its sitting. I may try adjusting the control horn and put it on the last hole for more throw so a little adjustment will go farther.
hi dave once again i wanted to know what is the soloution to my heli shark 450 when i turn on the heli light on gyro keeps blinking and also reciver and the beep beep and solid beeeeep but lights keeps blinking what do you this is the problem with heli
A real 4-6 channel heli with a tail rotor will never hover on its own very long. They require constant stick inputs and very tiney ones, at that. Good luck.Dave
I have a SPEKTRUM DX6I with a blade 400 3d heli ... On the right stick when i push forward the rotors go backwards and when i push backwards the rotors go forwards ... I took the blade to a hobby shop to install new servos and the guy messed up my original controls ... Can you HELP ??
it dosent sound like it was your servos that were the problem. all you need to do is go through the dx6i's menu and look for 'reverse' and try reversing the elevator.
technically yes but u have to have it set up right u cant be flying around and then just take ur hands off and expect it to stop and hover. helis arent self correcting.
Hello Nightflyyer,whats the difference between a 315 mm blade and a 325 mm blade{aside from the 10 cm's=)}is there a perforfance difference,more controle??
Thanks kindly for your comments. So sorry I have not had a chance to get back to you very quickly.
If you see my latest video, 300th, you will see how many emails I have and you will know why. LOL.
More lift, blades run a bit slower too, and easier to fly. Just like bigger wings are better for planes. But it is marginal, and you would have to be a good pilot to feel the difference. Good luck.
Tips away and thanks for the kudos. I am nightflyyer, since I wrote all the night flying articles in the 70's in magazines and still fly a lot deep into the night with lights on my planes and helis.
gday dave . i got a heli with a tail rotor that is pointing up not pointing on the sdie whats the deal with that dave is it ok , my heli still flyes really good in doors as well outdoor with very little wind i am a newby so be gentle its a 3ch its a Huan Qi 813 thanks anyhow ...
Yes, see my flying disco ball video. It is the same on that. Since there is no cyclic head steering it uses the rotor to move the heli forward and backward. Coaxials need no tail rotor for yaw, so they did it that way. Not as effective, but works.
Finally!! Exactly the kind of basic video I was looking for. I didn't know anything about RC Heli's. Now I have a few ideas to build my own. Thank you so much NightFlyyer. You rock. Keep teaching us. :D
hiya, i noticed when you showed your tail, you have a lot of movment, i have a HBK2 and there is very little movemnt either way and i was just wondering would this affect my tail authority, would changing from stock servos make a difference
Servos wont make much difference. It is the end point adjustments on the tx that you can make it run from stop to stop, usually. Too much is also difficult to control. As long as you can hold the tail and make good turns, you will be fine.
It goes in between the tail servo (or tail rotor motor) and is set to apply opposite pitch and wind force to the heli when jerked to the side to side from wind thrusts or radical moves. Max pitch is usually only about 4 degrees each way.
I have 5 Piccolo V2's. they have no servo's or boards. I pd 10$ each. Can you reccomend what i got to get to get them flying? I want 1 of em to fly and other 4 are for parts.
I thank you so much. I just wish you would of told me to get the McX earlier. I picked up one up today. (heli number 9) and i really got the feel of this little micro. I still crashed a few times but my error. When i master this one I will attempt my CPv3 again. Again I thank you. Your vids are great. ty ty ty
Pulse is the trick. My bad. I could blame it on the sun in my eyes but it was totally my fault. At least i got 20 sec's hovering time till back to the hobby store. lol.
I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of my first RC Helicopter. I went for the 4ch fixed pitch 2.4 g honey bee. Was this a wise move? I was considering the CP2, but figured it may be too much for a beginner. Could you also send me your 9 tips please? Thanks for the informative vids. Tomorrows job is to make a trainng stand :)
its a wise move belt cp2 is pretty difficult to fly. i've just started off with belt cp2... dont event ask how many parts have i replaced. best of luck to you .
Howdy, I am flying a double horse 9116, it is fixed pitch with motor driven tail blade and it it yawing uncontrolably, i assume it is something with the gear or back motor, i was wondring if you could help me out.

You could always start with the plan of buying stuff off some people for a low price and then selling to other people for a higher price.
Thats a supermarket.
If you told a bank that was your business plan, they wouldn't loan you a dime.
The bank will say people just won't pay you the little extra money for the convenience, they will just go to the supplier.
3nasacova 11 months ago
What is a business plan?
If you go to a bank wanting money for a business you'd like to start you'd better have a plan! A business plan!
What's that?
A business plan is a planny sort of plan to show a bank you can make money.
Banks will not bank on you until you have a business plan.
Did I just use a lot of words without saying anything?
Sorry.
Isn't the plan to make shit loads of money?

