Regardless of your curriculum preference, as professionals that should be lovers of children, I'm confused as to why people are making the disrespectful and insensitive comments regarding a product produced by children. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. Thank you Miss Wallis for understanding that in order to improve the state of education in America, WE have to think out of the BOX.

Miss Wallis, it would be nice if you could make some corrections to this video. The "robot " card and "bird" card are not the same. Also, the "yak" card is missing from the set. You might also add the "schwa " (ə) sounds: a, i, o, and e on the "tug" card. Place a dot over each letter so that the students understand it is representing the schwa sound. This is extremely important as it is the most common vowel sound in English. Remember, you are representing the LAUSD. Please make us proud! :-)
Great job? Keep reading? Are you kidding?? This isn't reading at all. These letter/sound cards don't even make sense - lamb represents /a/ and camera represent /k/ - It's no wonder kids are struggling when Open Court is forced at them.
lamb represents /a/ because short vowels are OVERWHELMINGLY found as medial sounds in syllables. /k/ is a phoneme like in camera. there's no such thing as /c/.
it good

You are right about that!

@martinxe Sound spelling cards aside, Open Court does suck especially when you're forced to spend half the school day on it.

How is "there no such thing as /c/"?
cmurq 3 years ago
there's a /k/ and /s/. C is a grapheme for BOTH phonemes... not its own.

This is great except that the robot card is confused with the bird card. Robot makes the sound /r/ not /er/ !
