The world should function like this

where you can learn anything anytime.

By gaining access to videos like this among other topics, it will bring a leap in society as educational values increases.

I strongly support your idea, and more instructors like you should do the same.

    once again, thank you.

  • is it Maya the best software to make 3d or animation? i am a GD but like to learn it.

  • where do you get maya 8.5?

  • Thnx for the help can you create more videos on build?

  • thank u for helping everyone. thank u

  • A very cool concept but, reading the comments does the host actually reply to any of the questions posted?

  • great tutorials thank you

  • hey i have maya 2010 is this tutorial outdated or the interfaces are the same

  • 2010 is just a little better. same layout though. i have 2010 also. heard you can't render in mental ray in 8.5 either.

  • Confound you, I have Maya 2009.

  • can we really learn maya on line

  • @prasadpearls2002 asolutely

  • 1 question is this the correct program to use when adding an item into a film for e.g( have a clip of me and a few mates calling in a spaceship, and then having the animated one come in a blow some shit up) is this the correct one, if not can someone point me in the correct area.

  • I think Adobe after effects does that,

  • Thanks for the information it really is helpful and I can't wait to you post new one. One thing though, where are the tutorials for part 3.

  • can MAya 8.5 and Maya 2008 co-exist on the same PC????

  • i'm new in maya but i know some things and have a question...

it is: how many frames do i need for 10 seconds?

i mean what's the frame rate?

  • if you're talking about animating then 12 to 24 fps is usually the standard.

  • lol

  • it's all the same, the only difference is the plugins

  • Sir, I do prefer visual tutorials. It has worked with me on my last year of high school, All I watched was discovery channel and youtube , I didn't do any homework, I passed all my finals.

  • Oh wow brilliant idea ^,^ I found I learn really fast with video, in program, and a person to bounce my questions off of, ie: I want to do something to a shape, or there's a problem with the process unforeseen, but the tutorial doesn't say, but I have a person near by who knows lots more than me or everything about the program, as I fix the problem myself I learn it. ^_^

  • lol i have maya 8.5 and still havent learned to use use it cause i have to school im in the 8th grade or over here in Mexico 2nd secondary grade.

  • Definitely want to go to Hull this September.

  • youtube is like a classroom that's true. either you learn or you don't it doesn't matter as long as you had fun. please reply.

  • I have bought Maya unlimited 2009. I am just a beginner and I know that 3d Art has 4 components ----------

    1) Modeling

    2) Animation

    3) Texturing

    4) Rendering

Photoshop is normally used for rendering. Does Maya have all the other 3? Because, I haven't seen Lighting and Texturing in many Maya 3d works. Do we need diff software for that? Some of my web-friends said that the combination of

    * VIZ2008 - scene

    * Brazil r/s V2 pro beta - rendering

    * Texporter - to save unwraped wire image

  • WOW! seing this all the was form Puerto Rico. Never worked w/ any animation, cant wait to post my video, still working on it. This is GENIUS of an idea!

  • You have NO IDEA how helpful these tutorials are for me. I'm a very VISUAL person, so this is sooooooooo much easier than learning from a textbook. Being able to see exactly what you're doing on your screen is priceless.

  • Wow thank you very very much!

    Sadly, I only have maya 9 :(

    Please help mee!

  • count me in

  • Glad to have you...

  • this is great! I wish I had found you earlier in my Intro Maya class. Since I am Learning Disabled, I am usually a little slower than most. This "class room" will help me pace myself accordingly without feeling I am behind. Keep up the good work.

  • This is really cool I have to go buy the software now. I have subscribed and will be listen and taking your message.

  • can u please tell me of any source/site for free download of maya8.5 without the watermark? thanks

  • Oh My God! That Was AWESOME!!! :D I love Maya 8.5 :D!!!

  • Awesome...I wish to learn maya but is where can I download the installer from?

  • Hello, this is awesome. Thank you. I have maya version 9, is this tutorial different from the new verion?

  • You've just save me from wasting $200 k dollars

(I don't need a certificate to show off my talent)

Thank you, I look forward to watching & learning from all of your tutorials.

  • please someones put english subtitle, i am deaf!

  • thank you you are so great!!:)

  • Well for about $1300 a pop, that CD better be able to do some super things...like... give birth to a baby or even give CPR if needed. Maya rocks XD

  • Holy...#$%! This is awesome!