One question, I just stumbled upon your videos so I will ask you. Why is it when I go to slowly take off my heli, it starts to lean to the right. I have tried to trim it out and unless I go hard trim left I cant get it to respond. All controls work so what can I do?
dhart1977 2 years ago
I have the same problem with 2 of my ex heli..didnt know wat to do...did you fix it?
cooldragon224 2 years ago
not yet. i know in forward flight one blade moves faster than the other and creates more lift but not while its sitting. I may try adjusting the control horn and put it on the last hole for more throw so a little adjustment will go farther.
dhart1977 2 years ago
dhart1977:
I think thats because of the tail rotor.
gorzsony 2 years ago
the tail is not turning, its like its trying to bank to the right.
dhart1977 2 years ago
Yes, but the tail rotor not only rotates the helicopter but moves to the right (or left). It works like a little ventilator.
gorzsony 2 years ago
yes, but the tail rotor is not going to take the whole heli and try to turn it over.
dhart1977 2 years ago
But it does. lol

hi dave once again i wanted to know what is the soloution to my heli shark 450 when i turn on the heli light on gyro keeps blinking and also reciver and the beep beep and solid beeeeep but lights keeps blinking what do you this is the problem with heli
rsingh485 2 years ago
You can only get close. The rest is the hard part and why most people give up.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
A real 4-6 channel heli with a tail rotor will never hover on its own very long. They require constant stick inputs and very tiney ones, at that. Good luck.Dave

I have a SPEKTRUM DX6I with a blade 400 3d heli ... On the right stick when i push forward the rotors go backwards and when i push backwards the rotors go forwards ... I took the blade to a hobby shop to install new servos and the guy messed up my original controls ... Can you HELP ??
skypirate553 2 years ago
it dosent sound like it was your servos that were the problem. all you need to do is go through the dx6i's menu and look for 'reverse' and try reversing the elevator.
let me know if that helped
joemsif 2 years ago
hey Joe! How s it going ?
spshecot 2 years ago
That is true.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
Reverse the elevator servo on the TX and all should be well.

mxf7010g8k 2 years ago
technically yes but u have to have it set up right u cant be flying around and then just take ur hands off and expect it to stop and hover. helis arent self correcting.
mxf7010g8k 2 years ago
Hey NightFlyyer that practice stick for your helicopters, is cool you should patent it.

Hello Nightflyyer,whats the difference between a 315 mm blade and a 325 mm blade{aside from the 10 cm's=)}is there a perforfance difference,more controle??

More lift, blades run a bit slower too, and easier to fly. Just like bigger wings are better for planes. But it is marginal, and you would have to be a good pilot to feel the difference. Good luck.

Hello NightFlyer.
I'm always checking here to see what new tips and reviews you got for us. Thank you for all your advice and time.
Can you please send me the 9 tips?
Also, why is the name NightFlyer? It reminds me of Knight Ryder the car. Anyway thank you for your help.

Tips away and thanks for the kudos. I am nightflyyer, since I wrote all the night flying articles in the 70's in magazines and still fly a lot deep into the night with lights on my planes and helis.

gday dave . i got a heli with a tail rotor that is pointing up not pointing on the sdie whats the deal with that dave is it ok , my heli still flyes really good in doors as well outdoor with very little wind i am a newby so be gentle its a 3ch its a Huan Qi 813 thanks anyhow ...
bullzye01 2 years ago
Yes, see my flying disco ball video. It is the same on that. Since there is no cyclic head steering it uses the rotor to move the heli forward and backward. Coaxials need no tail rotor for yaw, so they did it that way. Not as effective, but works.

hiya, i noticed when you showed your tail, you have a lot of movment, i have a HBK2 and there is very little movemnt either way and i was just wondering would this affect my tail authority, would changing from stock servos make a difference
martyn2186 2 years ago
Servos wont make much difference. It is the end point adjustments on the tx that you can make it run from stop to stop, usually. Too much is also difficult to control. As long as you can hold the tail and make good turns, you will be fine.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
It goes in between the tail servo (or tail rotor motor) and is set to apply opposite pitch and wind force to the heli when jerked to the side to side from wind thrusts or radical moves. Max pitch is usually only about 4 degrees each way.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
I have 5 Piccolo V2's. they have no servo's or boards. I pd 10$ each. Can you reccomend what i got to get to get them flying? I want 1 of em to fly and other 4 are for parts.
penneyc 2 years ago
There is not much you can do with those elevator helis. Get a Blade MCX and you will be in heaven.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
I thank you so much. I just wish you would of told me to get the McX earlier. I picked up one up today. (heli number 9) and i really got the feel of this little micro. I still crashed a few times but my error. When i master this one I will attempt my CPv3 again. Again I thank you. Your vids are great. ty ty ty

Pulse is the trick. My bad. I could blame it on the sun in my eyes but it was totally my fault. At least i got 20 sec's hovering time till back to the hobby store. lol.
penneyc 2 years ago
Bummer. Well at least your not giving up. Crashing is part of the learning curve and every flight for me is just another lesson too.