  • hey great tutorials i have learnt everything that u have said but.... in order to do one or your projects the one thing that i will need that i do not know is how can i create an xtra vertex on a side of a shape so that i can munipulate it better i know that i can do it when i create the object but is there a way to create one afterwards???? this would be a big help : )

  • wow i really hope ur tutorials can help me. im new to maya and 3D stuff and i really am interested

so thank u for your work and wish me luck!!

    =]

  • Is maya much like 3DS Max? i can only download maya as i have a Macbook and 3DS Max is only available for windows. The reason i ask is that my uni uses 3DS max for projects, which i will be using next year. I just want to get a head start, so is it easy to transfer from maya to 3DS max?

  • i click'd on some icons and my maya munus desapear pls how can i get them back?

  • hold space to get the menu up

dont click yet keep holding space go to the left of the menu and click and hold another menu will appear.

these are the screen menus, selecting them either removes or adds them

  • I like this so must, very affective. I go to the Art Institute of atlanta, majoring in Media Arts and Animation. I want become a better animator while Im on my break before I go to intermediate modeling

  • this is great for my career, ill shwo u my works

  • Do you have playlists so it's easy to follow from tutorial to tutorial in order?

  • whats the name of the song in the beginning?:)

  • i have maya 8 will that make much of a differnt im new to the world of maya

  • Very good video!

I have been locking for somthing like this, Becuse i have no Idea how to use Maya 8.5.

  • Thank you so much for posting these! As a SCAD student, Motion Graphics artist, there isn't alot of coverage about this software. This will really help in my major. THANK YOU dear sir

  • Hi there pal, you can count me in, I will be following your links and hopefully I will be posting some work back.

this program was first introduced to me in 2003 in germany whilst I was completing my second year of my degree however I didnt get the chance to master it, currently I am doing a pgce in design technology and I think that this program has so much potential which is why I am giving it a blast.

keep the good work up I am sure me and many will follow

  • Wow! I didn't expect an actual beginner course for maya. I like where this is going. Most of the time, you have a few short unrelated tips and tricks videos but it's exciting to see an entire course available here. I hope you offer an advanced course soon.

  • The reason I hate education is because it's all, "You MUST do *this* project. You can't do THAT one because WE didn't SAY you could."

Education has the freedom of chains.

  • yep well unis different....

  • Thanks mate, I'm currently still in High School down here in Australia. Is it alright if I use Maya 2008 instead of 8.5 since I do not have access to the older versions?

  • It should be basically the same...we are in the process of switching over to 9.0 as well. Good luck.

  • much appreciated. I'm currently enrolled in Full Saill university , under computer animation. I have never touched maya before, but that's all the school really uses. So I'm doing my best to become at least experienced enough, to model what they ask for this month...

  • thank you very much for the tutorials, i am new to the world of maya, it is onlytwo weeks ago i started learning it by my own, I like yu tutorials

  • Great stuff, would just like to say thanks very much for doing this. It's definately a lot more "human" than other tuts!

Also studied at Hull Uni myself (MEng) from 1998 onwards! Stayed at 'The Lawns' student digs in Cottingham, before renting. Loved it! Best years of my life.

  • awesome, can't wait. The guy kinda sounds like Garry Busey when he stutters.

  • im learning too...but it's kinda tuff..but as Jack Sparrow would say:Never too late to learn mate..

  • thanks sir i am going to learn this software 3d i been learning 3dsmax but i think maya is more easy

i hope i can get response from u whenever i feel confuse

thank to ppl like u ppl like me da we cant go to college can learn from this software

  • if every university did this it could educate many people. Really good idea :D

  • ehm.. maybe a dumb question, but i was wondering: can Maya be used to make whole games? :)

  • I'm a beginner too, but no I don't think so. You can, however, import Maya models into programming (game coding) applications.

  • im using Autodesk Maya 2008, is it the same as 8.5? or generally...i dont wanna get off trakc. i really wanna get into this. sumone msg me about it please. a yes or no.

  • thanks i cant wait to learn this program..

  • Perfect idea, great for helping out alot of beginners like myself. :)

  • I do love the idea, I have known for a very long time that I do have a different style of learning as do many other people.. mine is what is commonly known as the Visual style of learning.

    Thanks you very much,

Its a god send!! for sure. Love it!

  • I think it is an awesome Idea and it is very effective! I wish everyone did this.

  • dude..you rock!!!!..you have earned my respect

  • wonderful, I really want to learn this and pursue it as a career. This helps, thank you.

  • are you and the class going to put some of their works or projects on line here at youtube cause that would be great to see what they creat with this program......Thanks

  • Check out the video responses in part 6/2.

  • Thanks for your hard work. I used to be intimidated by Maya but now I can see there are many alternatives to reading thousands of pages to try to undertand it. Additionally, I'm learning that the BEST of the best 3D designers/animators learned through hands on practice under supervision and guided instruction, NOT through reading. It's one of those few fields where cracking open an encyclopedia (or viewing endless technical chapter after endless technical chapter) is NOT the best way to learn.

  • I was just looking up Hull university on UCAS before for a CGI course before i stumbled into this.

I look forwart to taking part in this project an seeing if it can get me started in the world of computer animation.

  • Ill try to make some :p

When i've made some ill post them here.

Hopefully i'll understand it a little, because i'm from Belgium and my English in't verry good :d

    greets Mathias H

  • Finally thank you good man you are awesome you have won some internet points, and learning by myself reading text tutorials is boring but this technique is way better. Thank you!1

  • Very nice. I will watch your videos

  • Very Instructive so far. Let's hope the second video delivers what the first one promises.

  • Well I've been trolling around the internet looking at text tutorials and my mind boggled. Hopefully these videos of yours will work out for me. I might even make a video response at the end of it all. :)

  • gracias

  • thank you very much

  • This was exactlyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy what I was looking for - thanks!

  • I just downloaded the personal learning edition of Maya from their website and I was very disappointed that I had no clue how to do anything. These videos REALLY helped me A LOT!

  • kick ass vid dood it realy helped me thanks alot im really thanks

  • i am really interested in your programe....i will make sure to study and post to you what i have learn from you......

  • Awesome man!

  • dude thnx i realy needed this as i suck at Maya with my choice of tools being blender but i can see how versatile it really is and i am thnkfull that somebody has taken ther time to do something like this.

  • should i use maya 9.0 or 8.5 ? is there a big difference?

  • I haven't had a chance to play with 9.0 as we will be upgrading over the summer term. If the upgrade follows the usual pattern, the core elements will remain the same with the addition of some new tools and some streamlining of processes.

  • i totally love this idea. I wish i was in your class! My class teaching Maya is way too slow (high school). Hopefully after all these videos i can earn the credits early.

    thank you

  • hey i really need som help whit my maya, i just started use maya and have lookt at your videos alot, but when i create a animation how do i look at it and save it? keep up the good work!

  • THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!!!

  • Much, MUCH more effective than reading text and looking at pictures.

  • Hey sorry for the nub question but I accidentaly hid all of my tools, like the left hand side bar and all the tabs on the top.

How can I get them back up?

  • likewise... i know that it is somewhere in the tabs at the top. i cant find it again but il let ya no when i do

  • I got maya PLE. i can bareley hold my exitement

  • Great idea, i allways watch tutorials here on youtube, because is easer to see the examples than read them... my english is not that better but i will try to understand as much i can to learn how to use this program ^_^

  • Everything to do with maya costs money ! Free tutorials of this quality are amazing ! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

  • Thats because Maya is one of the top-end 3D graphics engines. If you want free, use Blender.

  • This is sweet, thanks for this!

  • YES this is nice b4 starting Animation next year. KEEP this up THNX

  • i like this!

  • Signed up to YouTube just to congratulate you on a super idea, great presentation and definitely a better way to learn.

  • KEREN, GREAT, MARVELLOUS!!

  • does PLE teaches u stuff? or its just like a demo version?

  • It's a fully featured demo version. Great to learn on but your files won't transfer to the real version and your rendered work is covered by a massive watermark. Excellent for trying out the programme.

  • Comment removed

I am currently learning maya, so i will keep track on these tutorials and participate in the tasks after , i think its great to get people interacting. Next september i will be goin to uni , aint sure which one to do a degree like the one you teach :) look forward to seeing more . Nathan

  • This is a great concept, Im about to learn Maya and I hope this will learn some basics.

  • I hope that these tutorials help you to learn the software. But remember, the software is only a tool. What's important is what you choose to do with this tool.
